  1. I'll put a 1200 Beetle lump in it, would that help ? If you lot don't behave yourselves i'm going to report the lot of you. And block you.
  2. You know I live in England, right ? Rusty, yes. Small blocks ? Errr........
  3. Averages for August. LPG............£ 0.61 per litre Petrol.........£ 1.29 per litre Diesel.........£ 1.32 per litre. I don't know about the maths RV8 + conversion kit + LPG conversion = probably a while until I make the difference back. And obviously my run of luck with the old 3500's would then end in a blaze of bent heads, flattened cams and oily clutches.
  4. The Rover V8 'thing' is a funny one, I've never had a problem with the 4 or 5 I've owned. I've got mates who have sometimes destroyed them in days. Doubt I'd put one in the Hilux, purely due to the fuel bills.
  5. I live in the UK, woeful is what we aspire to. Nah yeah nah ? This has crossed my mind, bell housing kits come up for grabs now and then and i know of a few nice engines here and there. I've run the old crate up to nearly 300,000 miles on that gutless woeful engine. I liked it enough for daily duties over 13 years, but maybe a turbo would help. I'll review the situation at 500.000 miles.
  6. Yeah, rust situation. Not terrible really, just both sills, inner & outer and the bottom of the B pillar on the drivers side. Headlamp panel too. It'll be fine, my weldy mate's wicked smart. Tyres are 31x10.5x15 on 8" rims. No 2JZ, no shit. 2.4 2L non-turbo for the win.
  7. As it stands now the chassis is still solid, it still runs, moves and stops but the cab is pretty rotten and the electrics are a bit temperamental. I put this down to the mice that have been living in it for the last decade. So many nut shells. So much poo. It's currently looking sad sat on L200 rims, but things are on the move. Going to get it home this week and then over to my mates workshop at the end of the month. Had the old Mangels 8 spokes blasted and coated and bought new tyres. There's nothing like a sensible order of works. Pics. It'll be fine
  8. I bought my '88 LN65 Hilux in 1996 with 128,000 miles on the clock. It had spent most of its life owned by a bloke who drilled charges in quarries. The bed was pretty fucked from having drill bits and tubes chucked in it and quarry lyfe had left all the panels dented and rusted. The interior & chassis were packed with stone dust. The bed was eventually condemned by the MOT tester as it was just welds on welds ( "don't bring this piece of shit back here until that mess is sorted out "), so I luckily found a brand new MK 4 bed on ebay and it mostly fitted. I also fitted a 5000 lb winch as i was using it to deliver/install stuff into tricky spots. It was my daily until 2009 when one passenger seat and two growing kids was getting too complicated so I parked it up in a corner of my folks land. I'd refused various good offers for it over the years, largely because Mrs Shuzz said I wasn't allowed to get rid of it. Anyway, life is changing and I don't want to overwinter in the Bug again so I thought I'd have a bash at getting it back on the road. A mate who TIGs has said he'll weld the body up for me because " I'm always doing stuff for him". GC, A++, etc. Soooo..... History pics in chronological-ish order, up until last year.
  9. Ok, so not even slightly Baja anymore, but still a bug. 2" drop spindles fitted this morning, hopefully paint on Friday. Found all sorts of bad practice on the front suspension, all mended and safe now. pics
  10. I'm sorry. There's not necessarily not going to be a baja thread, just not here at the moment. Lifted MK2 HiLux resto thread starting soon. Any good to be going on with ?
  11. Finally got a bit of paint on it, started on the roof today. Striping/lace/flake to follow in the week when I get the chance. Defo not going to Baja it now, not only because I'm about to crack into the HiLux but also my stepson is about to start driving and stock beetles are about the cheapest thing to insure when you're 17. Sticking with the 1200 too, but still gonna drop the front. And maybe put the 8" rims on the back. Pics
  12. We loved our TD5 Disco , but I broke my "no more sunroof cars" rule with it. Lived to regret it.
  13. Bit of an update, and actually some stuff happening. The bug's been my daily since I got it. It survived a British winter, leaked like a sieve, and never quite got hot enough to pump any warm air inside but it fired every time and got through all the ice and all but the worst of the snow. I've come to realise that however much of a lashed up piece of crap it is, there's no way I'm going to chop the ends off it. Sooo..... All the wheels are off and I'm fitting new tyres in the morning. 125's on the front, 195's on the rear. While it's off the ground I'm equaling out the rear end (2" difference) and putting the 2" drop spindles on the front. I've also been trying to decide what colour it's going to be. I found some light green that was ok and painted a wing but I've now found a pot of creamy white in the garage, painted the other wing and I think it looks fucken ace Gonna stick with it before the bug starts looking even more like a clown car All this doesn't mean I've given up on the Baja thing, I think I've managed to find a crash damaged car that'll be just the ticket. Picking up some all terrains for the 8" rims tomorrow too. /but that may have to be a whole other fred. // more pics tomorrow
  14. @63Ragtop Do you know/have you bothered working out what MPG or L/100KM or quarts per acre you get out of that engine ? We're going on our hols (prolly about 700 miles) and I'm wondering if I should stick with the 1200 at a slow 40 mpg or put the 1641 in for jolly japes, skidz and many fuel stops. Thank you from Shuzzy, aged 51.
  15. Well done Imps are great, I had 4 but they all had fire engine pumps in the back. Would trade again
  16. Everything is close to everything else on an Imp. That swage line was the giveaway for me.
  17. I used to have Imps. My mate had a 68 Aston Martin DBS. He broke an indicator lens and Aston wanted 78 pounds for a new one. I gave him a box full of mint Imp complete sidelights and told him to take his pick. He was most pleased and bought me beers. So my guess is Aston Martin DBS.
  18. 1932 Steyr-Feltzen belt driven potato counter. " Du hast zwolf punkte fufn Kartoffeln"
  19. Nottingham, eh ? Two girls for ever guy and you end up with an old bike. /sorry, a bit spammy. // my sis had one in metallic brown.
  20. So cool I know it's not Steve's Impala but it still may be better than Darryl Starbird's Superfleck Moonbird.
