  1. Yeap, well, the head gasket ain't sealing properly and she's losing compression from cyl. 4 into the water gallery. Fucksake. At least she made the Napier trip without too much problem (aside from drinking millions of water). So when I can be bothered the head will come off again so I can sus the problem. I've also gotta modify the new carbie and throttle linkage to fit as well. I really need to clear the shit out of my garage so I can start on the 5m-ge
  2. Finally got my head back today, its all nice and clean and unbent now. And now, a few hard out hours later it's back on the engine. IT WORKS!!! WOOOO!! It only took me, uh, 9 months? Fuck I'm useless, but it finally runs again! I haven't slept in 24 hours and I feel like complete crap, but at least the car goes. Tomorrow I gotta stick the bonnet back on and then take it in to get another muffler installed (stupid fucking volume restrictions ). And then hopefully it'll pass a wof. It also needs a hell of a good clean.
  3. Due to some motherfucking assholes who broke into my mates house while we were in town, I now have 4 kicked in doors, a dented rear quarter panel and a slightly rooted bonnet. Fuck some people deserve to bite the curb
  4. Haha ok, 3 months later and I finally took the head off. Fuck motivation. Fuck it hard. Anyway heres some pics of todays efforts. Epically blow'd up gasket My decapitated underwater 4M And some other crap in my garage Yep, so gonna get the head checked out before I chuck it back on. The head off my old 4M had a big crack discovered in it when I got it pressure tested, so I now have a hefty alloy paperweight. An expensive, alloy paperweight. Pressure testing ain't cheap.
  5. I've been plotting the same setup for my avenger. Ya can most probably bore the block out a tad and chuck some off-the-shelf toyota jobbie pistons in as well. Dunno if they need any mods to fit onto the conrods but thats what I've got in my engine. I think they are K series pistons, but I'm not too sure. They also may need a bit of machining to avoid sconning a valve (like mine did ) Other then that hunt down a better cam or get one made up, port the head a bit and maybe even chuck in some bigger valves and you'll be sweet
  6. I have no idea what flat and cross plane mean, but if ya can figure out the header lenths ya can make some weird sounds. Mate had an 80s civic with some hackjob headers making a weird brrBRAP *pause* brrBRAP *pause* noise. Sounded funny as. So if your talking bout what I think you are then yeah should be doable
  7. Same happened to mine. Supercheap jobbie? A good quality one should be all good, but those cheap ones don't work too well I got one of them fork ones now and it works rather alright. Didn't even maim the boot either which was nice. Never attempted the hammer method as I never had a suitable hammer, let alone 2 of them
  8. Upgrading the power wire from the alt to the battery isn't a bad idea either as it'll be putting out about twice the current over standard. I think the Lucas jobbies are only 34 Amps
  9. I spent a whole $10 on my start button. Sits under the dash and works sweet as. I took my ignition barrel off as I don't have a key for it.
  10. If ya get one of these, get a good quality one. My one snapped in half before the balljoint came apart
  11. Yowzer

    Spacers

Failing that ya can just get something machined up
  12. Yeah my commiewhore wags tows cars mint as. Unfortunally its blow'd up, but that ain't the point. It was free too I think they are pretty cheap aswell and have millions of room for stuff in the back
  13. So... Things I have done to this piece so far... Free'd up the clutch Installed a few gauges so I know what its doing Rigged up a sweet pushbutton ignition Stuck on a new door Slapped what little interior I have back into it Stuck in some semi-sealed headlights Got some new cheap as tires Possibly something else but thats all I remember for now The car at the moment Took it in for a WoF, it failed Needs... Rear brakes fixed Rust checked out brake light is dodgy FR Balljoint is fucked Ford 2L escort or capri drums bolt straight on and they are alot bigger, so I'm hunting some of them down for the rear, balljoints are 'no longer available' so I need to find a good parts car to raid Rust is an easy fix, as is the brake light So it'll hopefully have a wof soon
  14. Was rather. It worked, but I wouldn't really recommend it if you have another way of doing it
  15. Nah, had it sitting on the ground with handbrake on, clutch in, and just slammed it into gear. 1st try stalled the engine but second freed up the clutch.
  16. It actually free'd up easy as. I didn't have anything to tow it with so I just slammed it into reverse Worked on the 2nd attempt
  17. Sweet as, will give it a shot
  18. Ah ok, so whats the best way to fix that? Not keen on pulling it apart..
  19. Almost 3 years. So yeah.
  20. Ok, I have a slight problem with the hillman, the clutch won't disengage. Pedal feels the same as the other 2 avengers, but it ain't working. Any ideas why this might be, and how to fix it? Cheers
  21. Sweet, sorted the lack of pressure and got the bastard running Some more pics for your viewing pleasure Alpine engine Awesome surface rust (which I have no intention of fixing) The drivers side door is rusted and fucked, but fortunately the other doors are mint. I havent had a proper look over the car but it seems mostly rust free (aside from surface) And bottom hinge At least I have a spare door, in a slightly different shade of green And the yuck interior (or lack thereof) So now all I have to do is slap the door on, bolt the dash on and get some new tires and I should hopefully get a wof.
  22. Change of plans here. The above car is now gonna be a resto project, and will remain mostly factory. This car below will be my new track car. I can't be bothered creating a separate thread for it so both cars will live here. That there is a '75, has an Alpine engine, 4 speed manual box, heaps of no interior. We couldn't find the keys so I replaced the ignition barrel with a push button / switch. It has no boot lock but I have spare door locks. I also don't have the screws but I can't be bothered putting the interior back together anyway. It goes, it should be warrantable, although it still has a lack of oil pressure problem that I'm currently trying to sort out. Gonna build up the 1720cc engine and stick that in as soon as I can, and will hunt down a 5 speed box to go with it. More pics later when I can be fucked uploading them
  23. Sneaky edit here Heres some of the damage from the traffic island And I also have a new engine. Its a 1600 venger block bored out to 1720, has some form to toyota pistons, a grumpy cam of some description, lightened conrods, lightened flywheel, mitsi l300 clutch, and all balanced and stz. The guy who built it shaved a tad too much off the head so piston 3 collided with the valve, thus punching a hole in the piston and killing the head. Apparently shaving the head down isn't a good idea anyway as it fucks up the combustion chamber and ya lose airflow. So the plans for this engine is to replace the killed piston, find a good head, give it a port job, skim the block down a tad, slap on some twin 45's and chuck it in with a 5 speed. Progress is gonna be rather slow due to a large lack of funds though. I also have some hotwires Oh yeah and the gearbox is fixed and back in etc. Here it is looking nice and clean. While typing this, I'm actually sitting in the passenger seat of this car in my lounge. Till next time
  24. Well anyway, after forever and a day, I finally got the car back together and running. On 4 of the 6 cylinders anyway. So now I have to rip the engine apart again and replace the fucking head gasket Shits never easy.
