Hows the steering?
Also, man this sounds tough IRL
Its great, still a bit heavier than I would like with my weak ass arms but about 3.04 times better than it was. I think as the rack wears in and the balljoints and tierod ends bed in, it will get much better. I parked it back in the carport just before and it was so much easier than yesterday when you watched me struggle. LeL
The wheel alignment guy said it had low caster on one side and about the right amount on the other, so he has dialled in more caster on one side, which I did not expect, and it had 2.5 degrees of camber on both sides which he pulled back to 1.5 per side. The toe was also out miles to start with, but I kinda knew that would be the case.
But believe it or not, I think the big culprit was the tyre pressures, they were set as 10psi... Even the wheel alignment guy was surprised because they looked fully inflated. (I now don't trust the gauge at the workshop) Go figure..- 3

No worries @Flash. FYI, the wheel has a brilliant "feel" under your hand when driving so 10/10 for that, but 3/10 for installation ease, it is a CUNT of a thing to install, the wheel bosses have 2 PCD's and you have to bolt up the steering wheel, the steel ring that retains the horn button and the polished alloy cover all together using tiny pan head bolts, all while making sure it is into the right set of holes, you'll need to dismantle it all to realign the steering wheel (can't just pop out the horn centre to access the centre nut) so make sure you have all the straight ahead position set up the first time you install it so you don't have to install it twice.
Also I just got it back from the alignment shop, it drives like a freaking dream now, and I calibrated the speedo on the way home so it is not telling me lies any more.

goodshit on getting some progress and getting it closer to the finish.
Im not sure if your aware but edelbrock make a fuel fitting from the carb to a 90 that comes out the front which softline goes straight on. or they do a fuel filter fitting end version too
also if the fuel filter you have is the clear glass/plastic jobbie from speed shops ive seen them blow apart which isn't good and they are really restrictive. once you open them as from memory you can unscrew them and see how shit they are.
Any car i worked on that was getting fuel or engine related work on would get them taken off and a steel one fitted. or the customer was told about those filters.
not that im telling you how to build your own car. just some advice if you weren't already aware
has a nice lope to it too
Not sure what you mean by the 90 degree fitting on the carb. Got a link?
Also Joe said the same thing to me earlier today so yes I do now plan to replace the glass filter. I have it fitted for now just to keep an eye on the fuel, the tank has been 10% full for 7 years and who knows how much surface rust formed on the top of the tank.
I have a big fuel injection type fuel filter at the back of the car before the fuel pump but I still want to see if any crap is getting through from the tank and the glass filter is the easiest way to watch.
After I've jammed a couple of tanks of fuel through I'll ditch the glass filter and replace it with an anti return valve.

What an amazing milestone. Well done. Engine sounds really good in that video clip.
I really like your steering wheel too. What is it and where did you get it from ?
I got it from VPW in Aussie - https://www.vpw.com.au/parts/SAA-SW704PSW

It was a big day today... Still got a bit to do but like they say, good things take time.
Thanks again to the amazing and beautiful souls @Seedy Al and @Goat for their hard work while I stood there and took photos. Without them and their assistance, I would have struggled to get it over the line.
Oh yeah, it may have driven under its own power and I drove it across town to it at home for the first time in 7 years...- 44

Excellent werk my guy..... Can't wait to see this hooning again. Can really hear the energy polarizer doing it's thing in that idle.
I'm putting the Chris into Energy Polarizing Crystals...

Yeah, one of my must haves when I specced the cam with @BobbyBreeze was a fairly ropey idle. Also the decent bump in compression helps that along nicely.

You can get a huge number of installation kits on Amazon etc so they bolt directly into your vehicle with the surround etc. But be wary of LHD vs RHD market.
I ordered a dash insert for my Prius when I fitted a non OE double DIN head unit and when it turned up it looked correct until I fitted it and it was ever so slightly out. there was a small gap around it on the left lower corner and the right lower corner had interference.
I could make it fit with a bit of muscling it in, but it didn't look right, I ended up getting a different insert and wasted the US$50 or whatever the first insert cost me. -

Would you need a cert for a RPV or hold off valve to?
If a safety related system and its not listed in the threshold, then technically it requires cert.
But people don't normally install an residual pressure valve on a completely stock good condition set of brakes, or the vehicle would come with one from the factory.
Most often they are fitted to fix a problem that presents itself as a result of a modification to the braking system and its that modification that would usually kick it into requiring cert.- 3

I loved the BA wagon. K-trips possibly still has it? Dunno.
Rumrum - talk to Vivaspeed. He knows import GS stuff
Nah I ran that around for a couple years and spent a bit too much moolah on it. Then one day I realised that I owned a BA wagon, an XF wagon, a VH wagon and a Xantia wagon and realised one man can only get so erect/should only get stay erect for so long. So I sold the BA and XF and scrapped the Xantia, concentrating on the VH now. Which in saying that, is fairly close to driving.

Looks fucking banging son. Good job.
To re-embed the links you will need to reattach them, settings changed. I have changed the setting to allow them again.- 3

Long weekend, lots of work. Pulled all the yucky bits of trim out of the stack and cleaned off 7 years of storage grime. It was pretty gross, now its just pretty.
Will still need to armorall it or something when it is installed, but for now its as good as it gets. Oh yeah I installed the top half of the dash and the windscreen magically installed itself too.
At the point where the only things I can do before the sparky gets his hands on it is check the diff oil and plumb up the fuel pump which are this weeks jobs.

Question for those who have fitted v-band exhaust flanges onto their ride.
Is it possible to fit these v-bands and weld the exhaust pipe on, from the inside of the v-band flange (B in my picture) instead of on the outside of the v-band flange (A in my picture)
The reason I ask is there is very little room to weld the top of the v-band on without removing the headers because the floor is in the way, I'm trying to avoid what would be an absolute cunt of a job.

Amazing how much progress can happen with lots of little 1-2 hour bites after work, 3-4 nights a week.
I now have all new engine and gearbox mounts and plumbing is well underway, just waiting on some nice fancy T-bolt clamps to finish that off.
Biggest thing is throwing a bunch of electrical bits and pieces in the car and figuring out the plugs etc for the auto sparky to do their thing.
Also splashed out on a new grunty AGM battery, 850CCA, should spin it over like a sewing machine.
I have a big day planned after Wellington Anniversary weekend to throw the dashboard in. Might even get the windscreen put in too, if I have time.
Its all go now, it has an important date on the 8th Feb with the sparky.
Pic of it on all fours - saucy devil.

I am genuinely humbled with my amazing friends. @Seedy Al@Goat@JasonK who all turned up this morning to help me do some stuff that my aging body just struggles to do, especially on my back (giggidy) . We did a solid 6 hours work, fitting gearbox, making brake lines, mounting fuel pump and filter plus a multitude of small shit I cannot even remember.
Thank you so much to you guys for the motivation ♥♥♥, your enthusiasm, your getting shit done while I stood there and complained about my aches and pains. You have done in 1 day what would have taken me a solid 6 weeks of nights to do. For this, I am so very grateful. Love you guys and I hope your good ladies squeeze your buns and touch you in ways that I shouldn't.
So now I have pretty much everything done under and outside the car that I need to get done and I move to doing the interior stuff and get as much of that in as I can before I ship it to the sparky for a rewire at the beginning of Feb.
Some pics from today. Doesn't look like a lot from previous pics, but I can tell you that a metric fuck tonne got done. (2 olympic size swimming pools stacked to the top of an elephant on a double decker bus travelling to the moon to be precise)

I got a wof for my mums car from him, not much brake checking went on, I wrote a letter to Waka transport and used google translate to translate it into maori and sent it to them
That's a bit of a dick move, why are you wasting the time of people just trying to do their job?
