  1. Yea, shits getting epic now. Old boy has been working on it heaps since ive gotten BMX fever the last couple of weeks and have been useless with it haha. New race track 2 minutes from my house, got the misses into it and she cant stay away. Drags me down there 3 days a weekend atm
  2. Intercooler plumbing and radiator overflow Oooooo eeeeee shes getting close now.
  3. Are you able to work on the car in storage? How much of the driveline is complete? Do you have a ECU for it? I have a NA tune for a megasquirt if you want it. My suggestion is to just get the car running NA, chip away at it and in the end you will be supprised at the results. I spent $3300 building my 1uz Crown, it took me 8 months but i just did everything as cheap as possible but man what a hilariously fun car to drive. I too had plans of grandure for my crown but at the time i could not afford to do them. It had no WOF, reg or cert and i drove it every sunday for months. Cops would give me the thumbs up, People would tell me stories of there v8s they had when i filled up at the petrol station. I ended up selling it because i couldnt afford a cert but the best thing i ever did was finish it. I thought about scrapping the whole thing as i had nowhere to work on it, or store it. In the end i had to beg my folks to store it on there lawn and i would work on it there out in the sun on fine days. I remember wiring it up with it pissing down with rain, hiding inside the car using a butane soldering iron. Just a suggestion.
  4. Maybe, it seems to be trendy right now to spray paint that shit on ur tires. I was just liking the lack of bumper with chin spoiler, and since i can get a chin spoiler for this car easier then i can seem to find a bumper, it maybe an option.
  5. Dump pipe and waterlines done!! Intercooler plumbing to go.
  6. We are intending to run a MR2 PS pump in the carina under the dash in a firebox (with the accusump). We are going to run it off a VFO that is controlled by a dial ramping the pump speed up and down. This means we can set it to our preference as 2 of us will be using the car. This negates all the MR2's steering sensors, and extra ecu we require. The rear subframe looks rad. I need to rebuild ours to take a JZX90 diff and axles but its going to be far more involved i think as i want to keep the Carina trailing arm suspension. Still working on a game plan for this, current idea is "lets just see if whats in there blows up first"
  7. Seen the MPR 9age kit? Designed by a New Zealander and manufactured by CP Pistons, bumps the 7age to 1900cc. Looks the business. Bit outside your budget though. I have a few mates who ran 7age's back in the day and they all had a problem smashing cranks. What do you plan to do with the car?
  8. im feeling this even tho it is a e70, similar looking. OOOOooshhh
  9. Go C's Garage knuckles, max caster and big rear sway bar, Torsion LSDs loose there juice very quickly, try find a clutch type LSD or locker. The torsions if u drop a wheel in the grass explode. Dan with the supercharged carina on here ran the torsions out of the altezzas as they fit in F series housings in xA6x IRS cars and he blew up a few of them. They would 'undo' themselves and detonate. Not very good for drifting but ok for 'track abuse' The viscous lsd's in MX5s also loose their grip quickly once they get hot, and no matter what diff oil you run you cant make them stickier as they are a sealed throw away unit. Also have you joined the mx5 drift forum? HEAPS of info there.
  10. I had a 1800cc BP motor in my NA mx5 and i found it weaksauce. Craziest thing is i drove a 1600 and it smashed it in everything, acceleration, torque, general peppyness. The BP was just a lazy ass motor. However i did not drive the vvti one. Is there anyway you can go for a thrash in one to see what its like? Learning from my experiance smashing up my Trueno, you are better to invest in lock mods, suspension and diff before you mess with the motor. Keisuke destroys with a factory 4age in his 86 but his suspension/lock mods is off the chain. I however had no lock mods, and just adjustables (no extra caster, camber or even a rear sway bar) but an angry ass motor and my car missbehaved terribly and drove like a sack of crap, even tho i had the extra power i was yerning for. It was my biggest regret throwing all that effort into the motor but scrimping on the suspension. Good job on the skids btw, keep it up.
  11. Haha, it was only time until this got a project thread.... You secretly love it dont you.
  12. Yea, im still on the fence weather i should have let them put it in there or not. They hunted it out on facebook and asked me through there if they could run it in the mag. Kinda thinking it would have been cooler to finish first.
  13. Man gutted on the finger. I once dropped a press tool die on my middle finger on my right hand. Shit when straight to the bone. Will take a bit of time to get over, but shits fine now. Crown = i want it to have my babies. Bitches love switches. On these suspension setups do they slowly seep pressure or once the bags are full and you roll at a particular ride height you wont hear the compressor go on very often? I heard a real interesting mod people do is to take the AC pump and use that as a compressor on the engine as a booster pump and use an electric compressor at first just to fill the tanks.
  14. I just realised i hadnt even posted up pictures of the engine mounts. Note: In this picture the turbo manifold is dummied on, the bolts could not be bolted up as the turbo was fowling on the strut tower and the bonnet, we ended up having to move it all forward 65mm which is what i finished doing today. They are painted orange to match the body haha. They use the factory A series crossmember, and we have a set of TRD A series engine mounts for it on its way. Also made a new gearbox mount, and the driveshaft is fitted into the gearbox and it all looks good. The only issue is it all need to come back out again to fit the flywheel as that got sent away to get the ring gear done, this took longer then expected and in that amount of time we had made the engine mounts, gearbox mount and fitted the engine all up. Be good excuse to get the engine back out and give the engine bay a quick spray. We took the old radiator support to PPG and got 3 cans of spray paint made up, shit is expensive but they assure us that it will adhere as well as the stuff out of a gun so heres hoping.
  15. Woo a nice camera to take photos with haha. Finished the passengers side turbo manifold. It needed to be heavily modified to fit in the carina engine bay unfortunately. But it is finished! and the bonnet clears which is a bonus. Also tested the front out with all the intercooler stuff inplace and they will need to be spaced forward 4mm a side to clear intercooler but thats fine. When you fit the bonnet you dont even notice that the lights are forward at all. Old boy went to pick a part today to look at bumpers for it but he couldnt see a AE92 in the style we want. PICTURES The ruler was used as a guide, the turbo had to be underneath it for the bonnet to close. All is going well so far. Not bad progress in a week...
  16. Slow day today, ended up out at procoat trying to pick up something that wasnt ready, saving a bird from my cat, and finishing the brackets for the front of the carina. Tomorrow is turbo day, may try and source another 2 metre length of 30x6 but if it involved me driving to mangare i dont think im too enthused about that
  17. I have left my job to go study at uni, so i am a bum until the 18th of feburary. This means i will be working on the carina and carina related projects every weekday. This was todays mission, a 80 x 7mm plate folder for making brackets and rails with for intercooler and seat rails. Took me all day to round it up and make all the shit for the stand and bender. Machinary house wanted $260 for a stand, this cost me $67 in steel, and a can of spray paint.
  18. I will buy a better phone one day
  19. Was waiting for this comment. Car is grandad spec bar the wheels and alarm. I have a set of factory alloys im throwing on it and the 18's will go on the crown. I will just roll the JZX factory for the year until i finish studying. Then manual, adjusties, diff, skids (proberly all happen a lot sooner but you cant tell my wife)
  20. So i got another car to daily, wife will drive the crown to work, and i will be driving the jzx90 to tech (without the lexus wheels on it).
  21. NicT

    Martyns AE86

This now runs! Will get outside pictures soon.
  22. Yes but you also didnt upright the engine like both circumstances i am talking about (proberly should have elaberated earlier)
  23. Kinloud on toyspeed had a 3sge in his carina running an accusump and he pushed the shit out of it regularly with track meets for years, he is a good friend of mine. He showed me in car footage looking at pressure gauges as he cornered then showed me extensive calculations for oil flow rates vs pressure supplied with time frames of how fast the accusump will drop in quantity for different circumstances. I also helped build the same setup, similar car (tt141 corona), one outing, toasted cam journels. A 3sge oil pump flows 8 galons per minute, or 30 litres per minute. 500 mils per second. A 3 quart Accusump holds 2.8 litres. With 0 oil pressure from the oil pump the accusump should supply full pressure for 5.6 seconds. Granted the corner at ruapuna may be longer, but it is an insurance mechanism not a 100% fix for no oil in the sump. Regardless, we have the accusump so we are fitting it. Got any info on what the subaru guys do truenotch? always worth reading and doing additional work if it helps.
