187inc
Whats the easiest way to remove the drivers and passengers door pins in a Mk2? I've read the top one needs pushed down and the bottom one needs pushed up, but the bottom one is so hard to access because theres virtually no room.. would prefer to not have to remove the whole door & hinges to get at it but that's looking like my only option, any suggestions? Gaz
Roll pin remover + heaps of CRC will get them. I think Power built makes one. Gaz
Horse25
DPNS and i broke his pin removal tool, so i just cut up a hacksaw blade and spent a few hours on each door cutting through the pins, other option is to cut the hinge off or depending on the year the hinges can be unbolted from the inside? petemk1
get crc on them for a couple of days before you do it. I just hit mine out with a thin punch or a bolt that is slightly smaller than the hinge hole. you won't be able to hit the top pin very far with a punch as the door gets in the way, i use a long bolt to sit on the pin rest the end of a big screwdriver flat on top of the bolt and hit shaft of the screwdiver to knock the pin down. 187inc
Yeah the hinges can be unbolted from the inside, but i would prefer to only do that as a last resort. I was thinking of using a bolt and whacking them out, but the bottom one comes out upwards and theres like 2cm of space underneath so the bolt wont fit let alone something to wack it with
Valiant
A roll pin remover works mean. It's hard to explain how one looks but I,ll try. A solid steel bar about 15mm by 15mm by 300mm with a notch in the end. Put a small long cap screw through the roll pin, make sure the head of the cap screw is larger than the id of the roll pin but smaller than the id of the hinge. Put a nut on the the cap screw and sit it into the notch in the bar. Hammer the bar so it draws the roll pin out.
Gaz
^^^ the roll pin remover kit usually comes with a number of the "cap screws" and one will suit. Just make sure ya hitting it square as I bent mine. Gaz
