Progress...got the wiring sussed and headlight fitted. Stoked the OEM headlight fits sweet into the vintage housing. May have to adjust angle a bit, but its pretty good so far. next is fitting tyres - bought some Shinko 241's ala postie bikes, and painting wheels what are people using as seat bases at the moment? skateboard wont fit properly, have no sheetmetal facilities (or skill haha) really, I could possibly fibreglass something...ideas?

  4. the holiday bike doesn't run a battery does it? might save/make some room if you leave it out. just runs off the mag
  5. the stem plate off a ct90 fits with a bit of tinkering - check out the 'zero bucks cub' from chalopy, that shows how he did his one - or im sure the qcr boys have a few ideas. search chalopy for ct90 and it comes up

ive heard drain cleaner/lye solutions work - but they dissolve alloy so be careful how long you soak for. Or vinegar - http://www.bikeexif.com/custom-bsa-motorcycle its in there somewhere. cool bike too. ....To get rid of years of rust and grime, he dismantled the transmission and cases and bought 12 bottles of the cheapest vinegar he could find. (“I soaked the gearbox internals in my bedroom for about three days. It was pretty messy. I had to be extremely careful not to kick over a container in the night.”)....

Update pic dump. 3d printed switchblocks fit sweet. Was a bit suss drilling out 16mm holes in a 22mm alloy bar but think it should be ok as long as i dont do jumps...the posh switches are in inch and 7/8 so there'd be more meat left on the inch bars. Still need to tap a 3mm hole for the screws and wire everything in. Got my rego notice in the mail just now lol. Been on the road about 15mins total out of that 6month rego...possible 40mins if you count pushing it home!

question on kill switch wiring.. I've got a momentary on/off switch and looking to wire it as a kill switch. My theory is it gets wired between the coil primary (my thinking of coil primary is the small wire on the stator side?) and a good ground...so in effect when the switch is depressed for a while it grounds the stator charge and kills the plug spark/supply to the HV coil? correct? or tell me how. 3D printing came out OK - its a little rough but easy to clean up being plastic. One of the switch housings doesn't quite fit the larger switch for the headlights, but it shouldn't be too hard to persuade it. Stoked overall though - cost about $15 for these two out of black ABS

bar candy next its switchblocks & wiring them in. Getting some posh style ones 3D printed at the moment, hope they work out
  14. The top half of most bmx jump bars make good cheap low clubman bars, just chop off below the cross bar and use that to mount them flipped in a stem etc.....or you thinking halfway down the fork lower? Looking at those pics makes me want to learn to weld
  15. I've got cad files of a stem plate for lower bars if you need. check my build thread (stupid thing wont post a link) 'FR50 tinker build' for pics/details etc.
  16. Not sure if you still need parts but these guys have stacks of oem and tidy repros - s90z even http://www.tenavintage.com/index.php?act=viewCat&catId=4 From memory bigger parts were a problem to ship but smaller ones should be sweet? Gaskets and peg rubbers etc on there too...read your list
  17. potbellies are the man. best when you crank them full of coal and blue flames shoot out the roof for about 2 metres. Plus, makes your house smell like a train
  18. trolling, noticed crap about woodburners... in HB you can have whatever fireplace you want in the 'residential airshed' - as long as its a 'multifuel cooker/stove' that means potbelly or fireplace etc that you can run on coal/wood/whatever burns & stick a pot or kettle etc onto and cook on. there might be that loophole in welly too? potbellies are stoves, not fireplaces, so that could help? a flue wetback can go on just about any fireplace if you cant get an internal one inside the firebox. mean cheap hot water.

Cheers man, The holes nearest the legshield are for the fuel and neutral lights, 5mm leds. Waiting for the switches before i do any more wiring. It was a mission to find a mini on-on-on switch for the headlight!! Im doing a switch and momentary button on each side. Horn and lights on left, kill and indicators on right. Im deciding between the british style throttle or just a dirtbike one...not sure yet. The only choke lever around is the amal style ones, so it might suit if i go british. For grips either brown coke bottles or the grey amal style ones on trademe seem cool. We'll see, ive got to sell some more crap to fund it first lol. So far budgets still at zero!!

General photo dump. Stem plate made up and fits perfect- stoked my dimensions were right. Got it laser cut in the end. made up some 10mm LED indicators into the rubber fork plugs - switches on the boat hopefully for my new bar controls then its find a throttle grips, grips, choke lever and mount up the speedo when it turns up - hopefully soon. out.

Rebored cylinder & cleaned head and then a few pics of the stem plate & mockups before i get it fabricated. Stem should sit nicely on the plate and have enough room at the front for a cable hole and enough space within the stem to fit a pushbike speedo - ill route the speedo cabling down the head tube so it'll still be clean. i found some cool looking switches (google POSH switches) but theyre super pricey - i modelled them up today and sent them to get a price to be 3D printed...so we'll see how that goes. they'd be ABS plastic if it works out, but the same size and shape as the posh ones...stoked if it works.

do you think it'd be possible to find a new one that would have the same cable retention system + end size etc as the factory FR ones? failing that - what size bars does an FA50 have? and what switches are on the RH assembly? - hopefully they'd suit as theres a few on TM

I drew up a new stem plate in CAD so I can use the MTB bars ive got planned - and went to do a final measure and found that the 22mm I thought I measured before is actually 19mm OD on the factory bar setup lol. so, this means the plate will work sweet for the new bars - but... the theory of a straight switch swapover isn't going to happen... does anyone know of a throttle tube that would suit the FR50 switch internals and a 22mm bar OD? hopefully other Suzuki tubes would fit etc? I'm going to file out the switch bodies to suit the new bars so I don't have to fiddle with too much wiring on a new set.
