  1. The idle speed controller should be under the throttle body. It will have small coolant hoses going in and out of it. Remove throttle body and then idle speed controller. Plug in idle speed controller, when you turn the key on (don't try to start engine) the ISC should cycle back and forth. If not, remove the motor part of it and manually move the shutter. Add WD40 as required. Reassemble and see what happens.
  2. Another thing that never worked was the interior light. Mainly because it never had a bulb. I got one of those fancy modern led jobs and stuck it in. It goes all the time. Adjusted the door switch and flash harry light works properly. Probably should have fixed that a few years ago.
  3. Oh my. I'm pining hard. I think I have some of those full hubcaps like on the first pic, if that's the look you want.
  4. You say that like it hasn't already been destroyed.
  5. Doesn't this have Corvette style transverse leaf spring up front? What's the slam plan?
  6. Yep. Dash is sorted. So fancy having dash lights and a horn button that works.
  7. Yellow bulbs are from trade me and were really cheap. Like $15 a pair. As I said in the build thread, I'll probably ditch them because the heat from the 100w bulbs will likely ruin the reflector of the new lamps. I have been busy. The trip to Hawkes Boes will be in the dark and previously the headlights have been terrible. Pretty keen to see where I'm going.
  8. Oh yeah. Remember that time I had lost a sway bar link and I replaced it with a bolt? I got a new AC Delco kit from rockauto for $3.50 and put that in today.
  9. There are no headlight relays in these old boats. I checked and found a 2 volt drop at the lights and that was through the new switch. So to continue the upgrade I chucked in some relays. Factory spec. Relays wired up.
  10. I found both the inner headlights were blown. All the headlights were still sealed beam. The light output has always been pretty rubbish, so now is a good time for an upgrade. I managed to find these semi sealed lamps on trade me from seller '2dmanx' that are still the old style, domed lens. Most of the new stuff has a clear flat lens and the reflector does all the work. They probably work better, but just don't look right. Picked up some 100w bulbs, in yellow for lols. They put out a huge amount of heat, so I'll probably put normal bulbs in before they wreck the reflectors. Moved the working old sealed beam to the inner, high beam position. Edit: I just realised that last pic is of the old lamps.
  11. What a bargain. Shout out when you get those ignition bits if you need a lesson on setting up points, etc.
  12. Next step was to check the horn ring. Got the steering column apart. There's the problem. Wire to the horn button has been pulled off the horn ring. Closed up the gap an soldered the wire back on. We have a horn. Great success! Other jobs done while I was there were, get the cig lighter cleaned up so it works better, removed aftermarket wiring that goes no where, WD40 down the speedo cable to try to loose a squeak, reconnected the link to the gear position display, and move up all the wires that were dangling. Discuss Here
  13. Replaced all the dash bulbs, fit new headlight switch, wired in the back light on the aftermarket temp gauge too. All working mint now, including the dimmer function built into the switch. Next job while it was apart was to figure out why the horn didn't work from the button. Ever since I have had it there has been a switch under the dash and some extra wire running to the horns. First I had to find the horn relay. It was all the way over here. Held in by this bolt. Whipped it open for a quick look. Seemed all good. The relay wasn't plugged in. This must be the problem, plugged it in and still no horn. The key buzzer works now tho. What a noise. Ended up removing the wire for the key buzzer. Relay wiring for reference.
  14. Finally got the bugger out. And made this hole. I have a few little things to sort while it's all apart. Watch this space.
  15. Dash lights have not worked for ages. I bought a new headlight switch a while ago but have been putting off doing the job because it's a bloody mission to get the instrument panel out. I was stoked to find this page with some instructions and a clue to where the hidden dash pad bolts were. Because it needs to be removed. http://www.buickperformanceclub.com/cluster.htm Dash pad off Two hidden bolts at the top of instrument panel. Steering column needs to be dropped too.
  16. The new van has so much more room for activities.
  17. For Reference. To remove the instrument cluster, the dash pad must be removed first. http://www.buickperformanceclub.com/cluster.htm
  18. Bits and pieces of the collection or the whole shamozzle?
