touched up panels are lighter, but using the same paint
BlownCorona replied to BlownCorona's topic in Tech Talk
you see that's what had me confused, it wasn't like the mix was off, we used the exact same paint, as in, there was still half a tin left over from the initial spraying. that's what leads us to believe its the number of coats causing the issues, i did notice it was a pretty transparent paint when we used it first time. -

just been around to see the car in some proper light and bring it home, looks like the paint has gone on with more coats and the true colour has come through (the colour under this paint is a darker blue) so im thinking the only option is to hit the rest of the car with some more coats, does anyone know if the curent lighter panels are gonna show through more paint? -
that spring is just plain not captive
-
just out of curiosity, what happens if you cut the top hat thread another 15mm?/bad idea?
-
if you can spin it its 'captive' but only by about 1/100 of a mm, there should be enough tension to hold it tight and thus avoid it slipping out. were the springs new or second hand? ive had issues with some 2nd hand direct replacement mr2 springs, they guy had them installed in shorter shocks and compressed them so they weren't usable in standard shocks.

both times the car was painted as a whole (to avoide miss matched ironicly) i dont know how many coats went on, the other problem is, bit of pre info, the panels painted were the passengers front gaurd and the passenger front door. the 'join' between the hood and the gaurd looks perfect, but the join between the door and the rear door is utter shit, and i cant notice a change in the shade (though very possible its gradient im sure) -

oh you cant see the primer anymore, that was why it was touched up. -

the 'old' new paint does still need its final wet sand and polish, so maybe ill leave it a week or two and do the whole lot at once then see whats up... :/ hope its as simple as that -
So i've just had a couple panels re done as the paint didn't go on thick enough and you could still see the patches of primer, i just got back to see the car and the panels are way lighter my mate used the exact same paint (left over from original), i haven't had a chance to speak to him to see what's up as he's away this weekend, but thought someone on here might no what's going on? it looks terrible and i cannot leave it like this... the actual painting looks great, like a mirror but its like its a different shade completely.

that windscreen banner is pretty sweet, shame the mods say no to them , maybe when the site gets its redesign we may have a new logo and banners may be on the cards/dreams. sweet car though, should be alot of fun -
so keen to see how this performs, my v50 will be getting the same treatment in the near future. loving the style here, definitely needs a lower profile seat and smaller bars like you say.

that's a decent idea actually

it really is a wonder that Christchurch hasn't descended into vigilante justice with all the crime that happens. have you rang around van wreckers and places that buy and sell vans and commercial vehicles? -
just make sure they are clean and give them a light sand to give the paint something to key into. also use a decent quality hard wearing paint because wheels take a beating/matte black is easy to touch up, meh

had all the glass out, tints are fairly nice now and nothing at all to complain about for a total of 5 bucks and a few hours. painted a couple of the frame parts while they were out too. nicely tie in with the whole blue and black theme im running with

grabbed a roll of 35% tint from mutiny for a 5ver and had a go at tinting my windows today, came out aright, not perfect, but good enough for me to roll with. and ive decided in time ill be getting it done professionally. but i think it suits the light tint and it should hopefully keen inside temps down a bit. -
that lush bench seat looks like the go, if you want it to look more like a couch then just run some fabric from the seats to the floor and attach with velcro.
-
ive done a few seat installs, used decent angle or flat steel and kept it tidy, and sprayed it black to match. never even noticed
-
would be cheaper to get stock bench seat reupholstered like a couch wouldnt it?
-
Its highly likely you just need to sand the terminals, or sometimes on my car, there is a plug inside the bumper that sometimes comes undone. if worst comes to worst its not hard to power them off the tail light loom or something.

Ford Escort MK2 - Twin Weber Carb not working???
BlownCorona replied to The_Jims's topic in Tech Talk
whats the timing like? you shouldn't be getting ignition on the other side of the valved at all, the car should at the very least splutter or something with the screws tuned wrong. though in saying that, i did too ONCE get a flame poke out the top of my 32/36. not sure why (ive fine tuned the timing since them so maybe that), but its the reason i dont run foam filters, fire hazard at best... edit, ive fixed a lot of motorbike engines by starting the engine with engine start and then revving it for a bit and just running fuel through the whole lot, i can get a nice base tune on it and it starts quite easily afterwards for fine tuning. just don't start the engine on engine start all the time cause it'll only cause damage
