peteretep
even if it may technically need a cert for power increase reasons or whatever, they did come out with 1600's and no one would ever question it being there

W8NSEE
i personally wouldnt worry about a cert as retep says, they cam out with 1600 so no will know the difference or care The 1600 should just be a bolt in job, should fit on all the old 1500 stuff, correct me if im wrong tho
mk2 gt
when you say rebuild what do you mean by that how much of the motor should a rebuild?
RT
i just spoke to a guy about using a v6 capri carby and he said it would work but anything below 3k of revs it would be gutless untill you get right up the revs then you will get power. he said the better option to do would be to use a 2L cortina carby if i am not going to heavily mod the engine which i wont at this stage I've run a V6 carb on a worked 1600 and it was awesome. pulled all the way through the rev range. Ditch the 1500 before you end up spending money on it..
Gaz
when you say rebuild what do you mean by that how much of the motor should a rebuild? Depends what it needs when you pull head off. Could just be rings and bearings (likely) Or if its worn in the bore then itll also need a bore, crank grind and pistons. While doing that its a good idea to do things like water pump and even oil. New seals in engine and head should also be fitted.

Gaz
Run spacer under manifold? Or custom manifold
escort mk1
I rebuilt my 1300 escort engine for under a grand. I striped the engine got the head and block acid bathed, camshaft ground and pollished, the crankshaft polished, bored 40 thou, new pistons, bearings, full gasket set, 32/36 webber and manifold, ramflow air filter, new pipes, painted. Did all the labour my self and sent it away for the harder stuff. Now im looking at getting some extractors and a exhaust. I suggest you just do this and slowly add everything else. - i5oogt -
if it is a geniune 1500gt cortina it should go pretty well. mine has a stage2 cam, standard 28/36 carby factory flows slightly modified exhaust and will go 100mph no problems at all. a nice original gt is worth about 6-12k for a really mint original one so thats also something to consider, other things if you are going to make it a daily electronic ignition, put an oil filler breather and a ramflow on the carby, 1500's dont breath very well but if you do little things like that it all helps. dont do anything drastic like change the engine unless its stuffed got any pics of this beast and where are you located, i have a couple of mk2 gt's if you have any questions....
