Bistro
i had a little search but it didnt give me what i was looking for. that is, i know many people restud them to 4 stud, but im totally at a loss as i heard the smallest roughly able to go whilst still using one of the original studs is 114.3. is this true, and is there anyway to get around this to run a 4x108 pattern. cheers fullas. Gaz
Give me the hilux stud pattern and I can draw it up in Cad in a few seconds then map some new studs on there to see if 4x108 fits. Should do. Might even be able to do it with 4 new holes.
crazy_rich
eh, just push out the old studs, weld up the holes, machine back the welds, chuck it in a mill clock up central to the spigot then drill 4 brand spankin new ones, guess thats common sense though, just depends if theres room on the back of the hub flange for the studs being closer to the axle without fouling on the radius. My mate had his hilux diff converted to honda stud pattern, (whatever that is) i doubt ford is smaller.
Burntrubber
I hope it works because I have one I want to re-drill to 4x100 very soon like this week or next week.
Gaz
honda is 4x100. Whats the hilux pattern. I will draw it on cad and do a diagram of the differant studs you can fit where etc.

Gaz
ok give me five. Really need the centre diameter also but meh.
Gaz
Couldnt fit 4x108 onto the 5x114.3 stud pattern the way I drew it. Was using 20mm dia studs. Is that about right? If so then would need to have at least one stud in the old hole... or have holes filled.
crazy_rich
imo i'd fill them regardless of whether or not its possible to drill the holes without having it, it'll just look like an afterthought otherwise, and be stronger, so long as some kind of attempt to normalise/ stress relieve the hub takes place. Burntrubber
I'm going to weld all the holes up ect. The center is 67mm I think I measured that last week so I could be wrong.

Gaz
^ thats expensive. Ive decided not to go Hilux deiff now. They are way too heavy. Im going to buy an escort LSD for round $1200 and get my axles heat treated.
Gaz
Have ou thought of doing that? Its way easier and half the weight. Plus rotas dont dont have much torque which is what really blows diffs.
Bistro
yea that is expensive. but the guy does restudding and shortening for $800, you supply the diff. just gotta hunt pick a part, or a wrecked lux or soemthing. im also keen on a 2L-T. yea boi diesel boso ute.... Bistro
im not really phased about wieght. and how strong will heat treated axles be?
Gaz
haha pick apart dont have any diffs in any of the toyota vans no more. Dunno if the vans came LSD anywho. Heat treated axles should be sweet as. But blowing axles isnt too bad. Better than blowing the diff. And at least for $1200 you get a brand spanking new diff. Gaz
im not really phased about wieght. and how strong will heat treated axles be? Weight is the name of the game man. Making a car lighter has more benifit than increasing the power.
Bistro
the vans arnt LSD. but how heavy is a hilux over an escort diff? i think overall it will be cheaper, and have no hassles at all in breaking axles or smashing the diff.
