  1. 28 days = Saturday. Probably wont have seats by then. Have been for one recheck but he wants more indepth rust work on pillar. (Got a different guy from the first test...) Passed on brakes, tyres, other rust. Real busy at work this week and weather is sh** for fixing rust outdoor. Going to try and get the rust fixed by the weekend if I can get the time but otherwise will need recheck anyway.
  2. Sweet. Let me know when. Probably easier to do the whole thing for extra room. Would be cool also to retain the strengthing ribs off the original tunnel top and weld them into the new one. With the size of sheet steel we have also may be easier to make it in three parts. Hmm, this should be in your build thread...
  3. Haha. Yeah, rear brakes were pretty much perfect. We're binding a bit on the way there tho so maybe a little tight. They will wear in pretty quick. Got the seats from some guy in Tauranga who contacted me through my trademe ad. Good that they are black and pretty good condition as I shouldn't have any trouble with WOF's. Just got to find a blowtorch to bend the two other brackets into shape. Time to do wing/scuttle repairs. You cutting your tunnel out tonight? I could bring around my grinder and thin cutting discs to make it easier. Ill drill out spotwelds/start on my wing if it stops raining....
  4. Ok. Update time. Been slack with this one. Escort has been for a WOF and failed on 3 bits of rust, seats need cert, balance rear brakes and switch rear tyres side for side. So, sorted 2 bits of rust (drivers floor, rear pillar) - Just got front wing/a pillar to sort. Low'n'slow balanced my brakes up good as and switched tyres. Seats, pretty much cant use them without a cert so have bought two originals. I will probably keep the bucket seats and try and get them to work more like the originals. So its getting close but stupid WOF man wanted a panel beater to fix the small bit of rust... so probably going to fix it myself and take it for a new WOF somewhere else once this one goes past its 28 days. Anyway, only got pics of seats with me but will update soon enough. Also tuned it up with new plugs so its running well and chose paint colour.
  5. Welcome Check out 105speed.com for information. There is a link on that site to the Milton catelogue which has an explaination on what struts etc you should use. It seams the biggest problem is the fact Anglias have a steering box as opposed to a rack so they clout all kinds of stuff when you change engines. Also, as said above, start a build thread and let us know what part of the country you are in incase anyone can help you out. Nick
  6. Austin Princess is the easy way to go. I just thinking minis here as they only go up to 13' wheels. Maybe have a look at MG Metro 4 Pots (vented and non-vented), or Mini (8.4 inch disc) calipers. Or just fork out for HISpec or Burton from the UK, but that aint in the sprit of this forum really... or as Low'n'Slow will suggest, just put a rota in it...
  7. Figured I could just make up a name and tell a mate that if someone rings talk some shit. Only 2 weeks till I have to get a whole new test anyway which might be easier if I take it somewhere else if im not done by then. Will see what it is like to remove the wing/go sus it out. I am happy welding it myself as it isnt actually that bad I dont think... (will wait and see).
  8. So. Took the escort for a WOF and need to fix some rust in the A piller/inner wing. Anal WOF man says he wants it done by a panelbeater and for them to sign it off. Ive read up on it and if I do it myself and get a suitably qualified person to sign it off I should be sweet. I am probably going to remove the wing to fix it. Anyone on here willing to sign it off for me? I could just get a mate to fake it but would prefer not to have to resort to this. Also, he said that you can't spotweld repairs. Does this mean that if I take the wings off, which were origianlly spotwelded on, im gonna have to seam weld them back on... If so thats just stupid.
  9. Copper Nickel is all sweet. Used it on my mini. Its just that straight copper has a short fatigure life and cracks.
  10. Main things I found with Chirs' carb: Put new o-rings on the adjusting screws and anywhere else they are (real little o rings) Dont use gasket goo anywhere Check all of your jet sizes as they are probably all mixed up. Also make sure they are all in the right places. Don't eat the carb cleaner. I know it smells like lollies but it won't taste like them too... I took a whole evening rebuilding Chris' carb but in the end it was worth it. Nick
  11. To test relay. Put power over switching terminals and see if it clicks/contiunuity test over switched terminals. 9V battery should have it clicking.
  12. "That rust stuff the goes black when it goes off" is like this: http://www.totalbodyshop.co.nz/product_ ... ucts_id=31 Put this on the rusty bits. Then etch prime it on the bare areas. Clean/degrease/rough up the existing areas of old paint/underseal. Spray on underseal/stonechip like this over everything: http://www.totalbodyshop.co.nz/product_ ... ts_id=1203 And then with cetain types of underseal you can also paint on top if you want a different colour than underseal black.
  13. Yeah. Not many people say this but... Im not a fan of POR15. Probably be good on suspension parts etc but its just that.. If you get it on your skin it will stain you for weeks. If you get it in the lid grove on the tin it will seal the tin solid. You have to apply if with a brush which ain't the best. And its not UV stable so if its going to be exposed to UV you have to overcoat it. If I was you I would do the underbody, firstly clean it up. Then rust treat it with that rust stuff that forms a hard black layer when it goes off. Then seam seal down seams. Then paint with a chassis paint & underseal with spray on underseal. Ive been looking in to it for my Escort. Will post up when I get around to doing it. Interior, Just clean up and paint with a good black paint/rust treat rusty bits.
  14. I will try and get to Metalworx after work tonight if I can. Will bus to Tory Street and mish up there...
  15. Yeah, after 5 would be very helpful. Or if they would take an order over the phone and leave it out to be picked up... May have to just leave work at lunchtime tomorrow if possible, or start mega early..
  16. Does anyone know of or recommend any places in Wellington to get flat bar, tube etc from. Im looking for small quantities to make some seat mounts. Looking at around 80mmx5mm x 1m length, 40mmx5mm x 1m length, some 30mm OD tube and some similar sized or slightly smaller round bar. Cheer
  17. Dumb. It was too windy for mine so they are all blury....
  18. Mean man. Good to hear its got so much better. Are we going to do a gearbox the week before the wedding? Or the week before trackday? Post pics from yesterdays cruise....
  19. Haha. Better just throw the whole car away then.... Im mean, nah, nah its all sweet as..
  20. Mk1Mad

    tramp bars

Found these on Turbosport this morning. Im thinking of making up some in the future.
  21. Solved. Fit a new condensor, clean the points (they are brand new). Engine started, now just need to tune. Exhaust is loud tho so will need an extra muffler. Cheers for all the suggestions.
  22. Just tested again. About 12V on one and 0.3 on the other. I have tried another coil so it aint the coil I figure. I should at least have a small spark but I dont have any.
  23. Problem to Solve Mk1 Escort 1600 X-Flow I have fuel to the carb. I have power to the starter and it turns over well. I have 12V onto both sides of the coil. I have no spark direct from the coil lead. I have switched the coil with a known good one and still no spark. What am I missing.....
  24. Haha. Will have it on the road as soon as finances (and building Gazza's Cortina) allow. Chris, there seams to be one extra spot on you lawn that needs an escort... Got a new condensor to try tonight, if it is the right one as there were quite a few different ones.
  25. So. I get this text from a mate who's brother has this Mk1 Escort. Its been sitting on their driveway for a few years after her brother went overseas and never came back.
