  1. And theres like 1 billion bolt on parts for the 350's so getting more power is relativly cheap
  2. That looks SO good boe. What a mint panel job!! Awesome choice. Be wicked to see this car out being driven!!
  3. Thanks boes. I read somewhere that teh W57/58s have stronger input shaft bearings or something. But i much perfer the ratios of teh W55, except top. The W58 has the best over drive, like .73:1 or someting = 100k at 1800rpm!!!. I also need the front most shifter position. Which are hard to find. So, to clarify, you guys reckon a w55 will be up to it? They're alot cheaper and alot more readily available Thanks boe, The price has crept up over the years. When i bought mine the were basically giving them away. Now theyre expensive as. If you do get one do NOT get a pre HE. '75-'81. They make less power and use WAY more fuel. They are cheaper tho.And they have shit looking bumpers (big rubber ones like MGBGT's had). And you cant retrofit the chrome HE ones. Unless they are off an american car. But they still stick out heaps cos of dumb frontal impact stuff
  4. Everything associated with the v12 is extreeme! Sparkplugs take 3 1/2 hours to change etc (didn't have the proper jaguar tool to get the middle ones, so all fuel rails off FTL). Roffle at having to get 4 sets of throttle bodies instead of 1. Its expensive fun But yea. Once its running i'll definitely try 12 ITBs. It will just look cool Will get this on road first. Then finish fronte. Then experiment... Thats good news . I dont really want a weak box. How else am i meant to do PHAT skidz then boe?
  5. It does look pretty good in the flesh. (the color that is). The car Itself is quite ferral. It was the first time i ever did any boging so its a bit wavey here and there. And the shut lines are horriffic. I replaced the drivers door, so that was to be expected, but the passenger door its pretty bad. And the painters fucked up the bonnet so there are some weird lines in the metallic (or it was my block sanding, i dont think it was though) Will get it (the bonnet) repainted when i can afford. Have to get the quards repainted too as the paint is all chiped off when the guards were semi rolled. Will call in there tomorrow and ask around. Would probably want "jaguar" prices for it tho Would be pretty cool doing 12 throttle bodies. Alot of work tho, as there a 12. Would be 1million times better than standard jaguar setup. Jaguar engineered the intakes to be ultra quiet/restrictive so grandad could woft along in silence. Ive heard mixed reviews about the W5x gearboxes. Some people say they are really strong. Some people say the torque kills them quite quickly. My wallet says use a W5x tho Would idealy want a R154 or something, but that = expensive!
  6. Thanks boes. Just the info i needed
  7. At the end of the day, theyre just an old car all be it overly complex old car. but thats what haynes manuals are for . The parts cost lots tho Which makes it a slow project. 12 throttle bodies would be kick ass. Im also keen to do a six 45IDA webber V12. But not on xjs. Not enough space in engine bay
  8. Lol, space is at a bit of a premium in the xjs tho And they dont handle too bad either. Standard suspension = ultra luxurious. There is minimal body roll. Some stiffer springs and a few shims here and there and this block of british steel should be able to take corners , maby The gear box will be by far the weakest part of the car after the conversion. So i will have to nanny it/nah
  9. Chur. Ands its a little worse on fule/oil costs as the fronte With the added joy of not noticing hills Ive already used a bit of that . Some mean smoke with the electric windows. And half of my tail light loom doesnt work no more. I'll have to order some The car that put me onto the jag v12s was an red '78ish xj12 with a vinyl roof. And lowered to buggery - was a race car. 450bhp. Sounded SO good but still looked like you needed a cheesecutter and tweede coat
  10. Hey boe. My Link doesnt have a TPS. Its just runs of crank angle sensor, MAP and temp. I do want to connect up the TPS at some stage but the motor runs fine without it. I dont see how it does but it does
  11. Hey boes. The jaguar Aj6 motor form the xj40(1987-1993) was a way better engine. DOHC with 4 valves per cyl. could easily make 300bhp from 3.2 or 3.6 Ls and still return 30 MPG = tuff. You can also get about 275bhp out of a tripple carb 3.6 Xk 6 motor, like in the e-types. However, V12 is mean. Its got 12 pistons! Thats very cool IMO. The H.E engines pump out 300bhp and 440Nm of torque. Not too flash for 5.3l. Theres not many v12 cars out there. And the v12 sounds REALLY cool with a good exhaust. Really howls. Been reading about many people doing manual conversions and say that it really opens up the car. The auto is pretty restricting. Raced dads at taupo in only seccond gear the boot is HUGE. you could fit about 5 fronte motors in the boot. Seriously This was the car that inspired me to get my licence. Saw the jag club in town and was like WTF is that car? Jumped on trademe and found that they wernt expensive at all. After alot of looking dad bought one. I learnt to drive in it. Soon as i drove it it was like "I GOT to have one of these" so i bought that rolling shell and the rest is history. Although i have been distracted by other cars in the meantime. Ive suddenly got all my enthusiam back to finish it
  12. Got this bad boy 4 years ago. It doesnt really fit in with the jaguar/european car clubs cos its a bit ferral. But Oldschool seems accepting of all types of car so i will post it now. It was my first car. I havn't driven it yet . Bought it red. Took all the paint (and bog) off with 3m disks FTL. It didnt come with an engine either. I found a rusted out 88 shell with a good motor. Had the H.E. V12 (High Efficiency, 8Km/l instead of 5km/l ) put that in. Got a link v3 ECU and wired that up. Got it running to find that the auto was fucked . So its been lying dorment for the last 2 years (Been distracted by frontes). Waiting for a supra manual conversion. I found some 17x10" mags with 275/50s on them. Had to get some adapters made up. All this would need certing so i wanted to wait till i did manual conversion and cert it all at once. I bought a bellhousing a year or so ago. Just need flywheel and stuff now. Which i am in the process of doing. Should be quite a fun car to drive when its done. 5300cc of v12 coupled to a 5spd manual. Should sound and go mint!!, theyre pretty fast as an auto. The Donor car: The car as i bought it. Paint strip under way: There was no rust . Just very non strait panels After Alot of work off to get top coat put on: Back with top coat on. Holden metallic purple. Also got some chrome bumpers for it. The "Pre H.E." cars had lame as rubber ones. Rather expensive tho: And the mags, meaty slabs of rubber. I'd hate to buy new tyres!!: Needs way lowering. I had it lowered by jag mechanic but his low wasnt my low (if you know what i mean Last of all i cleaned up the engine. Was covered with greace and paint. Now its just 400kgs of clean aluminium: Will update as i complete stages of my manual conversion. Will try and get it finished by the next trackday!
  13. I am very close to ordering a flywheel now. They come drilled to take an 10.5" e-type pressure plate. Would i be able to use a 10.5" clutch plate from say a hilux or someting (that fits a W series supra tranny) with this e-type pressure plate? Or can you only use clutch plate with its designated pressure plate?
  14. Hey Boe. How did you go about tuning your link? Did you just road tune it?
  15. Thats tuff. Wheels look choice. More dish would be nice but meh. Looks good as it is. So gangsta (yakuza stz)
  16. Not yet boe. Trumpy = my steed. Left ignition FTW. Pretty much every time i get in i go to put the keys in the wrong side Oh and by the way (off topic hard) but your matty b merc looked SO tuff. Love that interior. mean burgandy
  17. Man this thing is sorted! Reading through the list of things done = drool. This is going to be SERIOUSLY quick. Won't it be hard to find 100 octane all the time? Looks pretty good in the flesh too, matty B roof FTW Awesome mini boe
  18. Twas fucking awesome watching bizzo and gaz roll in to the weighstation - bounce bounce bounce. Was Roffles! Made my day. Fully, looks mean as with all the rust streaks etc
  19. I love mint originals. And this is definatly MINT and original. What an awesome car. Love it!!
  20. The jag v12 weighs about the same and is about half the size of the fronte! Thanks for that link CaM. Will give them a bell. Also:
  21. No particular reason for alloy. Just didnt know where to look for getting flywheels made up in NZ. A google search came up with this place in USA that specialise in alloy jaguar flywheels. Do you know of any places in nz that could make one up? 400 sounds alot better than 700
  22. No, but thats probably a really good idea. I'll ask them Thanks for suggestion
