Raizer
I can't remember much of the color coding for the Escort so I can't really help, but I can say the 2 brown wires joined together are an earth and are bolted to a small hole in front of the strut top. And there should be a heavier gauge wire that is the power supply for basically everything in the car which should come out of the loom up by the battery, mine had been cut and extended/replaced a few times but i think it may have been a red wire. The solenoid is easy to figure out as long as you have got power at the ignition, just use a test light and find which wire goes live when the key is turned to start. Relaying pretty much everything is a very good idea if you can be fucked doing it! and when i put a test light on the other points on the solinoid thers no light? There shouldn't be, 1 spade terminal is an output for the ballast on the coil, the other engages the solenoid when it gets power.
sholdowa
I've got a mk.1 manual if that helps... can bring it in tomorrow? Black/yellow: starter solenoid -> coil ( 12 volt override for starting ) thin red: starter solenoid -> regulator Black/Red: Stop light switch -> fuse box or connector -> rh indicator Brown: Look to be inside - choice of... Wipers Internal light Cigar lighter Courtesy switches -> internal light Distributor connects to coil only ( well, and earth ). Don't think the horn's red. LAN_KILLA
is it running lucas electics? and is it +ve or -ve earth? If so then normally a brown wire is one that has constant +12V (So is connected to the solenoid on the same post as the battery terminal) Those brown ones youve earthed are probably your headlights or some other accessory that isnt key controlled
