  1. I brought this '84 'tallboy' Manhattan roof City-R in November 2020 after regretting selling my red City-E earlier in the year. It was dirt cheap, and I love the odd/rare stuff so I grabbed it. Its one of 3 that I know about in Nz currently. Unfortunatly it was/still is in Christchurch and I'm in Auckland so I need to organise getting it in the next month or so. Thankfully a mate of mine has some land so has let me stash it there since I made the purchase. I have been actively buying some pretty hard to find 'cool guy' bits for it throughout the year from both Yahoo Japan and locally. It's crazy to think I've dumped easily $4k so far into rare accessories/optional parts for this thing, when I paid $350 and have only seen it once in person. I will keep collecting bits for it, but probably won't make a start on the resto til well into next year some time
  2. Probably time I stopped being a background creeper and contributed to the forum a bit more, so here's an 'all in one' thread for some of my hoard... I kinda jump around on my builds a bit, so not really worth starting a post of thier own but heres where I am at with each.... I will start off with the build I have had the longest. Probably coming up 17 years now. Its an 85' solid axle surf, with a dirty old 2LT. Its got the period correct wastegate spacer mod so it has no problem clocking up high Egt's. Rear springs up front, Xd 'coon leafs in the rear, rear axle and hubs from an ifs (ln61) truck for slightly wider track, raised engine/trans, dual transfer cases with custom twin-stick setup and 37's to name a few of the many mods. Oh and its been made river crossing friendly by ripping all the carpet and door panels out... You may also notice its a little shorter than your average surf. I took 340mm out of the body behind rear wheel arch, removed the rear passenger sliding window, then shortened the fibreglass canopy to suit. Heaps more betterer exit angles now. Kind of over storing it now, so will be good to get it more mobile and finish a bunch of little things then decide whether its time to move it on.
  3. Whats the deal with parking for older cars. Last year there was alot of 80s cars parked up near the starting line, rather than in the back paddocks. In the email I recieved from them it says only pre '78 or something? Planning to take Cordia along, just be nice to park a little closer.
  4. Tickets booked for Sat, gonna take me old boy for a gawk.
  5. Yeah I've read that in the past and struggle to believe alot of it. I don't know where that info comes from but could just be interpretation. My Ckd 55 is exactly a 55. My Ckd 67 is exactly a 67 which I have a Birth Cert for both. All my Nz assembled 60s parts cars have been rego'd to the year the body/engine/pan numbers they came with and have had the correct features to match.. So much of it does not relate to my stuff which doesn't make sense. Cool car regardless. Welcome to the world of unreliability.
  6. Saw this at Zebra yesterday. Looks good. Curious as to why you call it a 68 though. It has 68 traits at all..
  7. Did you find it on the side of the road in rolleston?
  8. cheers guys for the help, just need sum spare time now

  10. i just put the standard 1300 bak in the esky but put a 4 speed box, to my horror i didnt fit proply and the diff/driveshaft hav to be changed, i also thought the auto eskys already hav a hole for the clutch cable to go through but mine duznt, the auto gearbox mounts are furthur bak and wider than the manual so without to much truble what can i do there? and also the becoz the manual box in shorter what can i do about the driveshaft? i was thinkn use the manual shaft and diff and see if that works, cheers... matt
  11. haha i had the positive terminal in my wagon touch the shell of thhe car coz the battery didnt hav a thing to fix it into place, and it melted the earth wire then went through the clutch cable and it caught fire, the car turned off and all the power went out, we probably hold the world rekord for the quickest exiting of a car...
