  1. I would get in touch with the supplier and let them know it has failed - they could have a serious liability on their hands as the outcome could have been so much more severe! For something that controls the most essential aspect of a car it is a huge safety concern. I would also look into swapping it out for UJ's as early as possible as it would do wonders for the steering feel.
  2. who the fuck continues to drive with police chasing them?? I feel that should be instant license revocation!

my plan is to retain the stock twin tip arrangement but have one tip going to the rear muffler, and the other tip going to the bypass valve, which will be driven by the stock GTO active exhaust control motor.

should probably mention - new engine will be 6G74 with MIVEC heads + churbos which is why I want 3". I definitely understand the exhaust I want to build will not be well suited to the N/A engine.

Hey guys, So the exhaust on my Diamante is absolutely had it (front down pipe is smashed, rear section is rusting away etc) so I need to replace the exhaust sooner than later. Given that I'm planning an engine swap, I want to make sure the exhaust would be suitable and ready. I'm thinking a mild steel 3" mandrel bent system with one or two hotdog resonators and a muffler that is reasonably quiet at the rear, but with a servo actuated bypass valve before the rear muffler - kind of similar to how the 'Active Exhaust' works on the GTO and some later Galants and Diamantes. The factory GTO appears to just have a cat converter up front, no mufflers in the middle and a restrictive muffler in the rear that then splits to each side, but there is a valve just in front of the rear muffler that basically allows the exhaust to just bypass the rear muffler and exit out of one of the exhaust pipes. I'm hoping to replicate this, but am wary of the system being too loud or raspy when in 'quiet' mode. What would be the ideal length of resonators to use? Does anyone have recommendations of a good 3" rear muffler? Ideally an oval type with center in and offset out. Below is a pic of the stock GTO exhaust systems - on the left is the N/A one which is similar to the Diamante system, while on the right is the TT version: Thanks!
  6. did you consider doing a cross ram style inlet manifold? would have taken up less width, same height etc and you retain the same runner length if not longer etc for example:
  7. Are you sure? I'm certain Jag are 5x4.75" (5x120.65mm)
  8. Nooooo how come you sell your SD1's not long after sinking lots of time and effort into them and not getting to enjoy your fruits of labour?
  9. what are the ratios like on a Navara diesel box though?
  10. if staying N/A then the gearbox option should be much easier. The Triton R5M31 would probably be the easiest to do, otherwise you could just source the bellhousing from one and fit to a Toyota box. I'm considering using a Nissan 350Z/370Z CD009 6-speed box as they are cheaper to find than a T56 that I was originally going to use, plus they shift much better and are the same size.
  11. so odd being imperial 4x108 - I would have thought it would be 4x100 like the Golf that it borrowed some of its suspension parts from.
  12. Damn what a shame! Am there from the 16-23 May.
  13. Ok now this is where things get a bit more serious. Myself and Damien just collectively bought this, a flood damaged 1992 GTO twin turbo - he wants the engine and I want the rest of the driveline. It has all I need to convert to 5 speed manual (would have preferred 6 speed but they are harder to come by, especially for this price), large 4 pot brakes up front, bigger vented brakes in the rear, larger turbo diff and axles and the 17" OEM wheels which I like the look of. It looks to be lowered too so those struts could be swapped over. Now I just need to book a trip back to NZ some time soon.
  14. They should go back into the air intake. One will have a PCV valve so should go into the manifold after the throttle, the other will not have a valve and needs to go into the intake before the throttle. Or you could just pipe them into a catch can, either vented to atmosphere (not really the best), or vented back into the intake, and a drain that drains back into the sump (or drain can often).
  15. Apparently it was over $90k when new (which I find hard to believe myself!) The previous owner's brother bought a GTO brand new but found it impractical so traded it in some months later on this. The 2.6L Magna is so weaksauce compared to the Diamante - 120hp vs 220hp, beam axle rear suspension vs multilink (for JDM FWD) or double wishbone for AWD, shit Aus built low quality interior etc. The 1st gen Magna I had in Aus was noticeably not as well built as the JDM or even Todd built Galant/Sigma equivalents I had in NZ.
  16. Am trying to track down some original wheels like this:
  17. So I was browsing TradeMe one night and came across this, which I eventually won the auction for a measily $1000. I've always wanted one, but finding one in this condition is hard as most of them ended up in the junk yards over a decade ago. Introducing my 1991 F26A Diamante 30R-S. This particular example is NZ-new and is one of the few that were specially ordered already built up from Japan, as opposed to the Australian assembled Magna/V3000, or the used Japanese import models that came flooding in a few years later. Being an F26A it misses out on 4WS, it also doesn't have a sunroof, rear wiper or half as many electric gizmos as the JDM 30R-SE does. Oh, and it's AWD with a 3.545 viscous LSD rear end which makes it that extra bit special. You can definitely see where it's a stretched and widened E39A platform (firewall, strut towers, front subframes etc) but you can also see some key GTO parts in there too (V6 drivetrain, rear subframe/trailing arms, brakes). My short term plans are to tidy it up and complete a bit of a restoration finding the original OEM wheels (or similar) as those Reflex's have to go! My long term plan is to swap in a 6G74 3.5L bottom end with some MIVEC 30M heads that I have, and possibly twin turbo conversion with 5 or 6 speed manual gearbox - but this will be a pipe dream for a while no doubt as I'm still living in Canada. My first steps are to fix up a broken exhaust and get it down to my parents place in Taumarunui. Feel free to discuss my failings!
  18. You bought a DOHC pulley... I already told you what car you can grab a pulley from - whether you want to listen to my advice is up to you.
  19. You bought an oil pump sprocket for a DOHC engine that has a wider timing belt...
  20. Try looking for one from a 91+ NZ-new Galant or Chariot 2.0 SOHC 8V. The 87-92 DOHC and 92+ SOHC 16V pulley is wider.
  21. the angle cut gears are for 7 bolt engines I'm sure. The straight cut gears are what gives the 6-bolt its whine.
  22. Evo 8 cams are 264 duration already. Perhaps you could find some of those for cheap and slap them in.
  23. I think 10.8:1 instead of 10.5:1 isn't going to make much of a difference, it will mostly come down to the tune and the specifics of the fuel delivery. Engine/cylinder head temp, injector spray pattern, fuel and spark timing etc will all have more influence on knock/pinking than a 0.3 increase in CR.
