  1. cheers for the input guys - looks like I might have found someone who can import the correct gasket so should be all sorted.
  2. Like this but wood grain dark brown. A la supercustom stz.
  3. it's the left hand side in the photo, the new one's shape cuts in too sharp.. leaves a mm or two of oil gallery exposed. Another option is to plug/weld up the oil gallery and redrill to suit the new shape..
  4. So yeah, the little Subaru is still sitting in my driveway. Have determined that the head gasket I got was from a different series engine and did not quite cover the rear oil galleries. I asked a local engine re-conditioner to call his suppliers and source the correct model gasket, but they couldn't get them anymore. So I had this idea that I'd have a go running without a gasket at all. Will this work? I'm thinking I'd have to use a thin layer of silicone to seal the water and oil. Engine is a 2 cylinder, compression is 9.5:1 viewtopic.php?f=17&t=20786 What are your thoughts? Awesome? Stupid?
  5. Yeah tried it last night, was very difficult to pry the leaf into place once it was flipped. I gave up in the end as it was getting dark. Also it looked like it would foul on one of the brake cable holders.
  6. What about single leaf springs? What are my options for lowering?
  7. cheers for all the input guys, will try to take a better look at it this weekend
  8. Yeah it's a 2LTE. The glowplugs get power for about 10 seconds, then the car beeps and they turn off. I'll take some photos of the wire tomorrow as well.
  9. Sorry my bad, yeah must be a 2L-TE then..
  10. It's not a 1KZ.. it's a 3L (not 3 litre)
  11. Not blue, and it's not going through any oil. It's mainly sooty black, but when you rev it changes to white, then black. The manual says if injection timing is the problem then black indicates advanced timing, white = retarded, but it doesn't mention getting both black and white!
  12. My parents have a Hiace Supercustom with a 2L-TE Turbo Diesel. Me and my brother are getting it ready to go back on the road, it's been sitting since last summer. It was quite smoky when it was last running, especially on cold startup. We thought it might be the glowplugs, but after cleaning them up and testing them they seem sweet, and the engine is still smoky. It does clear up a bit once it's warmed up, but there's quite a bit when you race the engine. I understand that diesels ARE inherently a bit smoky, but would like to reduce it as much as poss. Workshop manual suggests injector nozzles or injector timing could be the problem. Neither of us have much turbo or diesel experience. Any ideas / suggestions appreciated. Also sorted out some of the wiring around the glowplugs as it's had the engine replaced at some stage and whoever did it did a very messy job. (eg twisted wires with elec tape) There is a thick cable going to the glow plug power rail, and then there is also a light gauge cable going to the same rail. What does this little cable do? Seemed to start and run ok without it but I'd like to know what it does. Anyone know? Will try to get photos tomorrow. thanks!
  13. Took the van to work on thursday and it overheated on the drive home. Water was spraying out from right in the middle of the radiator core. So this morning I put in some radiator stop leak and that seemed to sort it out. Also today I replaced the intake/exhaust and the rocker cover gaskets. I wish I had of done it earlier! I didn't realise quite how much the exhaust manifold was leaking - no wonder it sounded like a kombi! Nice and quiet now and no more feeling sleepy on long drives. While I was at it I painted the rocker cover. White! It's already dirty. Surprise surprise. Want to have a play at lowering soon - need new U bolts (although might just flip a leaf), and would like a spare set of front coils if anyone knows of a van (or truck) wrecking somewhere.
  14. put some sort of comic/graphic novel style vinyl on the roof and spoiler! photoshop tiem...
  15. Any places to recommend for head work - mainly planing, maybe also cleaning and crack testing. Needs to be in Onehunga/Penrose area. FANKS
  16. Bodacious weekend - thanks Lee for being my hero, thanks to you bloody good cunts that helped with the fine. Was very much appreciated. Didn't get any more fines personally, but did break down 10 minutes from home on the motorway with no shoulder. SEE YOUS AT WAGNATS
  17. I don't know what wilf's is but bits would be OFF THE HOOK especially window rubbers, weather strips, maybe a dissy?
  18. I HAVE A WOF !! ! ! ! and rego too so I've been cruising around in the weekend. Drives pretty good but the brakes are a bit scary in the wet - the back locks up pretty easy.. ok new paint plan (or rather, vinyl print) how say you, savages?
  19. cheers, good to have lots of recommendations. I'm trying to do this on the mega cheap, but like most things it's probably better to invest a bit more if i want to get lots out of it. Might have to put it on the GE card
  20. thought the power settings might be on this: but I don't know how to decipher it..
  21. Looking to buy a mig welder and learn to weld. Spied a cheap one on trademe that needs the lining replaced which seems to be a pretty straightforward job: http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing ... =323685413 But would this model be ok for bodywork? Does it go low enough for thin panel steel? Any advice would be excerrent, I don't know much about this stuff but am keen to learn!
  22. +1 Graham the Hiace, possibly with one Nikki the dog. Keen to CONVOY incase I break down / burst into flames.
  23. Hell yes. Maybe we should look at doing this on Saturday arvo? Maybe round 3 or so? Bike in and round town, maybe drop into burger fuel on our 2 wheeled devices and cause a fuss there. sweet, I'm bringing my bike. Lee can I park my van on your lawn eah?
