Car battery problem

SOHC

Recommended Posts

I got a new car battery last winter sometime, it has been good but the other day I opened the bonnet and it has been leeking out the caps like it has been boiling, I tested the voltage with the car running switching the headlights on and off but it never went over 14.5 volts.

Would a battery do this is it is failing?

What brand is it? Most Lead Acid batteries are 'Maintainence Free' (sealed). Most of the batteries that still have fill caps are either big commercial batteries or cheap branded batteries.

If it's in the cheap brand batteries category it's very likely faulty.

Its an Endurant with the caps to top it up, i just did about 40kms round town and tested it agearn got 14.4 volts and the battery was gassing like hell, I will take it back tomorrow as it has a 3 year warranty and its been in the car for 12 months

Found the problem this is a Maintenance Free bratty, the caps in the top have been added by the factory for testing with a hydrometer, they never need topping up apparentley.

I topped it up, that's why the cell is leeking, what a dumb arse.
