  1. Primer #2 is done. Ordered some colour, hope to get the jams etc sprayed by the end of the week.
  2. Still plodding on this, bodywork progress doesnt make exciting piccies. Everything rubbed down And our first coat of primer, alot of sanding to follow. Did I mention this is my first attempt at a full body respray, and first go using 2K? Its new to all of us
  3. Many thanks, I figure this would be the case. Wasnt terribly fussed on using them, onto TM they go....
  4. Just a quickie. More filler work this week, should be able to shoot the primer in a few days. I came across another boo boo, this panel has a very slight sweep back to the wheelarch but someone has done a bit off repair in the lower corner (probably just burried the mig in it) and distorted the panel. Only way to fix is to cut it again to relieve the stress on it. A few mm makes a massive difference here... Also, cue artsy shot....
  5. I have some questions about mini suspension.... Amoungst the parts I've aquired this includes a set of aftermarket adjustable set of lower arms and tierod, std they never had this sort of adjustment. Will this sort of thing need cert? Also, the rideheight is set by the length of the alloy suspension cones, cutting these down equals more low, any issues here as long at it is all kept captive?
  6. Ok so I bought just one more.... (was too cheap to pass up....) This is best described as rust held together by paint A lone fern had been able to propogate itself in the back seat. It does however have the subframe in it which I need, plus a rear bumper and a handful of other parts. The running gear might be marginally better to rebuild than the yellow one also. A bonus was finding this 1970s accessory goodness - clip on headrest Work on the green shell continues, time for filler and I have a kit of 2k primer ready to go
  7. I'm on the hunt for some bumpers and the window latches for a mk1/2 if anyone knows of a source....
  8. Bit more work done. Lower skin is complete, got to use a new set of toys The lower part of the frame also needed a new section, made this with my folder and via clamping it to my bench with some RHS and folding it over. The corner of this boot has been given a bit of a shunt and was full of bog, was able to pull it out a bit so it wasnt too bad, kind of difficult as you cant get to the back of the panel... welded up those extra holes too The removable panels are now done, have a bit of work to do on the body including a patch for the tunnel. I see a couple of other patches in this area from previous work - assume to be part of mating a honda drivetrain (which is what this was previously set up as, not sure how much more work will be needed to return it back to std.
  9. Spanner in the works, lil bit more rust than I anticipated, the drivers lower door skin needs replaced... No matter, it means I can get onto another project I've been wanting to do for a while (and makes for better content...) So, taking advantage of an old rib pulley I made a tipping die. And a roller skate wheel makes the other half.... This allows me to know tip an edge round a corner, I use a shrinker round the corner to gather up the excess metal. I had to also do some 'tucks' to shrink the area even more as it is quite a tight curve around the lower edge of these doors. This is me doing it on a practise panel first. I'm about half way through the real panel, need to turn a joddle on it and tig it in but is working out ok so far
  10. Handful of jobs done this week.... Small spot of rust in the boot that needed a wee patch. One of the previous owners had done a patch in the spare wheel well but only stich/spot welded it in, couldn't deal with it so went round the whole thing. A new battery box has been made for it also, its ok but a tad on the rough side. Debating if I drill the spot welds on the one out of the yellow car (its good in that area for some reason...) and repair it back to factory.... Pulled the doors, they will need some slight work arround the hinge bolts etc. Floor pan has had a bash, needs some work. Probably another week worth of work and then I can sand the lot back ready for paint.
  11. And now the front is reconnected.... amazed I still know how to TIG There are a few minor spots to deal with the body but this is a big step
  12. I need to pull whatever is in this yellow one and take a look. Probably its a 998. Aim is for a budget build but i will have a play with the head/cam
  13. No problem, I think the wrecker in Kaitangata has a few. If you organise it with him I could probably go get it. Probably heaps at Preston St in Invercargill but they might be just as far gone....
  14. Certainly is, but the roof channel is pretty average. Will take some photos tonight and post them to see if you are still interested.
  15. Cheers, more luck than anything.... Its probably pretty good.... With the way this thing has rusted its been sitting under trees with its nose to the sea. Want me to cut out a portion?
  16. So I'm still rolling around here... I still have an A35 in the shed and my AE92 GT which needs work one day (plus other things, but really need a decent sized workshop to do it) but I was browsing TM one evening and saw a mini shell for CHEAP which I thought could be a good basis for a project. I've always liked the early minis, so it was chance more than anything as to why I ended up with this one. Now the reason it was cheap is that someone had cut the front of it off (very cleanly though) to make a flip front. Other than that the shell had virtually no rust, is very clean and has been dry stored since the early 90s.... A quick trip up to Cantebury and it was home.... It came with enough bits to make it a roller but very little else. Luck would have it that a very rusty (but mostly complete) one turned up locally on TM a week later, so I made it mine also. So I'm about halfway through aligning this front end to TIG back on..... Plan is to give it a quick scotch n' spray in the British Racing Green it has on it, then start transfering the bits from the yellow and rebuilding along the way. Should be fun, feels great to get into another project like this one.
  17. Yes I have got one of the older models (was ex demo). Its been a great unit for doing panel work and light fab. I tend to use my Tig more now that I have one.
  18. I hate repairing rusty drip trays, I don't envy you. Recken you can get it welded up without warping the roof?
  19. Called Toyota yet to see if they are still available? NB I recken I need to start hording AE92 bits
  20. Black POR15, put it on with a brush and it comes up satin/gloss. It 'dries' via reaction with moisture so consider everything it touches (i.e. paint brush) a consumable.
  21. Reason prevails... +1 for the opinion they are crap. Have personally had one which only after ~400km of driving the springs obviously started to stretch, caused the engine to ping when at constant revs....
