  1. yo. Bought this off an old bloke. was a mint as virgin when i got hold of it, dont think any thing had ever been unbolted during its 140000 km lifespan. all I've done is lowered it on hotwires and stickered her up. Its a dirty old 2L "guess ur gear" auto.. . doesnt even light up in the wet.
  2. all good, i scored some hotwires and some springs for the cortina too, so it doesnt look like the grandad express anymore.
  3. Anyone goin on the ford cruise on the 5th of august? I'm keen to get a subgroup of oldschool stickered cars to join the pack.
  4. Hey I'm in for a cruise, capri's still not goin yet but i can load up the cortina. I dont have the net so someone (josh?) keep me posted on the txt machine, chur. anyone going on the henry ford day? might start another thread.
  5. Damn that looks good Josh, I'm looking forward to the race.
  6. Christchurch here, orig from gore. i dont mean to but i cant seem to buy anything thats not an old ford... the stereotype is eating me alive

    4age vs ca18

why piss around making a non turbo engine turbo when you could give yourself a free headstart? CA18.
  8. that; mixed with baking soda, haha bet theres heaps of old lady's remedies for this shit.

    Ford 8" diff

nah, the rangi cunt who sold it to me forgt to mention that he'd gas axed the mounts off it after he'd taken the photo for the auction, then freighted it to me. no biggie to buzz them back on, but yeh, time and hassle = gay.
  10. 8.8 is still high tensile, she'll be right. I doubt the cast pulley will hold, but you might be lucky. Any engineering place would either suggest making a custom pulley or getting your one heat treaded to remove the haz. good luck.

    Ford 8" diff

yo, Dave's right, that guys asking too much, and I do have an 8 inch all shortened up with 4x108 studs. Im not 100% sure that its the right length but I was told it was used in a mk1 capri. Ive got 2 heads, 2.78 and the locker Dave sold me, was going to rebuild the 3.5 with the open head then decided LSD was the way to go, hilux worked out the cheapest way. Have you thought about shortening up a hilux lsd to a custom length, that way you'll be able to fit those 8" wheels under the guards, I have a feeling the 7's might not fit without a bit of guard or diff work either.
  12. came out with ca8et and ca18e in the sss variant as far as i can tell Id say youll get away with it man. Can only try. Driveshaft loop = no prob, easiest thing in world to construct. but not the easiest thing in the world to make look good. No one likes slapped together afterthoughts clinging on underneath a car. Ca18det, should go fairly good, my CA18DE poobird goes fairly well, add a turbo = yeah baby.
  13. yeh, my old man bought a brand new legacy from the showroom floor back in 96 that did the exact same thing from new, he rung subaru and they told him to tap the airflow meter as he was starting it to get it out of limp mode, they couldnt fix it so they took it back, gave him another car and scrapped the piece.
  14. can hardly tell ay... sweet. I had fears of a big fat fridge exposing itself

    2.3l Pinto

haha dont bag the almighty V4... or ok do it. a mate of mine has a turbo 2.3 (american) pinto engine sitting in his escort had to chop the firewall, im real keen to see how well it goes once he finally gets it running.
  16. if you have trouble getting that certed then im in a whole world of shit... seriously though, I doubt it'd be much of a problem, I'd say the cert guy would just make sure the radiator crossmember isnt full of rust (like they are in most capris). it'd be best to ask him straight out though. water to air cooler.... anti rice rocket. each to their own
  17. yeah, conversion costs can skyrocket, theres always something that doesnt get thought of, things like sidedraughts sitting on a wide twin cam head getting in the way of the capri's big brake booster in the narrow engine bay, and whether or not a rear type sump pan is easy to get/ modify, will the pipes enter the radiator in the right place in relation to the engine? will the shifter position in the car need moved? will it need an electric fuel system? will the standard fuel lines work? it shouldnt cost too much more than $5-600 to get a strong pinto going in there, depending who you know and how rooted your one is, but on the other side of the coin, if you can fabricate ypurself, none of those problems above are too big a deal.
  18. fairly sure there was a purple mk2 on trademe ages ago with one of those in it, definately possible. It'd be a damn cool car with sidedraughts and an old school lookin rocker cover on it. (have no idea what they look like)
  19. I decided to send the capri out to an experienced panel beater to get the guards welded back on and some new sills welded in, came back nice n straight and completely rust free while it was gone, I made a few bits up at work. Billet flywheel custom HD clutch based on a GT-4 celica/supra. engine mounts/ gearbox mounts camber plates I also started making a rail kit, copying this one
  20. Hey, thought id show a few pics of progress. Here it is just after the engine was removed to attack the rust caused by the leaking battery The tiny V4 almost looks lost in the engine bay, I reckon I could have fit 2 of them in there. With the engine out, i got stuck in to welding up the rust and fabricating some new radiator support panels to suit the commodore radiator. While I was in there with the welder, i decided to strengthen the strut tops, and seam weld the firewall re sealed the inner guard as well
  21. yes they do. mine just happened to drop down as the window retainer rusted through so the arm was just winding itself up and down..... hmmm, that reminds me, should fix that. haha gold. who wants windows to go all the way down in the back anyway? im stoked the back windows in the capri cant open, that way the skanks cant escape at the lights.
  22. will the windows actually fit inside the doors when they are all the way down? My thoughts are no, not with the shape of the doors due to the rear wheel arch cutaway. could be wrong though, its been a while since ive had a look at an escort.
  23. yeah dude most likely, not too sure on their condition though, I'll dig one up and get back to ya.
  24. good to hear you got them machined, I was kinda worried u wouldnt, they had like 5mm twist in them... I reckon they came out good by the looks of the photo, and considering the plenum is alloy, must have been copper coated first or something.
  25. run a hone through it first or else your new rings will never seat properly.
