Toucan
Sounds like it could be a wheel bearing, what kind of car is it? They are fairly cheap to replace but some cars are easier to replace than others

RT
could be the hole in the xmember where the control arm bolts in is slogged out. This is a real bitch when this happens..
Toucan
Well when the bearing rolls around with the wheel then its going to be up and down aswel as side to side isnt it Front or rear? Front is easy on a escort, $30 for a bearing then all you need is a big socket, a screwdriver, a hammer and a torque wrench. Rear requires a press and the bearing is more expensive from memory

mk2_escort
i dont think its the wheel bearings man. that exact same problem happend 2 mine. itl probly the tierod ends. ul need 2 undo the tierods, take out the rack etc, undo the sleeve that goes over it, its good 2 put some new oil in the aswell. then do up the sleeve so its firm but not 2 firm otherwise it will make the movement in the ball joint very tight. if its been like that 4 a while like mine had bcoz the previous owner didnt know better, the ball joint might be out of shape so if thats the case ul have 2 get hold of another tierod arm. but this should help, like i said thats exactly wot hapnd 2 mine and it fixd it strraight away. esky boi
Yea same happened to mine aswell.. when you shake the wheel horizontally and it wobbles, then it will most likely be the tie rods. If you shake it vertically and it still feels loose then the bearings will be stuffed..
