  1. "friend" eh? I wondered where that chuck out of your garage wall came from .
  2. Hmmm, interesting. The gemini tank i have is form a sedan and isnt going to fit the wagon i'd say... worth a try tho, as its got an electric pump inside it.
  3. 1256 Chevettes dont have em, If i go with either of my available engine, an a14 or a g161z, I'm going to need one, how should i go about it? I can fit it under the car easily enough, bundy tubing i can get, but where should i plumb it back into the tank? Would the fuel filler neck be a good option? Opinions?
  4. *raises hand* My flatmate has just got himself another job, im so very jealous.
  5. That is fucking gold, the fishing rod is the best addition yet .
  6. I went to pull the front off that gemini i scored from CUL8R the other day, and the guards pretty much disentigrated due to rust . Could be saveable, but i dunno... Whats involved in putting the gem front on? The guards look like a bolt in affair, just drill out some spot welds and weld back in all the supports in the front? I'd love a Kadett front end tho, those square lights and different grille, oh my... .
  7. You sir, have all the information i need! I have just aquired a g161 engine, and also want to put it in my chevette. Pleeeeease answer my questions! What gearbox are you using? Are the engine mounts a nice easy bolt up affair? Where did you get those sexy extractors? Love your work . Chur!
  8. Yeah, i'll admit it, im a Mikuni fan-boy... Lub your work!
  9. Well, i think i know why it wouldnt go. Have a look at this picture: Note how piston 1 is at TDC, yet the timing mark on the front pully is nowhere near the mark on the front cover... Problem? Methinks yes! If only i was smart enough to chuck a screwdriver down the sparkplug hole and check it before i pulled the head off... But what ya gonna do? Headgasket was pretty toast anyway. In other news, check out the dodgy throttle linkage someone has made for it: Fully awesome... Definatly not going back on. The carb was pretty toasted and played with aswell, luckily i have another on the way and a rebuild kit at work for it. Should prove a fun project. I did purchase some new bits: And remove alot of old bits, to be refurb'd or replaced: I've purchased CUL8R's Gemini parts car, complete with engine, so that will be plunked in at some stage, but as i can get the bits to put this motor back together for next to nothing im gonna do that for the moment, that way i can actually drive it! hah! So current plan is to freshen up the head, figure out what the crank pully is out of whack (im *really* hoping its not a slogged out key-way or something), slap it back together and get it purring, then actually drive it! Wha-hey!
  10. Everyone should buy it so it can get the fuck off the shelves... Man those bottles are annoying to stock.
  11. Thats some hardcore work right thur, Inspiration++ .
  12. Now theres a good idea . Unfortunatly i have to work both saturday and sunday, but i'll give it another go on monday and tuesday. I'll get some new battery and starter leads and connections as the old ones were getting a little hot under the collar while cranking. My flatmate should be able to take my now some-what flat bettery to his work for a fry-up too. In better news, i found out what the mysterious disconnected wire near the coil was for... someone added a kill-switch at some stage, so that solves that mystery! There is definatly something dickey witht he carb... Its had an aftermarket air-filter put on it at some stage, and the throttle linkage has been dicked around with, plus its missing all the choke linkage parts! There is one on trademe im going to get i hope, so maybe that will help. Cheers all for you help
  13. Alas, i"m only one man, so i cannot check it while its cranking, which is where i think the problem may be .
  14. Right, fresh fuel straight from the can, no luck. Compression test is worrying: 1) 8 Bar 2) 4.2 Bar 3) 4.5 Bar 4) 6.5 Bar And thats with chucking some oil down the bores. Still shouldnt stop it from going tho. Im going to re-wire the ignition circuit myself i think... The ballast resistor is built into the actual ignition wire itself, so you cant replace it if it fucks out... Seems a bit silly to me so i'll run some new wires and hope for a nice strong spark.
  15. Did it do it before you put your new wheels and tyres on?
  16. Hmmmm, im not sure thats setup correctly, depending on what brand of boost controller your using? The boost controller should have an in and an out, and just goes inbetween the wastegate actuator(s) and the inlet manifold. I would get rid of the tee peice closest to the inlet manifold in your setup and just plub the boost controller in there. Bleeds can be a pain in the ass to setup, as you really need a restrictor in the pressure line before the bleed valve itself. Turbos flow a fuck-ton of air, and quite often if you just try to bleed some of it off, you can't get rid of enough of it to make a noticable difference, thus no difference in boost level. So you add a restrictor before the bleed valve, which means any pressure the bleed valve bleeds off has a large effect. (I NEED TO STOP TYPING BLEED). Yeah... what kind of boost controller is it? If its a Racepro one throw it the fuck away right now. I've had good runs with the GFB ones that look like a bee-hive. They have a restrictor built into them, and aslong as you set the level you wanted and loctited the screw in place they were all good .
  17. That extra hole will be for the aligning dowel sticking out of the end of the crank. The GSR Sigma flywheel must be a FWD one, as they dont have the larger hole for a spigot bearing, as the FWD mitsy stuff dosent run them. You can have it machined out tho, no probs. MPL Automotive, down the road from my work, can take care of that for ya, i can hook you up with the bearing cheap cheap. I think the problem your striking is the narrow/wide block thing... I was under the impression that the mitsy commercial stuff (l200's, 300's etc) were wideblock? If you'r using a vr4 block it'll definatly be narrowblock RWD non-turbo sigma's and FWD stuff will definatly be narrow block, thus the smaller flywheels. The wideblock flywheels wont fit into the narrow blocks, fucking pain in the ass when it comes to sorting a decent clutch. This is where the difference in starter motors comes in aswell im fairly certain. I think ive used a RWD sigma (narrowblock) starter on a starion (wideblock) once and there were no issues? If you need any FWD sigma parts come see me, i have a whole 3*2 dash engined one sitting on the back lawn doing nothing at all. Pretty sure it has a reduction gear starter motor in it aswell, which makes a nice touch .
  18. No luck yet alas, my week at work has started anew, so i wont get a good go at it till next weekend, all you ideas shall be tried however, and the winning one shall recieve a prize. If there is no winning idea your all going to burn in the fiery pit of hell, but you know, whatever .
  19. I'd definatly go L20B, Shouldn't be to hard to get in there.
  20. Alas, while a know a tad of engine, i know NOTHING of carbs.... I kinda know the theory of how they work, but i've never played with one before... Fuck that, i'll just inject it .
  21. nah, havent had it running before, so its anyones guess really... Its not a huge dealio, as i dont *need* a car, but i have to get it running before i can do all the fun stuff!
  22. Hmmmm, threw some new plugs at it, retarded the timing a few times and still no luck... have to wait till my next way off now, but thats no biggie. Cheers all for you help .
  23. Mint, just went for a run to clear my head, i'll try that as soon as i've stopped sweating like a pig. Yup, i checked which way the rotor rotates, its anti-clockwise, leads are set that way :/. Retardation here i come! (more so even ).
  24. Yeah, gas gauge is up, and the filter has got some in it. Damn simple cars, why cant you be more simple!? .
  25. Hmmmm, nope, tried that and still no luck. It would turn over nice and fast, then sound like it fired once, stop turning alltogether for an instant, then repeat the process. Hmmmm, its a bit late now, but on my next day off i might whip the front covers off and check the timing in there... Who knows what dodgy bastards had this thing, heh.
