Muncie
Iv'e got the head off at present and after a bit of research i've found some info from the late 70's on how to modify the head of the triumph 6 for more power racing etc written by David Vizzard. am keen on any "modern" tips and tricks i have the tools and time a steady hand needed but in saying that i dont want to waste time doing something thats been superseded by better methods. Anyone able to comment. so far i believe most of the work needs to be in the exhaust ports as the inlet supposedly flows well in my model of head without any need to enlarge it. comments welcome feel free to consult your grandfathers and get back to me. Rookie
David Vizard usually does pretty good work, so I doubt you would go wrong following his advice.
Muncie
Got head stripped now have decided to follow 90% of the Vizzard Bible for triumphs and do a basic tidy up on the inlet ports just a tidy up, and open the the exhaust up a moderate amount and port match the lot. i'm not building a full race engine i just want it to be a bit free revving when i do give it a bit of stick. am also going to port the cast exhaust manifold i got good gains in past from doing this removing around 500g of metal from various places. I still want to do a ghetto turbo setup on it at some stage.......
SOHC
The 1976-79 intake manifold flows better than the older ones and moves the carbs away from the exhaust , I have an exhaust manifold you can have if you want it, you could try acid etching the inside
Muncie
so got car back together today inlet ports were actually pretty good from factory with some nice machining around the entrances to the head the gasket only needed light trimming to get it all lining up nice, the exhaust however was utter shit all over the show and in places 2 or so mm of metal needed to be removed to get the ports in spec i ran a straight edge across using studs as reference and marked it all up then got to work with the die grinder till all ports were identical then opened up the exhaust manifold to match. by 2pm it was back on the car and running and after a quick lap around the block it is definately way more punchy low down now it actually has a vastly different exhaust note too. All in all pretty happy.

Fortunate enough to have the late 70's carbs in the biggest throat size fitted to the long manifold.
