How do i work out the diff ratio?

Hey just after a bit of help, need to work out the ratio of a esky diff have heard you have to count the number of teath on the gear wheel is that right?

Or if its still in the car.

Hold one drum still. Turn the other drum exactly 10 times. Count the number of times the diff flange turns....(It will be something like 19.4 times) Double this number and divide by ten. Likely ratios are 3.54, 3.77, 3.89, 4.11 (If it's a standard Escort diff, then you can expect it to be 3.89 or 4.11)

count the teeth on the crown wheel (biggest gear) and the pinion (gear that drives the crown wheel...

then divide the crown wheel by the pinion....

for example.... 33 teeth on crown, 8 on pinion

33/8 = 4.125 = 4.125:1 ratio....
