  1. Nah will be rollin as is, will have less steering play by then, or it will be on roof on desert road... Will get stereo working + OS accesories and polish rust out. May even attempt a warrant
  2. Already ordered beam adjusters and shocks, just need money. Will be low with the benefit of making it standard when the need arises, Have ordered new dashtop for it and screen rubbers, all profit from recent sales gone in one hit. West Coast Metric are my new best friends and Visa debit.. Shame im losing my licence for 9 months next week..
  3. thanks will keep paint on this one, its cool when there weather worn but to actually fake the weather beaten look is ultimate try hard/ leave it to the Honda boies and Watercooled VW pansies Its so tight mechanically Im gunna leave alone, gave it a service and she runs mint after two bottles of injection cleaner be nice not to worry bout twin carbs and jetting nightmares for once, plus auto is awesome as typ3 gearchanges and clutch jerkiness is arse. Prob do 1835 kit when im bored/blow trans Also IRS rear end, yay no more swing axle stz
  4. 1970 VW type3 Fastback, Cali import, fuel injected, auto Opening rear windows, out of it thing is theres no hinges. The glass bends... Yep LHD FTW Crossply whitewalls.. First thing I did was fit compulsary headlamp eyebrows/pedestrian wasters. Will post more photos when I strip her down, theres some nasty rust action hiding in places At moment rollin as is.. May make an appearance down palmy this weekend. Car has 2 owners prior, orig books, dealer keyring( Fred Lucksinger Motors Ltd 955 Morro st S L O, Calif 543-2800 ) seatbelts and tyres 70000 miles Dirty rot has come to spoil the party in places tho, mainly behind rear guards and a pillars.
  5. Fuck backlash, just crank it up for whiplash and weld inernals and do a skud ( not helpfull I know ) Whenever I used to change the flange on Escorts ( used to use Zephyr driveshafts and flanges for pinto conversions, now too rare/ easier options ) I used to just tighten them up and never had a problem, you have to really crank them to adjust/ crush tube and you only need it as tight as the nut yyou are undoing in the first place. Which from memory I used to undo with a 3/8 bar and replace with same bar... Could be wrong but I always thought Escort diff's had shims to adjust backlash and footprint like quality cars..
  6. Dude that thing is sweet, do it up be easy as just powerwash and fit a tang and do a skid as said earlier the rest of you need to harden up, everything is fixable and it actually looks quite solid If it was a rx2 the'd be no question of saving it Reg on hold too is sweet plus cert for Mazda, fit dohc turb Vauxhall club has heaps of spares including new guards last time I checked
  7. If repco still sells Jack oil id use that as worked mint for me in the past, havent seen it in ages tho Prob get at supercheep, often called Hydraulic oil- not to be confused with hydraulic fluid
  8. Oh snap, Rootes group in da house!!!!!
  9. Rootes group did the largest engine order between companies of all time 15000 engines The plug was pulled when Chrysler brought them as Chrysler couldn't bear the thought of selling a car in the states with a Ford motor.. Plus the Mopar unit wouldn't fit, too wide and distributor at rear of motor, shame coz apparently according to the old boys the Sunbeam would outhandle the Cobra, not surprising as Shelby had a crack at designing it before they got Jensen to do it, who ironically used Chrysler motors for their products.. Keen to hear more about the V6 prototype, would explain why the Talbot V6 was in development before the PRV V6 that powered it.. Have heard about the twin cam prototypes and seen a Avenger Twincam in the flesh. Back to the subject of the Superminx, yeah the Hunter unit will fit, just use the backplate from the Arrow motor and front plate for engine mounts. Done, but ditch the SU's or strombergs they dont suit the motor, get the twin choke weber. Cool Still waiting for pic's...
  10. Convert to Austin Metro-Sexual FTW
  11. Yeah but pretty sure OS peer pressure will win out in the end..
  12. Please use heatgun to remove mayfair stickers and side stripes ta
  13. The best conversion i've seen in a Minx-like vehicle (Sceptre- flash as Superminx) was a T series Rover 2.2 Turbo from a Tomcat, fitted in sweet and looked the part, Hillman had prototype twin cam motors in sixties so kinda fitting. Also 289 Ford should go in as engine bay and suspension basically same as Sunbeam Alpine, which got those motors installed factory for the Tiger version Meen, do it and add j-type overdrive or five speed and have power and economy fuck the Pinto let those boat anchors sit in bogans shed's and seize. Or use as toxic landfill
  14. Just reverse steels for max awesomeness, then come get parts from my shed Got 2 grilles, 4 hubcaps, heaps of front lights, carbs, interior parts like switches dash clusters, handles etc all too good to bin or I would have done already. Kept for X gf's 280E but she can go choke on a cyanide dildo hence free to someone else..
  15. Same as Allegro, Princess, Maxi, MGF actually a wicked system when its not deflated. Basically its a citroen setup thats non adjustable and less complicated but somehow seems to shit itself most regularly... My suggestion, cane it, take lol photos rallying it, daily it till it gets to be pig bait, get it pink stickered, roll onto roof on gravel road then rip out running gear and brakes and put into Mini clubman or chuck on tardme- profit Speaking from experience, or make into convertible for lols..
  16. Metro.... Strong Bros in Glenfield have the pump to fill suspension, you'll find at least two displacers will be shot out if it was driven lots on its arse. At least its a hatchback and you can come and get all these Merc parts out of my shed ta
  17. The worst bit about the alloy heads is the corrosion is often hidden untill they crack, which they do- regularly. Trust me, I ran a H120 Rapier and various rootes group cars and scrapped more useless heads than you would imagine, before giving up and putting steel head on, which your car will have and is fine as the car was designed with the extra weight of the head in mind. The casting process wasn't up to much, they fixed it by the time the Hunter came out, the heads are slightly different and the front plate, manifolds and starters and sump are different due to the engine canted over 15 degrees in the hunter, but you can use the block and head with modification. The hardest part to find for a Superminx is a rot free thermostat housing, you'll find out soon enough unless you got lucky. When you see how bad they rot you'll see why people warn against the alloy heads, they rusted away even early on in their lives. Weber FTW, thats my vote Plus find a Sunbeam Rapier roll bar for the front, stops epic bump steer
  18. Heaps of manifolds availible for twin choke downdraft weber or solex, made locally too. http://www.griffiths.co.nz/brands_wildcat.html Used to be made by griffiths- now wildcat accesories, need extractors too as the inlet and exhaust manifold one piece. Had a hot Superminx years ago, was surprisingly tuneable, had Weber twin choke, gas flowed head and volvo pistons for 1900 capacity. Good for 120mph with standard gearing, no exaduration. Incredibly weak conrods though, known for punching nice big fun holes in blocks when worn out or making big hp which they can make, Rootes group used this motor in the Sunbeams which did well at Le Mans etc For touring find an overdrive gearbox out of a Rapier or Vogue, O and stay away from the alloy heads and if it has one find a steel one and flow it. Use the filter housing off the Hunter motor to convert it to spin on filter and get better flow and less leaks plus Mitsubishi Lancer distributors fit, as per late model Hunter, get a electronic one ( who would of thought Mitsi's had a use?) Keen for pics when it arrives The Avenger engine and the Minx motor share no parts by the way
  19. Gheck for air leaks between manifold and AFM, can make 155's run like shit and feel like there missing You sholud get it on the scan tool, sure someone on here has one you can use to get codes. O2 sensors fail too failing that check and scrape clean dist cap, bet its furry as fuck.. Mean car btw Did my apprenticeship on those tugs, not as bad as people would have you believe.. Remember every fault mechanically or electrically gets blown out of proportion on Alfa's as people love the storys even the customers used to boast about how many warranty claims they had made. In reality they were a lot better than most euro products and other high end jap stuff of the era and now have one of the highest customer satisfaction ratings, and still using the V6..
  20. Pull start JAP motors are mean.. MAde many a slo kart out of these, most ridiculously small piston with the hugest rings..
  21. Gutted so many Princess'es are dying to make escorts stop.. Would have thought that was the least of their worries, better idea- save the Princess and have a car without cart springs and with proper styling etc..
