@Vk304, I did not know Mace made a roller cam for the Iron Lion? When I was researching for mine, all of their 304 stuff was for flat tappet cams.

Technically no but excessive wheel alignment can cause handling issues. This means that if the vehicle veers significantly to one side, or the vehicle requires unreasonable force to steer, or the steering is unreasonably stiff, rough or light, or the vehicle does not handle safely under normal conditions of road use, eg the suspension is excessively hard or soft, or there is excessive body roll, or the vehicle does not self-centre, then it fails.

I put a nail through the carpet to mark the bolt hole in the floor. Then used a 12mm socket on an extension, heated the socket till it had a cherry red ring at the leading edge and the nail was a great target to lower the socket around, it burnt through the carpet and insulation leaving a perfectly round hole, plus it had the benefit of a nice cauterized the edge of the carpet so it wouldn't unravel (good old el-cheapo synthetic carpet material). Definitely far better than the old drill through the carpet jobby I used to do which just ended in multiple holes and with frayed carpet sticking out.

I see no problem with this. Even less of a problem on the Chathams. PS - I'm sure you already know this but if you galv your wheels, re-torque them daily for a the first week or until you they no longer move when you re-torque them (whichever is longer). The galv under the wheel nut will wear away as the wheels and galv coating bed in to each other.

Looking fantastic and keep the rake, it looks so cool. Also as a suggestion for a low key weight increase, a 25mm thick chunk of ply laid on the floor would not look offensive and they weigh the best part of 50kg. Also if you shift the battery right to the back and under the floor should give you most of the weight you need.

So, since this has been on the road, I've been ironing out a few niggly issues. A couple of vibrations and noises being the main culprits for now. One of the vibrations was the brand new harmonic balancer. Totally my fault. I'm an idiot and don't want to talk about it, but a word of advice, aluminium harmonic dampers are not designed for street cars and I now have a $400 paperweight on my desk... I also found the driveshaft was ever so slightly out of phase from when it was built by local driveshaft "specialist" back when I first did the V8 conversion. luckily I could pull it apart and because it has a centre CV joint with a spline making it easy to reclock it and get the driveshaft close enough to in phase. The main harmonic has gone but there is still a vibration between 90 and 100Km/, so currently have a digital protractor on order and going to check the front and rear UJ angles and bring those back into coo-ee if they are different. If that doesn't fix it then its off to the driveshaft shop (a different one) for a balance, because I cannot see any non-factory balance weights on the driveshaft halves and I don't have the confidence the local driveshaft "specialist" even bothered to balance it. Also as the engine has bedded in it developed a bit of lifter noise, so in the process of adjusting all the lifter clearances again, which if you know anything about Holden engines, know how much of a pain in the dick this is, remove the pedastal, linish a small amount off the bottom of each rocker pedastal, reinstall, check, remove, repeat until the clearance is right. Got the passenger side bank done, but gave up for the night after 3 hours. Drivers side next week. But in good progress, I spent today installing the carpet. Thank god I'm not an upholsterer, this is not a fun job, my body is too old, to unfit and too inflexible to be doing this shit. But I got it done and it looks reasonable. Yes its the wrong colour but a brand new brown carpet set came up for very cheap on Marketplace and I just took a $400 fortnightly increase in my mortgage repayments earlier this month so its close enough until I can afford to buy the right colour carpet. Anyhow, it matches the brown of the dash and centre console kinda OK and I learnt a lot installing it, meaning the right colour one should be easier. Pic for fred.

I got a bit of a bargain on some brown carpet for me Dunnydoor. On arrival today, it appears to be far lighter than the brown I imagined it would be so I have 2 questions... My first question to all you number 8 fencing wire fiends is, has anyone dyed their carpet before and was it successful? My second question, do you know anyone in NZ who does vinyl dye in custom tinted colour? I know I can get it from some custom paint outfits in Aussie, but shipping aerosols/paint is probably going to be a problem without expensive AF Hazardous Goods shipping. (I said AEROSOLS, you filthy bugger) I know I can get the vinyl dye spray bombs from Dupli-color/VHT but they don't appear to make any of the darker brown shades. Thanks in advance. PS - I have used the Vinyl Dye stuff before and it did a great job on some doorcards, so I am confident the product is good, just not sure how it goes on carpets.

I measure mine with the head gasket off, so if I can see a thin area of plasticine when I pull the head off then I know its going to be fucking close, but I still have the thickness of the head gasket clearance. If I can see through the plasticine, I call it a problem. Not very scientific but hasn't failed me yet.

Just think when it was last on the road, some Oldschoolers didn't even have kids, now they have 2 or 3...
