    Show me your 9's

Wanting to get some rims made end of the year. Talking to tyre shops today it would seem there is little to no option for tyres to fit a wide 14". Anyone got photos of 14x9-10's with tyres on (need to know the tyre size and brand). Im not really into the ballon stretch look but want a good fitting low pro ideally. Gaz

    PAINT THREAD

Do what KK said then if it evens it out whack some clear over it. Just want to find out what the guy used to paint it with originally. I think youll find that when rubbing that roof down you will go through to the old colour. The rest of the car will prob rub down and clear ok by the looks tho. Gaz
  3. Buy turbo pictured for above reasons, seems cheap. For new engine run T2 flange or evo flange. A TD05/6 on your engine would prob be mint and they not too pricey, $800ish rather than $1800 for the Garrett Gt series, not a BB turbo tho, shouldn't matter much in race application anyways. Infact journal bearing is prob better for you application as then you can rebuild it yourself whn the time comes for minimal cost. Gaz
  4. You got T2 flange? Run a t28 either BBor non. BB $1 reserve http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-par ... 819959.htm Or bite the bullet and go for a decent new turbo.... you choose the model but this is about the price new. http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-par ... 788932.htm Rebuilt unsure of model http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/SearchR ... uggested=0 Gaz
  5. Are you running a ballast resistor? Gaz
  6. Its pretty hardcone as you have to get the Ackerman angles all right otherwise bump steer central will apply. Gaz
  7. Ive done one in Cortina using escort. Alot of people use the Hillman Hunter rack and I have heard of the DX style Corolla ones being used a bit also. Gaz

    Locked Dizzy

Ok got my shit sorted. Now have an electric dizzy with modules on the outside. Will be running it unlocked and using vaccum advance aswell. Once setup and engine run in I will then sort if it needs the curve changing and move from there. Im then keen to try running a wasted spark setup with three coils instead of the two and an MSD unit... thats along way away though. Also for reference: Timing chart. Uploaded with ImageShack.us

    Locked Dizzy

    You locked yours Dave?

    Locked Dizzy

No advance at all, it is locked so is advanced manually and wherever it is set is where it stays for whole rev range. Gaz

    Locked Dizzy

Question: I have a dizzy that has been locked mechanically and wont use vacumm advance, 13b. Searching all over the E-nets gets me lots of rota heads saying that locking the dizzy is what you do for ported motors cause thats what they do for racing, no real reason. I understand it is so that maximum advance is achieved at top revs but do not see how that can be good for the engine at low revs, how do you stop the detonation?.. A race engine doing high revs all the time, no worries, street use.... no wonder rotarys fuck out so quickly! Why cant I keep the normal mech and vac advance, does the porting act like cam overlap so vaccum is gaylord? Are the counterweights too light at higher revs, why not re weight? Any input from anyone here? Perhaps going electronic ignition is the real answer, anyone set one of these up on a rotary before? Gaz
  12. If going hardcone like that would you maybe do the upside down shock type thingie like Bilstien does, or remote resivour? Gaz
  13. I think having no mirrors on side makes better driver as you check your blind spot all the time instead which is better view. I never had mirrors on my old first cars and till this day I still dont use the shitty side mirrors on my new cars... blind spots a bitch!! Gaz
  14. Will start project thread next month when I get it in the garage. Gonna take the Chevette out and 2 in to start getting it running. Will have the 13b out of it for sale soon as I got a new one. Gaz
  15. Or use this as an excus to rock a rack and pinion conversion... you will never look back! Gaz
  16. I got some of those new badges for my 2, they pretty good quality and the price is good seeing as they are new. Gaz
  17. Discount at repco etc should be around the $40-50 mark from memory. Gaz

Will try find the idle vid of my old escort or cortina. Gaz
  21. I used falcoon wagon one from Pickapart twice now. Think bout an XF coon... just go hunting at PaP and you will find something, all it has to do is be able to pull/push Gaz

What are you trying to acheive from the "wild" cam? I am guessing a lumpy idle? If so a FR will get that and be alot more usable than a "wild" cam with no other supporting mods like you suggest above. I really wild cam will want your engine to rev between 4.5-8k+ and without lightening, balancing and decent flow this will not happen so the cam will be useless.. All you will end up with is a cam with no power down low and not enough flow to utalise the power in the top end. Gaz

and driveable. Id recomend the FR32 or the next grind up (FR43?) highly for streetable car.... mind you they are the only ones Ive tried. Jase has prob tried nastier ones. Gaz

Why dont ya just do a cam on that engine? Dont even open it up or anything... just do a new cam, lifters, and oil spray bar. Put the engine in the car and see what you think. Then go from there. For the engine mentioned earlier the old man prob only wants a couple hundy so you could even start rebuilding another motor whilst you enjoy the TM one you just brought. Check cam bearings while cam is out although these bearings get way les rpm so usually ok. Gaz
