  2. Here's the parts quad before the strip down . It even turned over after years in the paddock rotting away . Have scored CV joints , all plastics , engine (300cc) , Speedo cable , wheels and tyres and various other bits .
  3. Yeah on the beach is great . The road isn't exactly made for quads!
  4. The plot thickens ...bought a rusted out 300 for the good parts it has left
  5. Replaced the pump with a cheap copy . It works! Quad started first time after a 2 week rest
  6. Decided to take the pump apart , gave a clean , put it back together . Started her up went for a quick disturb the neighbours ride. Went well . Left it for awhile and started again , the big test is when I'm back in a couple of weeks . Fingers crossed . Hopefully the fuel pump turns up . Got a front CV to fix plus both boots. A little welding and then I'll see what I can do about the mudguards
  7. Got a carb rebuild kit . Found bits in the carb that don't look too good !!!. So put it all together . She started but now the vacuum pump isn't working . I've ordered a cheap replacement .
  8. Went for a ride today , after spending time trying to start the bloody thing . Has spark , but I'm thinking the carb needs work , cos I find that if I pump fuel in with a syringe it'll start , and idle fine . There's a vacuum operated fuel pump that works , but fuel just doesn't seem to get to the spark plug! But hey it's close to be ready for those fishing trips . ( that's the next learning curve)
  9. Photography skills worse than my welding
  10. Welding skills are a little unskilled ....well ok useless
  11. Ultra expensive muffler trial fit
  12. Got a rear axle off TM , cost me $63 a bit more than the whole quad , but a great deal really
  13. Quad Bitz in Tauranga seems to be a great little supplier and are very helpful . They have a great website http://www.quadbitz.co.nz/
  14. I picked up this Quad , I think it's a 95 , hopefully I can decipher the VIN and work out the year. cost so far purchase price ...$50 ( yes you read right ) . Battery $100 installed and tested Muffler $25 cheapie off "Wish" ( waiting on delivery ) Air filter cap $10 ( coming soon) Air filter $25 ( somewhere in transit) Oil and filter $50 ( installed ) but will need to change again as clutch slip will happen apparently if I use 10w 40 car oil !! just thought I'd add the extra costs to the list Fuel Pump $16 Carb rebuild kit $35 Rear axle universal $50 CV boots $25 ( didn't use) Donor Quad $250 ........have enough bits to build another .....less plastics and frame heres a short video , got it going after a quick repair of the starter motor . Have got a selection of steel to repair the rusty frame , I found a good one on TM , but I refuse to pay nearly $200 freight . https://www.facebook.com/JimBoyd59/posts/10209691409740304
  15. The sensor needs to be glued into a fitting on a t piece to " see " the water temp . But it could go anywhere on the engine and you adjust the setting to suit .
  16. This is what I used , it keeps its setting when off and dirt cheap eBay or Amazon http://www.autospeed.co.nz/cms/A_112617/article.html
  17. 98 might be too high , I would try a half tank of 91 then 95 . The lextreme site is great for these motors , a few kiwis on it as well.
  18. Check the oil at normal temp , put it through the gears as well , these Toyota gearboxes are the same as Pajero ones .
  19. Old School needs a wow button , fantastic work mate
  20. Brake shudder is a curse I reckon that Ford don't want tell anyone about the "fix" just so we spend dollars on pads , rotors , suspension , steering tyres etc! . I had the dreaded shudder on the motorway , like the wheels were about to fall off . Had front rotors replaced and still the shudder ...........The fix , undo the master cylinder from the booster , gently pull out the actuator , hold the nerled rod with small vice grips and turn the hex head clockwise a few flats........no more shudder. Also when car goes in for service , tell them to leave the bloody thing alone!
  21. It's on carjam , so it's a real car at least
  22. Just saw your listing on TM , great price really for all those toys and all the hard work you've done . Good luck with the sale ........wish I had the spare cash
  23. Did you get rid of the wheels in the end . I've got an 2005 XR6 with factory 17s that have had a few run ins with the kerbs . Like what you've done with the dash to , looks great
  24. What a great project , looks like you've done all the hard work to. So should fetch some good dollars
