  1. Haha it's got a v8 ratio rear diff in it (3.08) so coupled with the auto it actually really struggles
  2. This is true, and to be honest I change my mind every 5 minutes, I think either way, turbo 6 or v8 I'm gonna have a lot of fun with this car. For now it's mainly parts collecting, at least until after baby has come along an wifey is back at work earning some $$
  3. Cheers guys, I appreciate all the info/suggestions and comments I'm not a die hard Holden fan (I just love all cars) As for stroking a 304, it's not necessarily what I intend to do, mearly in idea, I'm mechanic by trade so have hookups with machining etc, Turbo'ing it is also something I've considered, however main goal will be getting one in an going first. A 308 hasn't been completely ruled out but it's really at the bottom of the list A 1uz is an awesome engine but it's not for this car,
  4. Cheers for the feedback, Yeah if I go turbo I'll stick to a single cam setup, not chasing huge power just enough to do some "sweet skids bro" however I'm leaning more towards a dirty v8 I think at the end of the day if I was chasing big power then an LS1 would be the way to go, but like I said I'm not chasing huge power, and I think a 304 with a nice cam will fit my needs/budget (plus later on if I feel the need for more oomph I can stroke it to 355cui) Plus in my personal opinion a 304 is a way better sounding engine,
  5. So about a year ago I went crazy and bought a brand new dirtbike which meant I had to sell my 65 Coon wagon, sad days.... however I've missed having an old cruiser to play with and go cruising in, so I've recently bought myself another toy, not quite as old as the last one, and somewhat much more bogan, its a 1987 VL commodore Royale with a dirty rb30e and auto, previous owners have put a Calais front on it, a Group A front bumper, bonnet scoop and rear spoiler, 18's, lowered it and fitted an adjustable panhard rod Sorry for crappy Iphone pics, so my mates have been putting the pressure on the slap a turbo on and do skids, however the bogan inside has been saying it needs a V8, so still got a bit of a decision in that dept, if i go V8 I want to go for an injected 304 and t5 manual, I Currently have been getting the parts required to convert to manual, so far I have pedal box, d/shaft, clutch fork, shifter, manual x-member, have a gearbox lined up as my mate is currently going to an RB25det box in his VL, so I'm gonna get his old 30e manual box, progress isn't going to be the fastest as wifey is somewhat pregnant, so baby stuff is main priority at the moment, and before I worry about making it faster i want to look at upgrading a few other things, anyone who had driven a VL will know how awesome the brakes aren't, so plans are for some 290mm front rotors, and FC RX7 4 pots, rears at this point in time will just get some new shoes and cylinders. I also want to upgrade the suspension bushes as there is a fair amount of slop in the rear end (you can feel the arse end steer with the throttle) Any way thanks for reading this novel, feel free to give any input/criticism/ideas etc Cheers Ben

  15. Sooo boring picture less update, So New Year's Day I took the car for a drive with my mate and his HT kingswood, car was going good, we pulled over and stopped for a while, when I restarted the old girl the GEN light remained on. So drove home and ripped the generator out, and stripped it down. Found a broken brush, sourced a new set of brushes cleaned the commuter up, took it to work an painted everything and then slapped it together. Threw it in the car this morning and hey presto no more GEN light when she's running Total cost of repair $5!! God I love old cars!!!
  16. Looking good man, how much lower did you go all round in the end! Looks similar wheel to gaurd heights as my wagon, what size wheel/tyres you running
  17. Nah the belts fine, i checked all the connections etc on the side of the road, but there is a fault with either the generator or regulator!!
  18. Well today for the first time in over a year of ownership, I had a brake down, nothing major but, stopped in mission bay (after queing forever to get in) everything was mint, then when we went to leave i started the car and the GEN light remained on, So i drove it home to Tuakau so i could have a look and typically the only tool i didnt bring home from work is my multimeter, so will have to do a bit of investigating as to wether its the generator or the regulator? and then i really need to decide if stick with the generator of if i convert to an alternator??
  19. Looking good Liam, looking forward to seeing it back an it's feet!
  20. Sweet man cheers for the info on the drop! Yeah I've got an old school panelbeater mate who has used the same brake setup in a mustang an said it work f'in awesome so fingers crossed it all works!
  21. yeah ive been watching your build on AFF, looks like a bloody cool ride!!! im definatly keen to make some shelby drop templates, am planning on running XF hubs and brakes, and will jsut get the rear diff redrilled to match, then a booster and master cyclinder from a toyota previa (apparently this should fit without having to cut the strut brace/inner gaurds etc)
  22. thread revival..... see i told you it would be a slow going project so sunday weather was shitty, so I decided I needed to do something in the shed, i figured it was time to start tidying up the engine bay, so I set to removing the rocker cover so i can clean it up and repaint it, am planning on a similar shade of blue to the interior (which is what im planning on doing my wheels aswell) So off came the rocker cover, and i thought why not check the valve clearances......... so out came the workshop manual only to find zero clearance on all cylinders, so off came the ht leads, out came the spark plugs, so i set all valve clearances, will take plugs to work tomorow and give them a clean up (along with my seemingly forgotten rocker cover now) then ill re-assemble, check and set the timing, and try to tune the carb the best i can, and see how it goes, After Xmas whern $$ free up a bit then ill start on the brake upgrade Discuss 'ere: //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/32061-bens-xp-coooner/page__st__20 chur
