4G63 SOHC - turning over, not running

Chaos

Right, so we threw this 4G63 into the EX. Originally it wouldn't even crank, but that was due to a bad ground.

We have fuel and spark. It turns over and begins firing if throttle is held down and the dizzy is rotated hard to the left. Semi-runs if the starter is held on, but as soon as the key is let go it dies.

We're thinking the timing could be out on the belt, would this be about right? We've taken the cap off the dizzy and checked that's all in line, etc.

Thoughts? Thanks in advance.

...and the winner is...Caboon!

Yep, issue was a combination of problems, coil wiring being one of them.

1st issue was that the distributor was one tooth out (i checked this three times)

2nd issue was that we had only connected one of the wires to the coil thinking that we didnt need to use the wire that went to the ballast resistor. After I got the timing right and connected both wires to the coil it burst into life.

So shes a runner now. Yet to clean up a few things and then skid time!
