Brennan
The aluminium centres are usually heat treated or can be forged, correct? the spun inner and outer rims are aluminium also? are they heat treated? cheers
kicker
I got a q, how many bolts minimum is needed for a 3 piece setup? I'm gonna be getting wider shells for my 3 pce welded rims and they have 12 (m6 I think) bolts around the centre, would they be ok or should I just get them welded again. Brennan
Didn't original ssr wheels have 6 bolts? So I think you are off to a good start with
Spencer
Surely the 6 bolt wheels are welded, anything not welded usually has a shit load more bolts.
Brock-Lee
6 bolts are all welded. Double the bolts and make sure they are all torqued up correctly and you wont have an issue. its 50000x easier/less hassle to drill some holes and add bolts than worry about getting weld procedures correct. Brennan
Sweet. Cheers guys. I'm fairly certain my old man gets one of his cast aluminium products heat treated. But I can not remember what it was. (Will have to ask on the weekend) And was wondering if the old 80's speed star and work etc wheels where heat treated after being cast? Brock-Lee
You can heat treat aluiminium and yes the wheels would have gone through a few heat treatment processes during their manufacture.
