hmmmnz
just curious really, could they be made out of stainless, or is the aluminium used for its heat tranferring properties, and stainless would get too hot??
DJZ
Yes, they could. Is your motor crossflow? If it is you shouldn't have any trouble, a staino one will probably weigh less than a cast aluminium one.
nick_m
Are you talking a manifold with a full plenum? Dont see why not, KPR Made one for his 4age turbo im pretty sure. He also made ITB ones too It will be heavier and may get a bit hotter after long sessions of hard driving, but probably unlikely itll get hot enough to cause any problems (unless you touch it). The worse thing is the stainless wont absorb the vibrations as well as aluminium so it might sing a bit
nick_m
Agree with DJZ it would probably still be lighter than a cast aluminium one. Looks like KPR makes his out of 1.6/2mm. Hopefully he'll chime in and answer
hmmmnz
nah my motor isn't a cross flow motor, as it stands the intake is bolted to the exhaust anyway so the intake gets bloody hot, burn the skin off your fingers hot i have a set of extractors to fit, but was curious about going the triple carb route, probably cv side drafts, i have a few sets kicking about from bikes
tortron
used to be they were all cast iron. Heat transfer isnt too much of an issue, just put an insulating spacer between the carb and manifold
kpr
stainless is fine. but as nick says. it can vibrate, but ive only had that issue on fairly long runner or big manifolds, the one on my trueno suffers from harmonic vibrations. bracing it has mostly fixed it. have always made mine from stainless, as didnt have anything to weld ali with carb manifold you shouldn't have any issues. never had any with the quad throttle ones. stainless should be better heat transfer wise, should reflect the heat more than ali, plus put less heat back into your inlet air.
