  1. Sweet- cheers. I'll try a local friend here as I think he might have something but yeah- why pay almost new prices for shitty second hand. There must be a fair few out there still running this size eh? Maybe not.
  2. Ha ha! Yeah I remember your camper! Cool photo! Just minutes prior to passing you I had been overtaken by some idiot in a new car who juust couldn't bare sitting behind an 'old slow car'.. (because all old cars are slow right..) Even though I had been sitting on the speed limit he still overtook me and then preceded to drive really slowly on the fun twisty bits. So next chance I got I went to overtake him and the idiot sped up! No worries..I just buried the throttle and left him and his Mitsitoydatda corolla or something in my wake. But now he was pizzed off and wanted to sit on my tail which wasn't gonna happen. Just where the above photo was taken I was busy canning it in 3rd to show him my heels. ;D Funny thing was I actually had some preignition up the hill at full boost. I'll copy and paste what I had written up on my oldschool forum thread the other day rather than write the whole lot out again!... Been away to Blenheim to visit the cats. Loaded the Viva up with lots of stuff and Hannahs little sister who's over visiting from the UK. Car went really well. I've been looking forwards to the trip especially driving up over the Whangamoas but sadly I soon caught up to a queue behind a big truck and he wouldn't pull over. The car is definitely running better and cheaper since having adjusted the timing plus I think the excessive toe in would have scrubbed off some speed? Gave the engine bay a clean. One little vent I have not put a hose on had put a fine mist of oil over some parts. New engine mounts holding up good. Oil usage is very low and rather than burning anything I think its a tiny weep from around the oil level sensor on the sump. Took some photos the other night as I want to try to get it featured in the local paper regular car thing they do. I got Hannah to pose but I think I'm more of a natural at the old car show look... Got back to Nelson tonight after another good run except when under full boost passing this camper up a hill in 3rd I had what I think was detonation? It was fast loud banging/flapping sound? Like someone was smacking the firewall really quickly with a rolled up news paper is about how I would describe the sound. It was at about 5500/6000 rpm. Didn't look at the wideband when it happened as I was watching the road etc. Car pulled fine but had me worried, picturing tips flying out the exhaust.. Its still set a 1/4 turn lean on the carb as far as the old lifting pin goes but when cruising along on the flat the wideband reads bang on 14.5- 15. Maybe I should err on the richer side... but the plugs.. read next bit.. Refilled and car had returned 27mpg! I'm happy with that. Pretty sweet for a loose as, whacked together 12a with turbo and carb. Checked plugs and they are dark brown/black. Not oily but definitely running rich. I have fitted new standard 12a rated NGK iridium plugs. I wonder if I should go hotter? What's the usual thing done when adding a turbo to a NA engine with regards to plug ratings?

  4. How far out from the +/- 5% can you go before most cops care? I guess depends on how busy or anal they are? Looking good anyhow- in that last photo, the sign 'fence stain' with your fence stained boot lid...
  5. i think its a sunbeam then. I actually prefer the standard single lights and the standard body shape. That little hatch makes a small car just that much more usable!
  6. I remember meeting a fella at the west coast Ford weekend, westport, 2006 who turned up in a not yet road legal mk1 coupe with an essex v6. Same year I met a young fella top of columbo street who was building a mk1 coupe with same engine. He was a big time fan of classic ford magazine and would have styled his in a similar way to yours. I wonder if this is one of those cars? I built a cage similar to that in my late 90's 2.3 chevette project and I had done equally shit welding! Embarassing looking back. I was refused a cert until I removed it as my cert man was not happy with the welding stating that there was no way it would have got a manz ticket. Shit it was a prick to remove as I had well and truely welded it in. Many many grinding discs later.....
  7. Your a very naughty boy. Stop it now. The Triumph needs to stay and on top of that it needs the steels fitting! Stop tempting him...
  8. Oh- well anyway I just sent them a price request saying I had a mate who got toyos for 110 each. Interesting to see what reply I get....
  9. $110 for Toyos. I ring em!. How long ago was that Andrew?
  10. Cool- imps in nelson! there is a lovely Stilletto? (twin headlights) in Blenheim too.
  11. Yeah I have tried Cul8r but first off I want tosee if I can get second hand ones. But they seem like rocking horse pooh in this size....
  12. Can anyone help? Secondhand tyres in above size needed for my Viva. The second hand Toyos I had fitted are wearing out quick plus one front one was stuffed form too much positive camber. I have rotated them but it wont last long on the back..... I'm hoping someone might have something to suit. Just two tyres needed for now. I have tried U save tyres in Nelson but he wants damn near new tyre prices for second hands!... cheers all.
  13. Don't go to Elite unless you want to wait ages. Check out Royce Clive engineering instead.
  14. Which show? must hook up! I'd like some photos of my Viva nest to an Imp or two, them being from similar period etc. This Warwick. Will he finish them or not?
  15. cool. Will possibly be the next car.. One day.. Any imps you know of in nelson?
  16. I want another Imp again. Hannah's first classic was a Imp and it was so sweet. Were there many imps sold in NZ an how much would you expect or should pay for a nice rough but road legal runner? When hannah bought hers in 2002 they were really cheap in England. I think she paid 400 quid taxed and tested. Colour was Prarie wind. Head gasket failed immediately but we got another engine good for 100 quid. So easy to remove the engines! I remember the Imp club being very friendly. We would get about 5-8 Imps along on monthly Oxford area Imp club meets. In 2006 we saw a beautiful light blue Imp van parked up near the Chch airport hangers. Looked wicked. Would love a van.
  17. Go see Shane at Chch radiators on Buchan street. Tell him Alex with the Viva sent you. He's a top bloke and I'm sure will match/better any price for ya plus he loves old cars (Vivas in particular...)
  18. The tow bar on our 1987 4wd Hiace has 1200kg stamped on it just below where it has Hiace stamped.
  19. Missed this meet as I didn't check the thread My fault. Will be up for next meet hopefully. Or if i hear of other meets that can be linked together I'll post em up. I know the Nelson Mr2 club and Vauxhall club do lots of meets together! Its because the mr2 club secretary is also well into old vauxhalls Strange mix I know...
  20. If you ever lack the Mojo man just go outside, hop into car and turn on the lights. Then turn on that little light above radio. result.. mojo back. Job done. This car is so cool. I think its ugly as fuck but its so cool with that. All the extra little things all add up to making one very choice ride. I say leave it standard as. Put the steels back on, buy them hubcaps and just cruise in the coolest way possible. Chill and enjoy a good summer cruising. Cheers for both you and Sheepers swinging by and chilling out. Your top dudes. We totally forgot to show you guys the glow worms! Ask Prozac about them as we had showed them when through the week before.
  21. whats that sunshine thing going on? nelson doesn't have that?
  22. and did you know... 'The Fuego was the first car in the world to have a remote keyless system with central locking that was available from the 1983 model year' Thanks wiki...
