SOHC
What dose it mean when there is a "tap" noise like someone has hit something with a small hammer when I am sitting at the lights not moving? some times it dose it when going round a round a bout, if I hit the gas and take my foot off agearn there is no clunking and the diff feels good, Its my 81 Volvo 245 wagon, it has a slip diff and automatic, I put new oil it it about 20,000 miles ago, my falcon did the same thing,

SOHC
the only thing I can think of is being an auto an stopped at the lights there is a bit of load on the spool and it swaps the drive to the other axle witch makes the tap sound? Truenotch
Possibly just the torque converter stalling up and taking the lash between the crownwheel and pinion?

I am thinking along the lines of something like that, and its resonating off the drive shaft
