  1. Waiting on brake bits ive got the drivers scuttle up to here All solid now - I made the scuttle from about 4 bits due to the compound curves and lack of stretcher, also remade a couple of the screen trim holders. There are a few sections in the A-Pillar too, but i didnt have a camera on hand while sorting them out. *-*-*-* Then Pistons for the rear brakes turned up For future reference package listed Triumph Dolomite, Morris Oxford/Farina (fronts) as well as the seller listeing them for FIAT 1500S/2300 etc. All new parts excepting the handbrake pads which ill sort out later (400 euros!!!), reassembled them with the rubbers kit i go before, new flexi line, bled up and fitted (* hard line joining the two halves is installed incorrectly in these pics - it crosses over with the port the bleeder is in so it doesnt rub on the rim ) And then stole the battery from the 125, fired up off a can of gas in the dash, and fairly uneventfully, drove it down the driveway, up to the end of the cul-de-sac and back into the shed like it aint no thing. No vids or anything unfortunately, but some neighbours up the road just about got themselves run over to come ask if it was a Super Minx Ill fix the roof rust first then I need to start thinking about chopping bits off the parts car to finsh this side which is the bad one.
  2. had burger so called "king" on the way home from town last night - keen for some proper burgers to reset my bun-based fast-casual palate. (didn't stop me smashing that shit right in my drunkey facehole tho!)
  3. was gonna say fuel pump issues too had similar issues on my 125, (fuel bowl in the malpassi regulator emptying) - swapped in a new mechanical pump & done. Im running sideys now too and ive added a small (low pressure) Facet pump by the tank as well which seems to have done no harm - certainly makes it easier to start if its been sitting for a while. while you are there what about adding a drain back valve to stop the issue SOCH noted?
  4. Rustis ize have seen some shit man. also holy fuck that car well done you crazy diamond. +1 on skin blistering heat yesterday I couldnt handle it. At home playing with my new stuffs today
  5. here (ish)?: https://www.google.co.nz/maps/place/36%C2%B046'58.4%22S+174%C2%B033'24.3%22E/@-36.7828878,174.5556477,368m/data=!3m2!1e3!4b1!4m2!3m1!1s0x0:0x0
  6. my brake bits have been dribbling in from around the world, and i can now assemble the front brake calipers. Calipers are cast with FIAT/Girling and are also used on Dinos and Panteras and some other super expensive and rare cars, but also including (thankfully) old volvos (amazons and P1800s), which have a large aftermarket suppy, so are also avalaible new, all from Skandix.de (reccomended) Gulp. pads are fairly easy to come by, as used on only the finest british tat, these were only $9 on rock auto New cylinders in - fitting the rubbers is a bit of a trick! Read to bolt back on with new soft lines Just waiting on an ebay purchase for the rear cylinders, and some handbrake hardware and the rears will get the same treatment (will see about the rear pads being reshoed at a later date) and once installed i can drive it out and turn it around to get at the drivers side rust - untill then ive kinda run out of things to do.
  7. saturday morning will be too late for swaps! when we used to borrow the mrs boss coffee cart and make neds, dudes would be there from wednesday and swap the good shit amonst themselves then sell all the other shit to the 'townies' on saturday. Still roll out on sunday with huge overloaded trailer loads of stuff tho, i dunno how they CBF to do it. (ps see you saturday morning for swaps and maybe friday for beersies!)
  8. You can drag logs home from the paddock to split at your leisure
  9. Bled the clutch up, took a day to gravity feed the lines full again. Also faffed around for aaaaaaaaages getting the gear linakges connected including cutting and bending them so the dont bind on themselves (both sets i have, have witness marks so it cant just be me!). Parts car comes through with the goods again, with a radiator. Its not perfect but at least the bottom tank is whole. Polished the top which is so shiny its blown out this piccy Also got a lace up steering wheel cover for christmas Started swapping over the column switches, they are a weak design and the levers break out at the base - 65Fiat kindly let me have one of his spares. - the eboxy glue doesnt stick very well and it catches on the wheel, so may try fibreglass (PE) or making a metal ring of sorts like the later model ones have to spread the load better around the switch im gonna need to replicate that somehow - Anyway, set the timing, filled the carbs with some go juice and put the exhaust back on (well just to the 2 into 1 section by the gbox ): Pretty close to driving this out of the garage under its own steam! Wont be going far till i get the break calipers re-sealed tho.
  10. went to OS Drags on saturday, great fun day with plently of variety, and shits and giggles. pics talkies (^pic shamlessly stolen from Niswhale who posted it in the Dragday pics thread ) car ran well, shaved 0.7s off last years times, and was very consistent. Made it to the third round of DYO, but was pipped by Veggie who eventually won - again!
  11. Sunday after Drag Day I set the tappets, installed the clutch and swung the engine back in the hole Hellloooww Strill have to get teh gear box in - Do you even lift Bro? Friends? -+-+-+- Just hefted the gear box in, went pretty well with a jack and two small furniture trolleys, and all my socket extensions, just the fiddly bits like linkages and stuff to hook up now. So thats the front 2/3rds of the running gear sorted, and half the rust. Just brakes, diff, and the rest of the rust to go, but that means chopping up the parts wagon, which means having a running van to store and move the bits which means rust repairs on the van, which ill do over the christmas break ahhhg bloody cars.
  12. Went up to Waihi on an OS cruise for Pizza, and then snuck off out to Te Arai for a surprisingly good surf. Car went quite well, which is good becasue OS Drag Day coming up on December 12. i also took this on the way back from Te Arai to Muriwai, SH16 between Wellsford and Kaukapakapa, then Peak Road to Waimauku is a great drive! Unfortunately is after the really nice twistly bits but cars running well - Camer is jammed in the headrest so the mic is a bit muffled, so turn it up.
  13. Aaand today, a bit more progress on the rust, BEGONE! BAM! I actually did cut and weld that but forget to take any more picks till I'd finished So thats the whole passenger side done as far as rust/metal work goes. *** Thought i would pull the clutch master from the spares car to see if i could cannibalise any bits from it to take to the brake shop with the calipers - it wasnt looking good in the car all oxidised and rustly looking but once i got it off : KAPOW! Oh yeah! It has previously/recently been resleeved with a nice brass sleeve and was not even seized at all The parts car has just paid for itself twice over, and after a clean and reassesmble, the pedal box is all completed. Car is also on the ground and awaiting some more weight in the front. Im just waiting on some o-rings (or valve stem 'seals') to reassemble the head and put it on the block before i lift it back in.
  14. 28 NOVEMBER Part II and finally, big Thanks to AA_LAWS who i pony-expressed some parts for when i went to welly came and popped the windscreen out for me the other day. Pretty happy with what we found under there, other than the two patches i knew about in each lower corner, the surround is great - even the trim clip holders are in excellent condtion! Upper Lower Drivers As first seen Drivers after a clean up and an intial coat of pimer Passengers As revealed and ready for the chop
  15. NOVEMBER 28 Part II also been receiving some enginey bits as well - you can see the Regina-Extra timing chain and some more gaskets in the piccy above. I have ended up pulling the head off because of a sticky valve, which i should have done anyway: it was for the best - as usual everything was pretty grebbed up, but in pretty good nick underneath couple of the exhast valves could probably do with replacement but they lapped up ok and the seats are very good. I also opened up the exhaust ports a bit where they exit the head just so they transition to the much bigger manifold a bit better. The inlets were already a good match, so i just smoothed the roughest bits. Also got a box of 6 Purolator filters for $US1.49 each from Rockauto runout - the shipping was more expensive! Intalled the new Regina timing chain with the new pulleys from the kit, crank shaft seals and sump gaskets today, so bottom end is back together, just waiting on some valve stem 'seals' to put the head back together and drop the engine back in the hole (after swapping the pilot bearing).
  16. NOVEMBER 28th Ive had quite a few packages turn up lately, so have been picking away at stuff as i can when bits turn up. I have not had 100% success tho So I have about 3 things on the go at a time and my shed is too small for that! the 850 upper wishbone bushes dont fit - the OD of the 2300 pivot shaft is 17mm, not the 14mm of the smaller cars. Everything else is the right size oh well, i will worry about sourcing those later - i need a press/puller to remove the old ones anyway. Also a 1500 clutch cylinder (was v cheap on ebay) but it doesnt fit - its too long to fit between the firewall and booster, so i will take the original cylinder (and the other bung one on the parts car) into Sterling Brakes with the calipers when the rubber kits for the brakes from ebay (rear) and skandix.de (fronts) turn up. Lada tie rod ends (only one lemforder ) and Ferodo brake pads from rockauto. Also some ball joint boots - just waiting for some tie wire and i have some new tie rod clamps and some steering idler bushes coming from Ladapower so when all that arrives ill put the car back on the ground.
  17. NOVEMBER 17th Received a package today as well - mostly clutch stuff (pilot bearing, release bearing and flex plate - 205mm like the 124/125 but 10 spline) so tidied the original up like most of the mechanical parts on this car it looked like crap untill the greasy smeg is cleeaned off and it came up really good: I will slap that in and call it done.
  18. Woops - I havnt been updating this: NOVEMBER 16th Front shocks - these are the 124 KYBs from the 125 that i retired for new Koni yellows. They are not going to waste. Other than not being so HUGE in girth they are otherwise as good a fit as i could have hoped for Slightly shorter at full extension (CHECK) Slightly shorter at max compression (CHECK (also they dont stay compressed!, CHECK)) The will also bolt up (after some minor work with the cut off wheel, but that hardly counts) CHECK
  19. Keen, just put the sensible racks on and the mal on the roof will see yous at C&C for a 10.30 departure. Surf is gonna be better after lunch. That If i can still swim. mmm pizza.
  20. supposed to be sunny on sunday also east coast surf - may meet youze at Waipu for pizza after an early somewhere (instead of goint to C&C) and just do the cruise back
  21. semi related, thinking of spraying instead of brushing on sound deadening and stuff = big tips yeah? These cheap guns come with a 1-2mm tip im guessing need to find Ragtops 4mm unicorn version (gont want to run that stuff though my 'paint' guns nor do i want to spend neds on a single use item.
  22. yeah, you are sick, but also awesome. ive got nothing more to add other than this sayittentimesfast how many one wheel peels could sicko neal deal if morries could squeel wheels?
  23. pulled the front end out to give it a clean up, the total loss oiling system has kept the parts under this grim in good nick, but its so gross. boots on the ball joints are unfortunately split, (putting good thick coating of dry grease on EVERYTHING but they feel like they are in good order. I will worry about them later, they may be able to be re-booted. Cut the blind splines in the torsion bars to lower the front - FIAT has helpfully done 2/3 of it already about 20 seconds of being very careful with the cut off wheel in the grinder later not exactly machined, but they slotted in one spline lower first time The battery on my camera ran out but I got one shot of all the front end tidied up and ready to go back in: Ive installed most of that it back in pending a few parts still to arrive. EDIT: ReInstalled front suspension - note the split ball joint boots :/ Looking forward to getting it back on its wheels
