Snoozin
DRLA's are a downdraft twin-choke carb... similar to an IDF Weber.
davidian
anyone know what actual webber/del abreviations mean? cheer
Snoozin
Abbreviations (acronyms?) to my knowledge don't actually stand for anything.... here's a rough guide to Webers though though DGV, DGAV, DGEV, DFV, DFAV, DMSA, ADF, DMTR, DIR 2 barrel downdraft, progressive ICH, ICT 1 barrel downdraft DGES, DCNF, IDF 2 barrel downdraft, synchronous IDA 2 or 3 barrel downdraft, synchronous DCOE 2 barrel sidedraft, synchronous I'd imagine you knwo the difference between progressive/synchronous? Gaz
Webbers i think would have a slightly larger industry support. either way doesnt matter much. id go webber.
davidian
tru im not working with a lot of money tho at the moment... Weber 40mm pair is $988.00 and Dellorto 40mm pair recon is $800.00. both come jetted to suit your engine.
TygerTung
Go for dellorto's, they're a newer design.
CaMpylobacter
go weber, they're generally recognised as being more user friendly than dellortos. speak with your mech to see what they reckon. tisnt mnuch dearer really to hit webers, more wank factor if nothing else
davidian
my mech? a few people now have said they pref. Dels but not one person so far has said specifically why and how... only the old: weber, they're generally recognised as being more user friendly than dellortos but even then, why? do they just fall outta tune more often (mix etc)? Gaz
Are these carbs for a 1600? If for a 2l then I would greatly advise 45s or 48s
davidian
nah.. worked 1600.. more like 1700 or some shit
Snoozin
I've had both Webers and Dellortos on the Alfa, both seemed to hold their tune for at least 6 months, at which point I'd adjust the mixture and re-balance them for winter/summer temps. Webers still have parts manufactured for them, whereas (with DRLA's at least) Dellorto's I have heard no longer manufacture parts. Could be hearsay though, with the amount of "recond" Dellortos around it's possible it's just BS.
