Machining Disc Brakes

escorted

Recommended Posts

Hi,

My daily needs new disc pads on the front. But unfortunatly the front right disc has been scored. Is it ok to clock it up in the lathe and take a lick of each side? Will this effect anything and will i need to "match machine" i.e machine the other side to the side thickness.

Any help would be much appreciated

that should be sweet provided your not taking too much off, if you can get away with 0.5mm or less you should be right.

when the "mobile disc machining" dudes set up and machine disc's they dont really get to carried away with how much they take off side to side, they measure total width to make sure they haven't gone bellow the minimum thickness, apart from that, they just cut until the grooves are gone.

sheepers.

It will be interesting to see how it goes back on the car. Hopefully perfectly.

I am a fan of machining discs on the hub to ensure they are machined true to the actual rotating axis. Machining on the hub is of course an operation that requires specialist gear.

You must have a big lathe :D
