  1. Got pulled over and cautioned for having 4 people in the back of the 1300 trundling down the strip - completely humourless.
  2. Took Maggie down to the Beach Hop over the weekend. Ran like an champ the whole way - only issue was the gross old heater hose finally gave up (nothing a quick trip to ripco couldn't fix). Got plenty of love despite having half the number of cylinders. Cool to see a few familiar OS faces too. The cops decided she didn't have room for 4 people across the back...
  3. Couple of the better ones from tonight, had focus on manual for half of them - doh!
  4. What CFD program have you been using? Would be super handy at Uni at the moment and I'm keen to try it out.
  5. Copied GWA and adapted the new, smaller rad to the old shroud/mounts. Turned up a couple of spacers to fill the gap. Also gave the shroud a quick sandblast - ready for paint. What do you guys think about... A. Leaving the OEM fan on and putting the new electric one on the other side VS removing the OEM fan? B. Swapping to a header tank/pressurised radiator system (like on a mini) VS keeping the current pressurised expansion chamber system? Discussion link in me sig.
  6. Picked up a new radiator from Redline so that'll be the final piece of the puzzle in the cooling system dilemma. Going to have to sort out some mounting brackets this week and decide whether to route the expansion chamber to the new spout (and get a flat cap for the radiator) or go with the pressurised cap that came with it and put a header tank next to the window washer fluid. Also got a screw on oil filter housing on the way so that should go in this week too.
  7. Im in central Auckland too and happy to come round and give you a hand sometime if you want man. The gear selector shaft will be under the car running from the gearstick to the back/bottom of the diff. Should be connected at both ends.
  8. The fuel pump is on the engine and it might be having trouble sucking it all the way up from the tank. You can check by disconnecting the fuel line running into the carbs and aiming it into a bucket. Then crank the engine and see if its squirting. Also do the valve clearances (even just roughly if you don't have a feeler gauge). And definitely get a Haynes manual for it. Most worthwhile money you'll ever spend on the car.
  9. Yea it's definitely on the correct way now, may have been wrong on the pallet and for the stand photo we just threw it on quickly for looks. Yeah dude definitely, I take it you can't make it to the meet tomorrow night then?
  10. Yea we can get a whole new spin-on housing + filter + studs etc for about 60$ so might just do that for peace of mind. Taking out that extra seal and torquing it seems to have fixed it for now but it's pretty sketchy not being 100% sure.. don't really want to drop all our oil and wreck the engine.
  11. Turned out we hadn't taken out the old oil filter seal (doh!)
  12. Went for a nice long drive out to Takanini and back tonight to see how she's running. All was going great (no overheating, sitting nicely at 90-100kph etc) until we got back to the garage and noticed an unhealthy amount of oil coming from the oil filter housing. Followed the trail back for about a k or so before giving up - luckily there was still a bit in the engine... Looks like its just the oil filter seal thingy so we will fiddle with/re-tighten that and that should be that. Made a right mess of our previously pristine motor though - shit happens.
  13. Has anyone had any experience with redline radiators?
  14. Got them off tardme for 5$ each. They're off an escort.
  15. Little update and to leave some info for other BMC pepz. Realised we were sold the wrong water temp sensor - we received a GTR-104 rather than a GTR-101. So the resistance at normal operating temp was lower than the old sensor - making the gauge read H constantly. Instead of trying to find a matching sensor for our gauge we decided to get a whole new gauge/sensor combo to rule out any inaccuracies. This went according to plan except that we had to turn off the thread of the new sensor and re thread it to 5/8 UNF. Feels awesome to drive - much more go without the clutch being caked in oil. WoF and rego this weekend and then we can lay out a plan of attack for the next wee while.
  16. Back wheel is fine - looks like the same fitment we had. I recommend this site for choosing tire sizing - try to aim for the outer diameter of the tire to be the same as stock. We used some $90 165/60/R14s and they were pretty marginal as to whether we needed flares or not - if you pump up the suspension and find a nice wof guy you should be fine. Will look sick if you can get it fitting right!
  17. Took a few photos today. Good turn out and cool to meet some OS peepz
  18. Good idea! What's a normal coolant temp with an 82C thermostat ?
  19. Got her running last night. Took a while and we had to siphon some fuel back up the line because the pump wasn't coping with the air in the system, we reset the timing and did the valve clearances (roughly for now) and away she went. Still have to pop the hubs back together and give it a tune but after that should be good to go!
  20. Sooooo close dude, the motors all set, just need a crane to put it in. Pretty ready for some summer cruising rn.
  21. A couple of my good mates and I gave the underneath of the bonnet a lovely paisley pattern. Love it or hate it, personally i reckon it looks awesome - complements the green rocker cover and the gold really pops. Now to tidy up the support members....
