If anyone desperately want info/pic of the cars there I don't mind diverting there on my way to Cromwell on the 20th.

For me it was a quick fix that has become semi permanent. the hardest part of changing the thermo switch aside from getting your hands on the right one is not cracking the tank. 30 year old plastic that had gone hot/cold is very brittle.

For not touching the metal surface I've had good results with paint stripper. You want to hang the frame up and shower it in really nasty, and I mean knock out an elephant with a wiff nasty, paint stripper. Coopers works well. Then water blast off after leaving it to sit for a bit. Scotch bright can be used to polish up the metal surface a bit

It doesn't surprise me your fan is on a manual switch as the thermo switches on those pack up quite often. Both mine and my brothers ones are on manual dash switch. the water pumps on the 058 block are also known to die and produce crap water flow. chances are you're radiator is half blocked also. My crown wagon randomly tried Chernobyling itself on one day, took the radiator to get flushed and they said it was very blocked and they were surprised it was cooling up until then. I can do the same trick I did to my brothers one and rewire it to run a stand alone circuit with a 2 stage switch on the dash if you want. You'll have hi and lo speed but you'll have to remember to keep an eye on the temp gauge and turn it off when you shut the car off. As far your oil burning goes put a liter of Morey's heavy duty oil stabilizer in it with the next oil change. I used this in a 40% mix for a Camry which burnt enough oil to be considered 2 stroke. bit of Morey's reduced the consumption by 2/3. http://www.moreyoil.co.nz/moreys-heavy-duty-oil-stabilizer/

Thought I'd do the same Jonny. It was good to meet you at Karl's. Whats the deal with the show? I'm about to enter my car. should we all roll up together to be next to each other? I'm probably going to rolling in my golf as the crowns engine went poof. I could try and nab the keys to dad's crown coupe from my brother.

Help! I need somebody, Help! Not just anybody, Help! You know I need someone, help. I'm banging my head against a wall at the moment. I'm trying to get my 1.8t engine started out of the car for testing and the bastard wont start. No spark, No fuel out the injectors, Nothing. This is my wiring diagram http://vwts.ru/electro/wd_p_98.pdf the engine stuff is page 18 and 19. I've powered up all the wires shown to come from the relay panel and am kicking the starter over by putting 12v on the solenoid. I have power at the coils and injectors and I've tested the injectors for operation. the engine is an 1.8 Turbo AEB out of a Passat. Any help is appreciated and if someone could come round and point out the mistake I have made that would be awesome.

Carsnz123's 1984 Volkswagen Mk2 Golf 3 door
Carsnz123 replied to Carsnz123's topic in Projects and Build Ups
1 month in of driving. The gearbox is making bad noises, the carb is not working properly but running in a reasonable AFR range so its ok, all the door and heater vent seals leak and it fills up water, IT IS SLOOOOOOOOOOOOW. 45kw makes it no rocket ship. Time to change that. Watch This Space...- 20 replies

I think BBQ/camping at Mr808's and rolling into Cromwell a bit hung over the next morning sounds like a plan. I can sleep in the crown but I think ill throw a tent in with the golf. I could attempt to steal a cow from the farm across the road and burn that if needed. Do we have any fixed plans for Saturday or is it make it up as we go?
