  1. Great job you guy's are doing there Fence palings if butt joined will dry & shrink giving you a gap between them (maybe not big enough though). So if you nail them with a 5mm gap, that'll probably increase to maybe 10mm when they're all dried up (you probably already knew this haha)
  2. This is an amazing build, you're doing a fantastic job so far & I can't wait to see it all done & on the road.
  3. Need. more. pics. good to hear it worked out for ya
  4. Wicked looking car - another contender for the 2015 drag day I reckon..no pressure
  5. Sounds like fun! Unfortunately the car didn't come with the engine, but it does have the cam sitting inside along with the exhaust system. I'll have to check it out & see if it's ok (wouldn't have a clue what I'm looking at though!)
  6. Project here: //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/46204-jeds-1971-hq-ex-race-car/
  7. As if I didn't need another project..oh well always wanted a HQ after great memories as a kid growing up driving round in the back seat of mum & dad's HQ games car..blame it on them I say! Discuss here: //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/46205-jeds-1971-hq-ex-race-car/ Had a road trip down to Lower Hutt last weekend. Left home at 3:30am..Called thru Fielding to pick these up for Euron8.. HQ all loaded up & ready to go at 1pm.. Got home at about 8:30pm feeling pretty good - 1160km round trip...sweet as! Biggest pain in the arse was unloading it by myself into a tight gap in the dark with goddam mozzies the size of WW2 bombers attacking me.. All tucked in beside the one tonner I was trying to sell a few weeks ago, but now I'll raid it for any missing parts I need before I try again to flick it off..think I'll list it here next time.. Monday morning I spent a couple of hours putting the front end on it to make it look more like a car..who needs to work!! This car is the old Murray Brook race car that won the championship for a couple of years in 2009/10 I think(?) It's been certed for a deleted back seat, lowered, bucket seats, 3300 3spd, blah blah..so I'll probably get it back on the road with that setup. I want it done quick & nasty so I'm hoping to have it back on the road sometime next year so I can drive something old again (last car I had on the road was a nice '85 V8 calais about 4-5 years ago) What's stopping me from ripping into it straight away is the lack or work space, which is why I'm in the midst of building a shed to put my cars in..a new Holden House of Heaven This is where I'm up to on that.. Just waiting on a concrete mate of mine to start which won't be til the new year unfortunately, but can't wait!
  8. Thanks guys, it's good to be welcomed well here. I post on GMH Torana in Aussie as well but I get better feedback here which I'm very happy about. I'll keep the posts & progress going on this. I only get the weekends to work on it but try & get something done each week.
  9. Haha, sounds like a plan! Grey primer & black guide paint is a memory I have from back in the day as well that a few cars ran around like..
  10. Today's small amount of progress.. Welded the plate to the front of the rad. support panel & it came up ok. I won't weld it up to the car til I practice some more on butt welding joints. Maybe next weekend. Knocked up these plates as the car was missing them after one of the previous owners repaired the typical bonnet hinge rust. My welding sucks but I'll get better..
  11. Hey Flash, what'd set you back to get the van blasted? Cheers
  12. Howdy all. New project time... Discussion: //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/45799-jeds-1976-torana-sedan-ongoing-project/#entry1414625 Not too much to show so far - I picked this car up a few months ago for a good price initially to cut up for patch panels for the hatch, but it's just too good for that so I've decided to put the hatch on hold while I try & get this on the road. Lotta work ahead of me, but I'd like to get it done by xmas next year (famous last words I know). Getting a shed built over xmas/new year this year so I'll have a bit more space, but in the mean time I'll do what I can in the 'might as well be' single garage. Here is a pic of it coming home & in it's new parking space making friends with big brother.. First job was to empty the car out of all it's spare parts, lucky I've got a spare room as it filled that up pretty well. The car came with two sets of doors, guards, bonnet, boot, bumpers so I should get a good set sorted for the car. All the mechanical parts I've collected for the hatch are going to go in this car, then once this is done I'll hopefully know what direction I'll be taking with the hatch. Mocking it all up to a point before I start on rust repairs. Had a VN V8 brake booster for a while, so I've cut the end off it & welded the Torana end on & shorter as well.. Fitted HQ sump to the VR clubsport engine.. Mounted on to hatch front end, lifted up front of car with engine hoist, dropped old front end out & rolled this one under.. Engine in place.. Temporary gearbox crossmember.. At this stage the car sat for a few weeks & I had second thoughts about the direction I was heading with it, but a mate came around the other day & convinced me I just had to do it all out with the V8 & flares so we decided to tape the flares on & chuck on the nose cone & front spoiler to see what it'd look like.. Rolled one of my newly acquired hotwires in front to see what it'd look like & I was pretty happy.. Today I finished welding up the radiator support panel. I bought this a couple of years ago when rare spares didn't know how to make them properly & it was straight when it needed to be curved. So I cut some slots, spread it out a bit & welded it up. I'm no fantastic welder but it came up alright. I'll probably weld a plate to the front through just to strengthen it up a little.. This brings me up to date on this. It's not going to be a fast build but I'll be ticking along on it & I'll update this thread whenever progress is made if y'all are interested
  13. Discussion here on my ongoing project.. //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/45800-jeds-1976-torana-sedan-ongoing-project/ Hope it interests some people
