Petrol tank repair/restoration?

Hi all, I had a couple of small pinholes repaired on a petrol fuel tank on my ute with solder by the local radiator shop about 10months ago, have been all good up until now i noticed one is leaking a small amount again. it also has a dent in the bottom i wouldnt mind pushed out but cant get to it thru the sender hole.

I have heard about the por15 repair kit which sounds good but would prefeer a proper fix if its possible. a second hand tank is not really an option as it took ages to find the one iv got and its the best iv come across by far.

Was wondering if there is a place anywhere in N.Z that specialises in fuel tank repair/restoration?

cheers

How long is it supposed to last tho? It sounds like an excellent product from what ive read - but does it slowly break down over the years and you find out its stuffed when it starts leaking again and uv got bits of the 'skin' all thru the fuel lines and carb - thats what im aprehensive about.

Mine is at western radiators getting done at the moment. He said same thing not going to line it just remove all the rust and the petrol and fumes will keep it all good and last for years and years. I will let you know how it goes and post some pics up. Should be back Wednesday

Mine was really bad apparently. I use to break down from blockages daily

Got my fuel tank back today. Was done last week but never had the time to pick it up. Costed $207 all up which I thought was reasonable as the inside was really rusty and a mess of flakes if you shook it. I dont have a before picture though.

Isnt lined but he claimed it was best that way and will last for a very long time just dont leave it sitting for ages with hardly any gas in it.

Couple of pictures.

Looks a million times better. Look like there was no metal left before. Hopefully can actually run it lower than half a tank and not be breaking down every day, sometimes even multiple times to clean the carb/filters.

As far as the leak goes, might be best to resolder it. I've done this with success after one car fell off a jack onto the gas tank (ugh).

I also used the POR15 kit approach on a Morrie tank years ago. Seemed to be successful as well.
