Not BMW lights as I belive they may be smaller in diameter? They are manufactured in the Uk by a company that specialises in Minis and Moggy Minors. The diameters are the same but you need to carefully clip off the pastic brakets moulded to the rear of the reflectors so they fit an Escort. You then just unscrew the retaining clips from your lights, remove the outer lamp rings, undo the multi plug and slot in the new ones. Also need to run a seperate wire from your side lights to the outer bulb but thats dead easy. Look smart tho i reckon??

I have heaps of contacts back in the UK that can supply new old stock and also remanufactured parts. Also heaps of tuning mods for all old school Fords. I will make a few enquiries first and then do soem reaserch at this end. Do you reckon there would be good interest then? I was thinking of first starting with say a 20 foot container load?? Also have to get myself GST registered so lots to look into first??

I bring stuff in regularly from overseas, just for personal use. Too much hassle to get someone here to get it in and then add their mark-up.

If someone in NZ offered parts at a small mark-up only I'd be keen. I don't mind paying a little more to buy from NZ but I've seen mark-ups up to 100% - just not on. It must be difficult when you're a business though. You then have to deal with all the customs charges, GST, taxes and various other crap before you can even offer something for sale. Hard to make a buck when someone can go overseas and get it in cheaper by doing it privately...

As much as I want to support local enterprise, I still want value for my dollar. If I don't get what I want I've no problems going elsewhere.

Perhaps if you set up an importing business rather than a local store? Rather than having stock here you could take all the hassle out of the overseas purhasing side by working as a parts finder/importer. People could go to you looking for various parts/accessories and you could bring in shipments monthly to accomodate the requests and save freight? Using several steady suppliers would give you a stable price listing (using burton or rally design as examples) as well as a catalogue your customers could browse through.

Working from your garage mainly over the net would cut overheads drastically - and as far as advertising goes it's hard to beat word of mouth from happy customers.

Your head is obviously screwed on right after looking at the cars you've built - maybe a fitting/modifying service could be offered?

Just my 2 cents worth...

Jinx, good points there mate. It would not be a big buisness but just a side line so I would not be looking to make big bucks anyway. the contact idea would make it easier to get started also, that way I would know what to order up front and not be sat on stock. With regard to fitting and modding, I hardly have time to finish my own cars!! But I know folks that can??

I will give it some serious thought and get back to folks later, need more time to get settled first. But its on the cards alright!

I dont have any at all, its in a Mk1 my mate just bought. But the seller wants the engine back for his racer. Looks like I should have filled my countainer up more before I left the UK! 1600 crossflows are ten a penny over there, heaps of them in XR2's and the like.
