Gaz
Anyone used escort calipers on cortinas?
Gaz
mk2 cortinas I mean. anyone used escort brakes on mk2 cortina struts. The mk1 shit little brakes of an escort look very similar to the cortina mk2 brakes. The escort sport etc brakes look to also work but the pedal pressure will change. Should be more movement in the pedal before it starts to work(freeplay). I want to know how much play and if you still got a wof with it like that. SYKOV6
i wouldnt waste ya time bro, prolly the same size or smaller than mk2 cort. i had mk3 cort discs and calipers on my mk2 slightly bigger than mk2 but heaps thicker and way better calipers bolt straight on too just put mk3 disc onto mk2 hub calipers bolt on but need to have pipes changed as mk2 is imperial thread and mk3 is metric. gave my whole set up to ivan[davidian] then went to toyota vented rotors and volvo 4spots stopped wickedly then even with no booster
Gaz
The escort calipers pad area is alot bigger (almost twice the size) than cortina. The escort piston diameter is also bigger. Would just be easy way to improve brakes.
SYKOV6
r the esky calipers u refer to 2 litre esky ones? if so they are the same as mk3/4/5 corty ones. normal mk2 esky ones are smaller
Gaz
Mk2 escort ones are the same as mk3 corty ones. Well the ones I have look to be the same and I have 3 sets. Not likely to have three sets of rs2000 ones. Could possably be MK2 sport calipers.
SYKOV6
they prolly are all the same all are basically from the same era mk3 calipers bigger than mk2 cort though. check the thickness of esky disc . mk3 cort discs are about 5mm thicker than mk2 cort and esky too i think
Gaz
yeah thats why i wasnt going to use the mk3 cort ones on the mk2 discs. Was wondering if the mk2 escort ones however would be better for pedal presure if they are slightly diff disc width. Really need to know someone who has tried it aye. The mk3 calipers and disks would have slightly changed offset id think. Was it that much better braking?
SYKOV6
seemed to go abit longer b4 fading in extreme conditions i was also using a sierra master cyl and no booster so pedal feel was nil just hard but seemed to stop well
Gaz
I see. Im not to worried bout fade. Just that the cort is my girls car and i want the brakes to be a bit better if she needs them. Plus it pulls hard to the right so might as well rebuild better calipers if i am rebuilding some.

L0WMK2
heard you could use austin princess calipers as a replacement bolt straight on? just got to do some work with brake lines

Gaz
heard you could use austin princess calipers as a replacement bolt straight on? just got to do some work with brake lines Not quite bolt on. I have austin 4pots on my escort. Have to make a spacer also.
L0WMK2
oh i got told they bolt on just got to adjust brake lines to allow for two lines? is it an easy upgrade to put spacers in?
CaMpylobacter
I'm sure princess calipers bolt straight on, just that if you don't use spacer the pads overlap over the edge of the disc a little.... this being on mk2 escort brakes... Gaz
Yeah dont need the spacer for standard mk2 discs. Just need to make the brake line goto one instead of two.. Would be ok then. pads are bout 15%-20% bigger than escort and piston volumn is almost exactly same as escort. So with similar pads (similar coefficient of friction) to what are in an escort you would get %15-%20 better brakes. If i was going to do it id use slightly bigger capri vented discs to make it worth while anyway. Spacers for AP calipers and these discs are avaliable from burton. I just ordered some spacers to use with my huge discs which are same width as capri.
Gaz
If you combine the ap calipers with some greenstuff pads (or similar co efficiant of friction pads) then brakes should be about 50% better. Use the two above plus 300mm discs and you should have %100 better brakes up front. Or if you wanted to get rid of your brake servo you could do the following. Brake servo is bout %70 300mm discs + AP calipers + Greenstuff pads - servo = about 20% better than how they are now.
SYKOV6
i used ma 61 celica/supra vented rotors and volvo 4 spots in the end and even with no booster it stopped on a dime ya have to stand on em though toyota rotors require an adapter plate and bolts onto mk2 cort hub the adapters cost me $30 each to be made and the volvo 4 spots require a little slotting of the holes to bolt straight up[about 5 mins with rat tail file] the offset is perfect no pissing around with spacers etc. the whole conversion cost less than $400 buying all parts and machining the adapter that also included new kits for the calipers. hey methodz, the servo doesnt make your brakes any better just easier to apply. boosted and non boosted brakes stop exactly the same the boosted one has a softer and easier to push pedal. Gaz
But boosted it makes all the differance when ya dont have to stomp on them. I kinda see it as a big increase in braking.
