  1. Exactly what I mean. PD supercharger kinda acts like n/a also
  2. Yeah figured as much re. The brake cable. It's not much of a major to get the cable on the outside. 1 step closer 2 steps back ect ect
  3. So turns out megasquirt can rescale the map if you decide you want to move the bin divisions around! i never noticed this button and once youve made your changes seems to work great! will have to figure out how i want it layed out now. currently its all just even. and as you can see above. runs all the way out to 8000! as if my engine is gonna pull that. id put off rescaling it cause i thought it would be a massive manual task. any suggestions for how the map (y) axis should be arranged? supercharged engine which will run out to 0.5 bar eventually
  4. good work! i forsee win in your future. just dont visit tauranga
  5. reeeeeeaaaaalllllyyy?? cool ill have to have a play. havnt noticed it rescale before
  6. Here's a question. Your comment on cell devisions reminded me that I had originally set up all the devisions square, and like you say now I'd prefer to have them tailors a bit more. Is there a way to change the divisions that also moves your current map around, or is it a case of having to do it all manually and somewhat re tune?
  7. I mean come on.. Ring lands blow because the engine is running too much boost for the ring gap. The rings expand due to the extra heat, the gap closes up and the ring has nowhere to go but up, therefor breaking the piston. My car is only on 3psi of boost untill I take the engine appart to specifically open the ring gap for this exact reason. I'm guessing your mate chucked 15-20 psi at an otherwise stock motor? Mx5 engines are pretty stout and will take that, but I'd always be looking at opening the ring gap for boost
  8. What was the actual failure? Because anyone could program any ecu, or build an engine with an error and cause a failure.
  9. I guess that echos a conversation that was had last night amongst some friends. If you don't know anything about tuning, don't want to learn, don't have the time or simply don't care and just want to pay some money and get a running car asap then great, link/haltech/etc/etc have you covered But That doesn't mean that every car with any variant of megasquirt is going to suffer a failure. If link offered their ecus in kitset you'd see similar issues. That said I know the early gen megasquirt (like I'm running) are significantcantly older tech and you do have to take some further precautions to look after the ecu. There are more than a few success stories even just here on oldschool, it's just people comparing a link g4+ to a megasquirt 1 which pisses me and alot of others off.
  10. Right. Let's quash this right here. There is a dude on mx5 pages who is very vocal about megasquirts on mx5s. His name is Daniel heaphy, he may be on there, I don't care id say all this to his face. He bashes on megasquirt like you wouldn't belive, yet has never owned one. Just read stories online and 'has mates who blew up their engine cause of megasquirt' He speels off all this bullshit and then when the large amout of mx5 megasquirt runners and supporters steam roll his arguments he deletes the threads cause he's a moderator. He does this all while running 272 cams on a stock ecu/engine. He's not a smart man.
  11. Can I have my hand brake cable running through the driveshaft hoop? As it sits it naturally goes through the hoop. I assume this is a no no, but before I go and modify other things to move the cable I figured I'd ask the question
  12. Excuse the messy interior. Porche seats are going back in and I'm trying to track down a classic style centre console. I was going to go for a race inspired interior with bucked seats ect, but turns out that makes it horrid to drive.
  13. Got a few items back from a friend in the airforce. Reupholstered the rear seat back rest and wrapped the factory steering wheel. One day I'll probably do a version two of the wheel with some extra padding wrapped around the wheel to make it thicker, but I like it very much.
  14. Leather straps for sure, And I love the screen, it's exactly what I want for mine
  15. surely isnt much different to a 4 stroke? not sure how an 02 sensor would work with oil smoke in the exhuast though?
  16. yep sorted that back when i got the new wheels 14x6.5 and 185/55 or 60 tires. i forget what i went with but both are legal
  17. awesome. thats nice and clear cut. i heard somewhere old crossply tires needed positive camber to work? i dont understand how tires work to that level, but can see as tire tech advanced aligments changed.
  18. ill of course double check with the local man, but sounds good to me. possibly more a question for @CUL8R as hes in the industry, but after reading up on the link posted above RE. camber, it states no more than 0.5* more neg camber than stock. how do we go about wheel alignment specs for old cars. are the specs for my 71 corona likley to be available? ive never seen anything online and i dont think any of my haynes type manuals have that info. camber is easy to change on my car with a shim system, its probably got too much camber in the front as i fucked around with it years ago, performed well on track the other day though, rear not so much skip skip. but ill let a professional tell me its wrong before i/they fix it.
  19. ideal. will most likely put it through a pre check, and sounds like it may be requested anyway. as im a big fan of making things cheaper. another question for the cert man, but ill ask it here too. is it acceptable to fit a driveshaft hoop, and take photos of it correctly fastened under the carpet and then put the interior back in for cert? edit - the wheels on the car and suspension height are exactly how i want. i think i worded it badly before. have nailed down the look and feel i want before cert so i dont run into issues down the track. but the 13s with low pro tires were far too low, 65-70mm smashed everything on the road. looked cool but i dont want to ruin my car.
  20. im 99% sure the car is around 105mm, i purposly changed to 14" rims and tires to suit being a legal ride height to minimise issues, but will check tomorrow. it does probably need an alignment but hoping to do it after cert when i can drive it into town a bit more stress free
  21. hadnt thought of it in that light. it was always been said to me in the tone of. the mods need to have failed a wof before they get certed. but non cert related issues being fixed before the car is declared legal makes sense. will await clint/and a phone call to the local cert man. any other hoops i should expect to jump?
  22. yes/no the car is lowered, but not lower than 100mm so im not sure if its really involved with the cert as it doesn't brake the threshold? edit - lowered on 2" blocks, lower springs and shocks to suit. is wof legal
  23. gonna be a case of asking i guess then. fuck thats dumb, ive spent the last two years thinking about all the things illegal about my car and the wof guys only ever pick up on the major things, im going to have to actually point out a bunch of stuff to fail me on. and yeah will be ian smith in chch, as thats the only option left. have heard ok things about him. don hoff who was very hit or miss as i hear (maybe hes the wof barry??) has retired or something
  24. i have a couple of basic questions. ones that could be asked of the certifier but i always forget to call in business hours. and he doesn't have a published email, fair enough, imagine the constant stream of emails asking if welded diffs are legal what is a basic pre cert shopping list gonna look like, do i need a fresh wheel alignment do i need to have failed a warrant noting all the things i want to cert or is that just an urban myth as it sounds super dumb is there any other hoop i need to jump through, other than supplying a car that is up to cert spec (i think im good, but am expecting to be bounced on a few things that i may have done wrong or forgotten)
  25. . While that is true, left hand banks would now have an amplified effect. That said its only max 10 degrees so won't matter fuck all, you'd have to crank in nearly 80 degrees for it to actually uncover the ports, and there are other obveous problems with that scenario. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't creating bleeding issues. Also gives me the added benifit of being able to drill the new bolt pattern into fresh steel.
