  1. Is there an OS friendly alignment place in chch that is still open? The one I usually go to is in the cordon/was not that friendly.
  2. http://www.velo-ideale.com/components.php?type=21 in CHCH, re rim it.
  3. ^^ Sweet as pie, I am in love with small hondas right now, so by definition you are awesome.
  4. The problem will almost certainly be the switch on the steering column, they have all the current flowing through them and burn out the contacts. This happened to me at night on a twisty road in the coromandel once. I would bet almost any money that this is the root of the issue.
  5. I know a Russian chick, I will ask. For all I know your suggestion will make it read 'PenisFace'
  6. haha, I am an engineer and I seriously dig the Russian engineering ethos, so I thought it would be appropriate. I can't speak Russian tho, just ripped it off google translate Surprised it was legible tbh
  7. I have some telescopic ones you can have if you want + all the different parts you would need. No leading link ones spare sorry...
  8. So the wheels are sorted (thanks be to CUL8R = GC) It fell off that bench during the earthquake, I gave it a jiggle that morning and thought 'might be an aftershock...? who gives a fuck it'll be sweet'. It munted the handlebar/speedo mount, but that will come out with a bit of 'smack-O-hammer'. Fortunately it completely missed the Fiat in it's travels. The tyres are $29 trade me specials, I hold no great hope for their wear, handling, grip or roundness abilities. They do have the major advantage of being black, holding air and being within the build budget. I had to redo many spokes on the rear wheel with spokes from one of my other spare rims, that was a bit of a mission.. I cut the rust out of the bottom of the petrol tank thinking it was just an outer skin. It wasnt, so I spent the next hour laying down fat ugly weld over the edges of the patch until there were no leaks. This is extremely lumpy and ugly so I will solve the problem by covering it with paint.
  9. So I need to replace the front control arms on my car as the ball joints are a bit dodgy... you need to replace the whole arm or get someone like HBI Engineering to redo them, which costs a good chunk of money... I have bought a spare set of arms which I was going to get HBI to rebuild but they actually seem to be in pretty good condition, and they look like they have either been painted/rebuilt or have been recently replaced - who knows really.. So anyway, I have checked both by trying to lever the socket out of the arm with a crowbar, both have no discernible movement when doing this. Is there a better/more accurate gauge of the condition? Thanks...
  10. So I have just gone through the low volume cert regulations for this (again), and for an unstressed seat there is a defined loading that the seat must withstand. This tells me that to make the seat more deformable is not a go. We run Solidworks at my business so I think I will model the whole thing and do some FEA on it to make sure it conforms to the regulations etc...
  11. To get anywhere near close enough using a standard race seat I would need to cut the floor out and weld in a new lower one - people have done this even on X1/9 road cars to get the extra space. I have fitted up a very low kevlar race seat to the existing rails, but it still means I need to have the roof off if I want to wear a helmet. The rails are already welded directly to the floor (from factory) to give more room, but this obviously isn't enough - my existing race reat setup probably would't be a problem for a short arse, but I am 6'3"... If I could find a suitable steel framed seat I could modify it to suit but I have been looking for a year now and not found the right one. I probably would be happy to lower the floor and get this certed, but this seems overkill for the 1 or 2 times a year I do track days. The way I see it, club days are not very serious, with no full on racing - and if it is ok to go out on the track with my standard seats that have 30 odd years of wear and amazing lack of support, then I am far better off with the new seat anyway.....? PS - I appreciate the contructive criticism....
  12. It all costs money though of which I am epically short of at the moment. I am only going to be using it for track days and as long as you have a warrant no one cares what you are sitting in..
  13. yea, you might be right. Although if I weld sheetmetal into it then that will make it super stiff anyway. hmm that wont make the joints any stronger tho so a fair call.
  14. smeary pic of where it is at Has been half assed wirebrushed then had 2 coats of brushed on housepaint - makes for a mean texture I have so much other shit to sort out for now that I cant be fucked with the rake and swingarm extension, will look at that when my other insurmountable problems are solved. my air conditioned helmet
  15. So there is another track day coming up with the Canterbury Fiat Lancia club. Last year I used a kevlar race seat which was good and supportive but this wasn't low enough to let me have the roof on while wearing a helmet which sucks quite badly. I have been looking around for a year for something that will do the trick, including looking at getting one of my existing seats modified to be lower and more supportive, but it was all difficult and/or expensive. So i though fuck that, why don't I just build one, then I can make sure it is as low as possible within the space that I have. Not too worried about the legalities as I will probably never use it on the road, and I can make it suit my awesomely chunky arse as well. Still got a couple of bits to tack on yet - extra bracing between the hip and shoulders, and probably a couple of bits by the thigh. I will no doubt pull out of shape a bit when it gets fully welded, but as I have done it all pretty much by eye then meh. Initial indications are that I will have a spare 50mm or so above my helmet so yay. Not sure whether to tack in some thin steel for the actual seaty bit, or pop rivet some ally sheet. Probly just velcro some padding straight on to whatever that ends up being.
  16. Fuck if I could find a shield like that I would put it on... Have done progress on this, engine is nearly back together and frame has been stripped and painted. The entire front hub brake cavity was totally filled with grease for some peculiar reason so need brake shoes too. I have an epically stupid looking helmet already, also massively illegal probly, I will show it to you if you talk nicely edit, I have been looking for a wee headlamp like that for a while, please supply.
  17. So we are having another 'build something aws for nix' competitions at work, this time it is a sub 125cc motorbike with a $500 budget... so I bought 3 CT90's with 2 engines for $100 off TM. I then realised the engines weren't that flash so bought another bottom end for another $100 and am using the 3 engines to build one goodun, but not looking all that flash at the mo, plus no guarantee that the gearbox or bottom end is any good, but fuck it. I have stripped and wirebrushed the frame and cut back the rear guard so far. I will probably extend the rear swingarm and give the head a wee bit of rake.... Going to need a fair bit more stuff though, rectifier/brake lever/carb/rear sprocket/battery/tyres/chain/piston rings/etc etc... I would like to think that it will be legal at some point, fuck knows how tho. And it will end up sort of like this except an infinity less blue and shiny;
  18. its all good, I found one. Last time I did it I found the greatest difficulty was getting rid of the half mm step in the bores, quite frankly getting a nice pattern was of secondary importance...
  19. please please beers in it for you.... PM me the loving
  20. Let Chris tell you about ginga schoolgirl loving, quite frankly he will go up in your estimation.
  21. Have just bought this off tm, too scared to tell the wife yet. Think I will need to sell the BSA/single speed/both to mollify her.
  22. Thats the one, watched it recently/senility is obviously been setting in
  23. You have obviously watched 'into the blue' one too many times...
  24. Sweet vid showing the epic handling capabilities of the W124 wagon; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K-DwptBgvFU&feature=player_embedded I assume that they buffed off the soot and drove it for another 60000000kms
