  1. G'day All, Figured I may as well make a little project log thingy for my newest project, a '62 Morris Mini Minor. I picked this thing up not too long ago and have been getting stuck in with ambitions to have it done early next year. I've been on the hunt for a MK1 for ages now so I'm super stoked to get into it. The car had been stripped down and semi-restored some 20 years ago by the previous owner, but never quite finished. This has led to the paint deteriorating, and heaps of parts disappearing over time. This prompted me to buy a '62 parts car from some guys lawn for its engine/interior bits/suspension parts. I've got almost all of the parts for it now! Its just a matter of painting it and getting it back together and on the road again As far as plans go I'm still not totally sure what color id like it to be. Wheels can be changed to suit, but I guess paint's a different story. Was thinking something along the lines of a light metallic blue with an old English white roof, wide steels/mags and a mesh sun visor for that retro mod kinda look. Something that could be taken back to original spec if need be. Was even thinking of doing it black or just standard white, but I'm not too sure. Cheers guys, looking forward to getting more involved on the forum. -Jack. -The 850cc engine in the front end of the less than fortunate parts car. 25 years of sitting on a lawn didn't stop it from running - it fired right up the day after it fell out of the van and onto the driveway. Wasn't seized, and has only done 40,000 miles. Just hoping that the 850 will be enough for me to keep up with traffic!
  2. The Dream started in 2001, a need for speed, something crazy and unique. Something Oldschool! I had cut my teeth with lots of escort previously, the 2l pinto motor just didn't have the power I wanted. My first choice was a cosworth engine, but I needed both kidney to drink beer with, so that wasn't an option At the time the sr20det wasn't that popular engine, drifting wasn't around. i m manged to track down a complete engine, g/box and loom for 2k. mrmk1 was getting a new heart transplant! More Power Required Big Diff and Rear Disc Brakes. - Shorten 7.5inch F series toyota crown diff, 3.9 Ma61 supra LSD Custom Fueling and tank by Herbert's Fabrication Roll cage was fabricated by Jono Climo.. the master craftsman!
  3. This time last year while overseas this triumph popped up for sale in the middle of richmond, luckily no one else seemed to be interested in it (must mean something) and i managed to get the guy to wait till I got back and could check it out. Went and saw it, was pretty tidy, rust free, straight and complete with the 2L manual overdrive. Downside, plates had lapsed after the motor supposedly seized and he stopped driving it. I didn't even bother checking the engine due to having some at home, and came back the next day with my trailer, Left quite quick before he could decide he sold it too cheap and on the way home passed a mates house and we decided to try start it. Appeared to turn over quite freely, and with some fuel i managed to get it running, but didn't run all that well. no brakes or clutch, and sounded pretty sad. Took it home as you do, put it in the garage and not much has happened since, would ideally like to drop a 2.5S engine i have from mk2 in it and get it back on the road looking original
  4. Discussion here - //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/49350-brend0nzs-1969-ford-escort-mk1-coupe-discussion/ Hey Guys and Gals! Im a 21 year old Diesel mechanic apprentice. Originally from Nelson but now living in Wellington. So I finally got around to getting my esky off the road and can now begin working on it to get it mint! I bought this car 2 years ago off a guy in the Wairarapa. Im from Nelson so he drove it over the Rimitakas and i met him at the airport, then i ferried it back to Nelson.. I had only owned this car for around 5 hours and i already had a list of mechanical faults that needed mending. Over the hill it blew a huge hole in the headers and was making a hell of a racket. The points decided to seize shut after i turned it off to board the ferry. Half way home from Picton the alternator stopped charging which left me stranded in the dark at 12am in the morning in the midde of nowhere. Safe to say i was introduced to owning a old school car the hard way, anyways my faith in the esky lived on. 1600xflow Mild cam Unsure of carb size, its off a 2l pinto tho i have been told Good set of flows 0.002" oversize pistons Has had some head work, unsure exactly what 4 Speed box 4.4:1 diff First pic is the day morning after i got it back to Nelson, Below are the pics of its condition when i begun.
  5. this is how i got it, i did some work on it for the old owner a couple of years ago and have finally talked him into selling it, going to change the front back to a escort round lght Discussion Thread //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/23879-esky-73-new-toy-mk1-escort/?hl=esky
  6. Just thought Id share a couple of pics of my sisters freshly restored mk1 escort. Been on the build for 3 or so years and is now finished and on the road. I did the panel and paint for her ( good ol' big brother eh ) and runs a 1600, weber, headers, cam etc. Everything is either brand new or reconditioned. Owes her a fair bit but well worth it I say. She chose the colour Wild Plum since she saw my xa gt and loved the colour and her escort had to be painted that colour. Cheers, Brendon

  9. Hello everybody, writing from SENEGAL in west africa. I have just found in an automobile breakage this escort MK1 4 doors. Each one has its project and me for the fun of it I will try to remake it to roll with any means I have . All the difficulty in this rebuilt will be the lack of parts for this car. As much in Europe or anywhere else it is easy, here in senegal that will be real struggle at least impossible. Then do not be suprised to see certain things which will occur during this restoration... occurs what will be able...

  15. This is my fourth Escort, which I guess isn't bad for 16. I currently own 3 MK1's, this is the new road car. I also have a 4AGZE powered show car in the making, and an ex-rally car. I bought it engineless from a member at hot-escort.net, with plans to put the motor out of my rally car into it. (specs below) Honestly I don't know what's going to happen to this car in the long term, right now I just want to get it on the road so I can go cruising, then I'll worry about everything else. As is now "Kermit" Green Paint 15x7 Sapphire Cosworth Rims Alpine Stereo System Custom Interior Sports Exhaust Celica 5 Speed Gearbox Alloy Rollcage Clear Lenses Current Plan 15x7" Performance Superlites. Worked Pinto with twin 45's. Few little touch ups. Put "ESKIE" numberplates on. Get it out cruising![ )] Engine Balanced 2lt pinto. Vernier cam. GP1 valves. Twin 45 Webers. Double valve springs. Bored 30thou over. Anyway here's a couple of pictures as is, I'll take some better ones once the engine goes in and I can give it a good clean. It's got a custom boot install too, which I will try and get around to posting pictures of. Thanks for checking it out, Blake.
  16. Bit of history - I brought her off a really good mate of mine who owned her for the last 10 years, in that time shes been used as a daily drive up until about 3 years ago where she ended up sitting at his mothers place in paraparaumu exposed to the weather etc, shortly after that all the rust was removed and repaired on the exterior, then she went to Taranaki with him where he didnt have the time to finish what he started. Rather then see some young 17 yr old get their hands on her, put an 8 in it & wrap it around a lamp post I decided to purchase her myself and give her the much loved TLC the old girl deserves. The Start Progress So Far Front struts totally rebuilt, new KYB shocks, new King springs & new DBA vented & slotted front disc rotors (no point in going fast if ya cant stop), struts have been sand blasted & re-sprayed black to match the rest of her. Calipers are currently being over hauled & should be back on in the next 6 weeks or so. A semi large hole has been cut out of the drivers side foot well where some rust was found, currently fabricating the replacement for this & should be in pretty soon. Re-built front shocks (G/box in pic was going to be used but have decided to go with a Supra box) Both the left & right side front inner guards have been sandblasted back to bare metal & rust treated in preparation for being painted black. Diff was removed & dis-assembled, discovered that the pinion gear is cracked so am in the process of sourcing a replacement, will be going with a Hilux 2WD LSD Existing Diff with a few extra shiney bits Original 4spd box will be replaced with a 5spd supra box for added toughness and reliability. In terms of the engine itself the only real change there will be the replacement of the old points dizzy with an electronic one, rocker covers & mounts have been sandblasted & painted, still have the air filter housing & cover to do. So as you can see its getting a lot of TLC, once the mechanicals etc have been sorted it'll be time to start on the body itself, which as a result of a lot of hard work over a weekend before my mate took her to Taranaki, should go pretty smoothly, she'll be rubbed back, primed & painted in black with the original chrome going back on. In terms of the interior there’s not much to be done there, a bit of a touch up here and there along with new Kenwood audio, alarm with a internal screamer in the cabin and replacement of the original front seats with a set of after market reclineables, purley for the fact that i want something a with bit more shoulder & head support for longer trips etc & and possible manfield days latter on down the track. Once back on the road she will be sitting a new set of ROH 17" alloys, which will be done as a special run for me in aussie as I found out that the alloy I want is no longer brought into New Zealand Once all is done she will hopefully look like this Forgot to mention, she's the Fist V6 MK1 Capri to land on our shores even have the original paperwork from day one when she was registered
