  1. Sealer itself doesn't crack, just the paint on top. I'm not worried about water getting past the sealer, it just looks horrible when the paint turns to shit on top.
  2. Pretty crap pic but you can see where the top of guard is sealed against the other panel What's the best way to stop paint cracking in these joins? I don't want to weld the panels on. I figuered my best bet was to cut the sealer as low as possible and por15 over top to prevent rust if water pools in the join. What have others done?
  3. Never owned an ls400 myself, but aren't they quite heavy even compared to an mx83? mx83+1uz+w57 with a few susp mods would be much more fun imo, and probably easier to convert to manual? ls400s aren't exactly exciting in the looks department either, I'd have a gs300/aristo over one for sure opinions etc, I think this will be sweet as fuck for a daily
  4. It doesn't strip the chrome, just the rust, it probably won't come out mint, but a little polish after might help?
  5. boiling shit in lemon juice is also another good one (good for cleaning carbs)
  6. Has anyone used interior paint to completely change the colour of their fabric seats? Does this shit last and is it any good?
  7. Rotary. Thanks for the info, the Mirka stuff didn't seem to get any shine so I went for the turtle wax which I guess is quite harsh. Do you mean polish names confuse Alistair? c20 is the harshest from Mirka I think, f05 is quite fine. c20 didn't shine up like the turtle wax. I'll try the #81 stuff with a foam pad (flat or waffle type?) I don't understand why the Mirka stuff isn't working for me very well though? 9 hours? I think I'm a bit impatient
  8. Paint is a few months old now, would have been 4 weeks before I started polishing. My lambswool pad is pretty old but hasn't had lots of work. I have some of those foam pads too, what's best to use? I had 1500 trizac and I used the 2500 abralon after that, I had quite a few pigtails That pic is after doing it by hand, few deep pigtails and shit left but it's a lot better, just dull, swirly and ugly
  9. So.. I bought some fancy trizac and abralon pads, cut the clear back and polished with some mirka c20, then f05 I think, followed by Lwax. Swirl marks galore and bugger all shine, made sure I had clean water etc.. So.. Did it by hand with 1200-1500-2000 then turtle wax rubbing compound Much better! it's much more shiny, but once it's in certain light it looks terrible So.. I thought fuck this, lets ask OS! Wow this looks good! *rolls car out of shed* Fuck!... Why am I so shit? Edit: only above the trim has been done, you'll notice the bottom half looks normal
  10. All comes down to what you prefer? 4k sounds steep for ecu and tune, is that to be wired in as well? I imagine a warm 308 would make 250-280hp? With an aftermarket ecu on an rb30 I think you could make a fair bit more with a good turbo setup and even more with the DET conversion, but I'm not sure how hard/expensive that is. What turbo you running?
  11. I don't really know tbh? I've seen a few square plenums before, but I just thought people avoided them cause they aren't as pretty
  12. Solder and heat shrink that shit. Even better is to de-pin the plug and re-pin into the other one, if it's long enough.
  13. Almost 2 years since an update! Been piecing the engine together slowly this week, started making a front facing plenum from some scrap I got at work, pretty basic design
  14. What engine you putting in? You should start a project thread with some pics Cause Z10s are epic
  15. http://technotoytuning.com/productdetail.php?p=824 So 220nzd + shipping, which shouldn't be excessive
  16. Yep all 3 holes need to be re-drilled if using S13 etc, if you're spending 300 bucks on camber plates, just order X7 T3 ones and they'll bolt straight up.. IIRC x8 LCAs are longer, search jzxproject.com to find out what the deal with those are, as I can't remember. (might be talking shit lol?)
  17. Do these have the same front struts as X7? If so T3 sell camber tops, I seen some guy selling universal/un-drilled tops on trademe last week Or just use cheap as chips S13 ones or some shit and re-drill your car to suit?
  18. Also, what car is it going into?
  19. Make all your own shit, otherwise it's fucking expensive. Use the cheaper W series box rather than R series Maybe cut and shut an auto bellhousing if you can weld ally or know someone that can do it cheap. I did a fair bit of research when doing my conversion and didn't come across anyone re-drilling flywheels from another series. If you can find a 5 speed jza80 being wrecked, you could probably get the whole lot cheaper I'd imagine. (easiest option, but might take ages to find one) I did mine the expensive way due to the car being my daily/impatientness 650ish for new bellhousing 550ish for new exedy sport clutch kit 400ish for new CNC flywheel W55 for 400ish You could do it for under half of that if you have plenty of time to find cheap bits and can make stuff yourself. JZ shit ain't cheap Maybe of interest? http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-par ... 767296.htm
  20. Bye bye old wires! Bit of soldering, heat shrink and tape. Much tidier + heater wired up Discussion viewtopic.php?f=18&t=24783&start=20
  21. Cheers man, engine seems to go ok, only problem being a bit of smoke on start-up (valve stem seals?) The wiring was a bit scary looking, but wasn't all that bad to tidy up in the end. I still think I've spent way too much time on such a heap of shit
  22. 1GGZE is actually a fun little engine, and sounds pretty sweet (at least from the drivers seat) But that's also comparing it to a tired old 1jz-ge in a slightly heavier car, with a rattly muffler that sounds like crap lol When it's turbo, it may be a different story but I'm still saving Edit: I've already taken it for a sneaky spin when I put the LSD in
  23. Todays episode is brought to you buy the letter S, for fucking SUCCESS!! Only a test, but the heater control is now working, just need to route it back through the firewall and put a proper plug on the loom and hook up vacuum hoses Ended up figuring it out with a multimeter, Cressida loom was different, which made it harder to work out. Pretty stoaked with todays progress though, even though it's pretty boring for you guys to read about. I've started tidying up the wiring and de-pinning plugs, it's looking pretty shmick now compared to the birds nest it once was
