  1. Its an incredible process to watch happen. Its a pva based film which he lays over a water bath, then sprays an activator on and it kind of dissolves into the water. the part has been sprayed in a base coat (like for wood grain some shade of brown) then dips it into the film/water and pulls it out with the pattern on it. whole lot gets rinsed for a bit and then sprayed with clear coat. So at the end its pretty much a really high quality painted finish. Thats why it costs a bit coz there is a massive amount of prep work has to go into getting everything totally smooth. I actually thought it would be more than $300 for valve covers, thats pretty good.
  2. Mechanical Engineering, I'm doing some 3rd year and some 4th year papers. Same here, I'm still working on my assignments, don't wanna get caught out if I stop. What you studying?
  3. my mate runs this business: www.fluidcoatings.co.nz save up, do roof in woodgrain
  4. MEGA EDIT: Have changed the name of this thread from my tandem build so now its for my bikes in general.
  5. yeah its pretty shit aye. I've got 4 assignments, 2 tests and 1 exam in the next 2 weeks. Sucks not knowing if they are still on or when things will be due.
  6. Was wondering how your shed had faired. Might be able to help with cleanup depending what happens with uni
  7. Cheers mate, will have a look at that tomorrow
  8. Looks like it will make a sweet project. At least you get to take yours to bits! I got mine off a workmate who had swapped it for something else. I had a look, made an offer but he said he needed to wait for his mrs to see it before he would be allowed to let it go. She fell in love with it so he stripped it apart to fix and then put in the too hard basket as he had a mk1 esky project already, so then sold it to me for previously agreed price but also gave me heaps of other parts that werent in the original deal. So worked out good in the end but sooner or later I'm gunna have to try and re-assemble it! shouldn't be too hard though, most of it will be custom built anyway.
  9. Have also found this but have to be very careful not to blow through especially just as you come around to finish the circle. Perhaps should drill some holes in some scrap and practice with them first to make sure you can do it without making holes/mess
  10. Will it work ok with it unplugged? There is some yellow paint on the screw but its not really a consistent blob over the washer and onto the housing, hard to tell properly if its been messed with or not. I do have a good fluke multimeter though
  11. ^ makes sense, It would revert to an idle map if it thought the throttle was closed right?
  12. That could be it actually haha sometimes it does just feel like there is massive amounts of backlash somewhere
  13. Ok so i've had this FXGT for about 2 weeks now so still ironing it out. The transition between throttle being on and throttle being off seems to be really sharp. (thats the best way i can think of to describe it) If you are trying to drive at parking lot speed once the load comes off the engine like once you get to a steady speed, it seems to go into overrun really sharply until it drops speed to a point and then picks up again. PITA as you end up looking like a rookie doing bunny hop type things - its not quiet either... It runs nice and smooth in normal driving, no noticable missfires or cutting out. Its a hard one to describe sorry but any ideas what it might be? corolla is 1989 4age with TVIS
  14. Congratulations guys, that house is so awesome. I'd love to have the patience and skills to build all of that! Well done
  15. Good call. I wanna run mine pretty much as low as I can legally go and without changing the body shape at all.
  16. At the moment I am planning on keeping the struts even if I don't use them I think. They are getting pretty hard to come by and I think they are a good brake upgrade for a mk1 cortina (which my mrs just happens to want to buy in the next year or so). Not sure exactly how much lower you can really get away with on them. It depends on how short the inserts are that you get, then after that you can drop it as much as you like, but as you start to run out of shock travel you have to go for harder springs. And then after that you need to consider the bump steer geometry between the tie rod and lower control arm, and you might also be limited to how low you can go if you run out of angle in the ball joints. So since you are customizing the struts really there is no set answer. That said, this page here http://retrorides.proboards.com/index.c ... 095&page=1 is a really good place to start. But like I say you can use whatever inserts will fit so you could go even lower but are limited by other geometry.
  17. Hadn't thought of it like that, had always just thought a blow through set up would be similar with throttle bodies to how it would be with a carb? felixx - the struts I have for it are mk2 cortina ones, the plan was to cut and shut them with shorter inserts and a coil over kit. However i'm starting to plan something a little different but i'm going to keep it to myself for the moment until I've thought it all the way through.
  18. Is it possible to certify fabricated uprights? Like this or this Would you need to have welds crack tested etc?
  19. Could be an idea, i'll post up on here closer to the time and let ya know
  20. I'll do my best to be there, its right on exams and assignment times so will just have to wait and see really at this stage.
  21. What I meant by that was Throttle bodies + injection + supercharger
  22. Yeah in all honesty I had been having the same thoughts. It has just been an idea that has evolved, I was initially just going to run NA with the R1 carbs, and then decided to go SC but yeah am starting to think it will be much much easier if I go with Throttle bodies and injection. Will keep planning and thinking about it before I go selling the carbs though. Dad will be gutted haha he worked so hard to solder together my Megajolt!
  23. Just digging this out of the archives incase noone can find it
  24. Was like christmas today, opened a bunch of stuff from the states. Got my R1 quad carbs and also my M90 supercharger, it came with intercooler and pipes from the thunderbird it came out of. I have no use for that 'supercharged' pipe but will have to find one coz it looks awesome. exciting stuff but still no time to actually work on the car
