Ke36
time has come for me to start worrying about suspension in my lex ancer now ive lowered plenty of cars before and know what i want from the lancer etc but i need to get a bit of tech advice as for once i not only want a car that is nice and low but i want it to handle better and be a pleasure to drive doing the obvious getting full nolatahanes throughout and have sourced a larger sigma front sway bar to put in the info im interested in is spring rates and shocks, up untill now ive benn a compressed springs and brand new cheapy shocks man will be getting 4 custom springs all round, only way ill get it as low as i want plus gives me decent scope to help put my power to the ground so what sorta spring rates shold i be asking for etc?front and rear dfferent or what? will be mainly street car, but will definately see track and strip work will be on 17s also what brand/style of shocks etc? im not interested in spending thousands but happy to pay a decent price for something better than munroes also would i benefit from getting a custom strut brace? cute wee gem
Strut brace will help keep it rigid and stop it flexing so much. Front spring rates will be higher than rear, not sure what spring rates you'd need though If you're getting customs made they'll probably be able to help more though, they're pretty onto it. mikuni
Where are you man? I think snells springs are pretty sorted with custom stuff and they keep all their infomation. Chances are they have done an EX before.
Ogre
Get sigma front struts, put some KYB gas exal shocks in there, and fit with 320 e30 BMW king springs with 2 1/2 coils cut off.For the rear fit with KYB gas exal 1st gen mirage shocks and RX3 front king springs with the spring padding removed. One thing that maybe good to change tho is softer rear springs to help get power down if you still have a single spinner. If you have a locky or LSD then it would be fine My old EX handled awsome with that setup. Mr dori
Go coilover in the front, with around 6kg front 4 kg rear, go to a suspension place and ask em to find insets or shocks from a hevier car
Ogre
sigma strsuts have bigger tubes (from what ive been told), what ya really want is GSR ones for the front or starion ones. They have bigger vented brakes and more camber and have WAY big shock tubes. can buy starion coilovers from ozz, they pretty cheap.Getting a good set of fully adjustable coilovers for the front was gonna cost me bout $2000.I went with modding GSR struts with new shocks and resetting spring seats and smaller springs and cost me bout $700 for the front not including springs or fitting the struts in.Well worth the $$$ tho. http://www.lancerregister.com/forumdisp ... forumid=31, alot of ex2000 racers in there. Ke36
yea coilovers would be awesome unfortunately they are way over my budget at the moment had budgeted max of 2gs for my whole suspension setup including shocks springs and bushes coilovers and mean brake upgrade can come later once car is on road and i can sort them out slowly
Ke36
sweet looks like im picking up a set of starion front struts form a fellow forum member apparently i have to change front arms to sigma/starion as well and the knuckles, not a problem as he has the knuckles and i can get a set of lower arms am i going to end up with a bit of extra negative camber?not a bad thing at all just curious also what are shocks like to get for the starion front stuts?the guys on austarion seem to have trouble finding replacements anyone here had to get any? and what sorta pads should i be getting? Ogre
can get metal king pads for them and new discs are easy to get. Dont see why it would be hard to get shocks for them, pretty easy to adapt stuff to fit.
Ke36
sweet new discs is a good idea was thinking bout that would have to get the old ones machined anyways and metal king pads are the go you reckon? will just ring up the suspension place about shocks and see what range they have then ask you fellas how do i go about getting them shortened etc and not hitting bumpstops not sure what the dealio is with front shocks/struts only used to rear gas units and external bumpstops

Ogre
just take to a suspention specialist if ya gonna have to shorten stuff. Will be cheaper than getting off the shelf stuff that fits then having to get that shortened. Can also cut the bumpstop in half and still fine. Ke36
ok so you can just cut bumpstops in struts aswell? i just "trimmed my old ones in the rear of my hatch to get it sitting where i wanted, but never taken a strut apart so wouldnt know how they work aye
Glancn
For brake pads Race Brakes will fit Mintex to your old pads backing plates, I'm sure there are a few other places who do it too. Callum Amen to that. Just send them your backing plates. If you can't do that because its your daily then give them the model of your car and they will pull a pair of standard pads for your brakes off their shelf, burn them off and use the backing plates and have the mintex material put on them. Mintex 1144, 1155, 1166 are all good products. Recommend getting some decent brake fluid too
Ke36
yeap brake system will be getting full flush and new decent fluid through out how much are the mintex likely to set me back?

Ke36
ok so after talking to isnowi his lancer had positive camber after fitting starion struts caboon was thinking id end up with like neg 4 degrees so this is interesting?? anyone else got any ideas?thoughts done the swap are starion struts the same as gsr lancer ones or is it just the brakes/rotors that are? new discs arent avalible for them from repco either unless u wanna get dbas which are $250 each retail and a 3 month wait lol s would i be fine to media blast the rotors then get them machined? Ogre
the camber was what all the guys on the lancerregister told me a few years ago when i was building up my old EX.Ive never actually fitted starion struts tho so i cant say 100%.I used GSR EX lancer ones and they give 3 degrees of neg camber (actually measured it etc) so maybe thats a better way to go if ya can find them.Bolt in etc and ya dont have t change the ball joint knuckle or anything.
