  1. Yeh Im pretty stoked with how it came out, yet to load it up with all the van crap but Im sure there will be ample room and then some. Have since purcahsed a genuine made in Egypt rug to cover the back, something a bit different to carpet haha (and only 30 bucks from the opshop). Next up is Mahiris job to make the curtains. Im atatched wires along the top and bottomso we just need to find some old curtains to cut to size and throw the sweing machine at them.
  2. Myslef (and a few other peoplel I know) have made them using flat bar across the bottom with a half round loop on top, and had no troubles come cert time. But probaly down to the individual cert man.
  3. Spent a few hours over the weekend building this. Used the existing base as a starting point shortened it, raised it, and then made the front half into storage. Back will be for storage boxes to slide in and out. Was going to to drawers but that meant raising it further which was unkeen to do as I can still sit on the bed with where it is now. Final dimensions are a queen mattress (1.5ish x 2.03m) which is nice (that was the plan).
  4. That said I may need it this weekend....
  5. Or just clamp up some scrap wood as a guide and it will cut straight as an arrow
  6. What about a skillsaw that you can set the angle and has a runner so it will cut in a straight line (if the piece is straight to start with). I have a battery powered one which is fine for panels/thin stuff
  7. If its going to be interesting then go for it This section is a privilege for contributing oldschool members who share their old cars but may also have other interesting projects (think racecars, retro machinery, cool engineering etc) however, we don't really need to see every members boring daily so use some common sense please guys!
  8. So the little C20 introduced me to all the benifits of van life, but needed a little TLC and I decided I wanted a bigger van anyway. So passed that onto someone more capable than me, and snatched up this bad boy. 1897 Toyota Hiace with the big block 4y, 5 speed column shift, long wheel base. Has been owned by Barry (actual name) for 18 years and has been pretty well cared for. Resprayed (4 coats, always 4 coats on barrys cars) in its life as well as a rebuilt motor a few years back. After some minor speed bumps after first gettign it (faulty voltage reg, huge props to Seedy Al for helping me out there), and a bloody good clean, its a bloody pearler. Someone you will have seen my trick (if I do say so myslef) bed setup in the C20. Will likely do something simlar but not as cray cray as obviuosly this has much more room to start with. it already has a base built in so will probably use that as a starting point. End product will be split into two with storage under one or both sides. Current base is a bit longer than it needs to be so will shorten it a touch at the front as well. As hoped, our mountain bikes fit across the van floor in front of the bed (with front wheels off).
  9. If I was to do it again (which I may do for the new van, although perhaps not quite as trick) there are a few things I would do differntly (I was making it as I went) so happy to have a yarn after a few beersies and tell you all my trade secrets.
  10. fixed Oh wait wrong van. Sort your own dam pictures put. In all seriuosness, I dont ahve the photos anymore to fix (they were on my old phone). The beds still in the van so If you get desperate ask Al for some more pictures.
  11. New van is a 87 hiace (same shape as joes) but with less dents in it. 4y bigblock, 5 speed coloumn shift etc etc. Owened by a dude BArry (actual name) for the last 18 years. Rebuilt motor, resprayed etc etc, its pretty lush. New owner of old van.....some people know already but ill leave it up to him to reveal.
  12. The constant abuse and ridicule you guys give me got too much for me to handle. I have passed the van into the hands of someone who is more capable than I and will endevour to meet societies unresonable expections of how an individuals material possesions should be presented to please everyone but the individual themself. /it needed metal gluing. /I brought another van. Its a lwb, so for big kids like me. And its a big block, 2.2 yo. /xoxo
  13. Weekend mission from here with trailer? I'll come. /probably not worth the effort considering you have found toll can shift it.
  14. Haulplus/car distribution group which I used to get the gloria say 560 from whangarei to welly (not sure if they do non runners tho). Balance that against the cost of getting yourself up there, the bits you need back here, and then rid of the rest..... (not saying it's worth it, just that I was surprised how cheap it was to move cars around the country)
  15. Not if tipping it over is causing something to touch somethign it shouldnt be....does it splutter or just cut out and die? If it was carb related I would think it would be more of a splutter and die a slow death. /I no nothing about bikes.
  16. I'm getting old, minor hangover this morning. Not sure if it was the ribs or the beer...
  17. Because I don't care about your poor opinions. Everyone knows turbos are the way of the future
  18. Nearly Hanmer time which means another sick roady brah/wag lyfe. Needs a wof but should be sweet (Aye Rog....) In the meantime, I bought a turbo. Actually four of them. Steve will be proud. Need a good clean up/scotchpad polish and repaint but they were dirt cheap. Wonder if they will fit.... Abuse //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/41006-beavers-87-gloria-wagon/page-7
  19. Change of plan, movie night was a bust/not enough numbers. So will stick with beer and food. 1841 in J'vagas //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/53631-wellington-monthly-meet-18th-august-7pm-1841-johnsonville/
