jaymz
i'm sick of my esky reving so high at 100kph i was thinking about puting a 3.54 diff in but then i'ld lose to much bottom end speed so i thought it would be better to through a 5 speed in. What's the best box to put in and easyest to fit. cheers ps i have a mk2 1300 with a 1600 in it

Jerm
what do the 3.54 come in? what comes in the 1300 L and the 1600 auto and manual ghia?
trunk-rattlin
the 1300 l is a 3.89 and i think all/most 1600 (cars) where 3.54 and vans ver 4.111 dont take my word for it though
Jerm
i can get my hands on two 3.54s then and two 1600s so when i put the 1600 in my 1300l i should put the diff in too? the 1600 is out of a 1600 auto ghia
trunk-rattlin
ill buy a diff then. u have to make sure it is a 3,54 in that case!

Mr.Mk1
Anyone know what my diff's ratio is? Its out of a mk5 Cortina...
atropine
im pretty sure the only mk2s to get 3.54s were the 1600sport, rs1800,2000,mexico models.. maybe ghia.. dont quote me on that though..
Jerm
does anyone have the legend for all the codes that are on the plate under the bonnet.. that tells you your diff ratio i think.. and i thought it was in the haines manual but i can't seem to find it... i saw it somewhere thouigh i think it may have been ont his site
Draizuh
its on page 13 of my MK1 haynes manual A 3.777:1 also 9 B 4.125:1 also 4 C 4.444:1 also 4 D 3.900:1 aslo 2 those are Mk1's it should have one of those letters or numbers under axle. numbers are for heavy duty. Jerm
wait.. i don't understand.. if you want a higher top speed you would want a taller ratio diff wouldn't you? say a 4.4:1 ? because that mean every turn of the driveshaft the wheel does 4.4 rotations... why is everyone wanting 3.54s? which is the lowest.... which would make more power but lower top speed.... am i right? or just dumb? cheers Jerm
Guest WESTCORT
other way round mate, every 4.4 turns of the driveshaft = one turn of the wheel, so a 3.54 means the driveshaft doesnt have to turn as much for one full spin of the wheel as compared to a 3.89, therefore lower revs at 100kph, now jerm sell me that diff you have or ill come steal it in the night. peteretep
in my haynes manual it says all mk2 1600s had 3.545:1 but that is british so it may be different
